The Devil Who Claimed Me

Chapter 96: I need your help

Chapter 96: I need your help

Later that day...

Mila had just stepped into the mansion when Serene’s mocking voice came from the side.

"Well, well—look who has come. Our busy doctor."

Mila paused and turned toward her. Ever since returning from the hospital, she had expected this confrontation. Her fingers twitched at her sides, the urge to slap her rising. But she restrained herself.

"How many patients did you treat today?" Serene stepped closer. "Were you busy all day? Or did you find some time to enjoy yourself?"

Mila faked a smile. "No, there weren’t many patients. Which is good. But there is more to running a clinic than just treating people. Upgrading equipment, managing supplies, arranging funds—There is a lot to do. You wouldn’t understand."

There was a sharp edge in her tone.

"You might think we only deal with a handful of cases," Mila continued calmly. "But even if I explain, it’ll go over your head."

Mila intended to humiliate her. The insult landed cleanly.

Serene’s smile was long gone. Rage took the shape of an inferno within her.

"It’s a clever excuse to hide your affair with Remy," she snapped. "You sleep with Dominic, yet you flirt with another man. How shameless can you be?"

Mila’s hand almost lifted, but she stopped herself. Instead, she smiled coldly.

"You see everything through a dirty lens," she said evenly. "To you, a man and a woman can only have one kind of relationship. That says more about what you think."

Serene’s face turned red in anger. She parted her lips to snap back, but Mila spoke again.

"I’m not like you," Mila added. "In my profession, I work with many male colleagues. Remy is one of them. We are friends. Nothing more."

"Friends?" Serene scoffed. "Don’t lie. I can see right through you. You know he has feelings for you. It’s so obvious. The way he looks at you, worries about you, and rushes into your room to check on you without caring about anything—everything shows how much he likes you. And you are using him."

Mila’s heart skipped. She had sensed something off about Remy’s actions.

The way he hugged her, held her hands, and insisted she leave this place with him—all the scenes flashed through her mind.

She had felt it was unusual. Yet she had ignored the warning signs, believing he was only worried about her as a friend.

Now, everything was clear to her.

It wasn’t just a concern. He had feelings for her.

Mila’s chest twisted. She had treated him as a friend. She had not said or done anything that would send him the wrong message. Besides, Remy had always known she was Dominic’s woman.

How could he develop feelings for her?

"You know he has a soft corner for you in his heart," Serene continued. "And that’s why you deliberately got close to him to use him in your favor."

She crossed her arms across her chest and asked, "Are you planning to run away with him?"

Mila was about to respond when a cold, commanding voice cut through the tension.

"What is going on here?"

Both women turned to him.

Dominic’s expression was terrifying.

Serene’s eyes lit up. She thought it was her chance to expose Mila. She stepped forward.

"Dominic, I have something to tell you," she said urgently.

He didn’t even glance at her. He walked straight to Mila, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her away without a word.

Serene turned sharply and watched them walking up the stairs.

"He didn’t even listen to me," she muttered.

Anger surged, but then she noticed the tension in Dominic’s posture. A slow, satisfied smile formed on her lips.

"So what if he ignored me? He is still angry with her. That’s enough."

The tension in her posture eased. "Their relationship is already on the verge of collapsing. Soon, he will destroy her and her so-called doctor friend."

Inside Dominic’s room...

As soon as the door closed behind them, Dominic hissed, "What were you doing with Serene? Why were you talking to her? Have you forgotten what she did to you?"

"I haven’t forgotten anything," Mila shot back, irritation flaring. "I just came in. She blocked my way and started provoking me. I wasn’t going to stand there and take it."

She turned to leave, but barely took two steps before he caught her arm and pulled her back. The next moment, his strong arms were around her.

"I was worried," he whispered. "I thought she might hurt you."

Mila’s expression softened. "I won’t let that happen. Not again."

She turned to him. "You must be tired. Go freshen up. I’ll bring you something to eat."

She moved to leave, but he stopped her again.

"Wait... I need to talk to you."

Something in his tone made her pause.

"What’s wrong?" she asked, tension creeping in.

Dominic held her gaze but hesitated to say the words. He had just heard from the guard about how close they had grown. He was jealous and afraid she would leave him. But at the same time, he was worried she would be furious if he mentioned it.

Mila grew restless under his steady gaze. She could see his hesitation.

Her thoughts immediately went to the previous night—to the woman, the threat. She was scared something might have happened to her friend, and that Dominic knew about it.

"Is Lara okay?" she asked urgently. "Tell me she is fine."

"She is safe," he replied. "Don’t worry about her. Marco and his people can’t harm her again.

Mila let out a small sigh of relief.

Dominic shrugged off the insecurity for now. He would deal with Remy later. Right now, he had an important thing to discuss with her.

"I need your help."

His solemn tone stiffened her in her place. "With what?"

"You need to find that woman again."

"Now?" she asked, startled.

He nodded. "Tell her we are working on a secret mission."

"A secret mission?" A chill ran down her spine. "What kind of mission? Are you going too?"

"Of course," he said calmly. "I’m leading it."

Fear instantly filled her eyes.

"Why do you have to go?" she asked, her voice trembling. "You have so many people. Let them handle it."

Seeing her worry, something softened in his gaze. He stepped closer, gently rubbing her arms.

"Mila... I’m the boss. I have to lead this."

"But it’s dangerous," she whispered, her voice thickening with emotion. "I’m scared."

He pulled her into his arms. "Don’t be. I can take care of myself. And I won’t be alone. This mission is to destroy Marco. He will be defeated."

He lifted her chin, making her look at him. "But I need you."

Mila swallowed the lump in her throat. She knew she couldn’t stop him. And deep down, she didn’t want to. This was the war he had been preparing for.

If she could help, she would.

"Alright, I’ll do it. But the guard. He won’t let me move freely."

A sly smile touched Dominic’s lips. "Don’t worry about that. I already have a plan. The woman will come to you on her own."

Mila tilted her head slightly, confused. Just as she was trying to understand what he was up to, the door knocked.

Dominic opened the door.

"Boss." The guard nodded at him. "There is an emergency in the clinic. Doctor Remy asked for Miss Mila."

Mila stepped forward, frowning slightly. "What is this?"

"Go and find out," Dominic urged.
