The Devil Who Claimed Me

Chapter 95: You are not safe here.

Chapter 95: You are not safe here.

As Remy walked down the hallway, he noticed Dominic striding out of his room, a phone pressed to his ear.

Dominic’s posture was rigid, every step sharp and laced with urgency. He was saying something in a low voice. It seemed as if he were discussing something serious.

Remy slowed to a halt, watching him leave the mansion. His heart raced. He thought Dominic was still furious with Mila for going out last night.

His gaze drifted toward the closed door of Dominic’s room. An urge to barge in, to see if she was alright, surged within him. His fingers tightened around the bag, his restlessness growing.

’Should I go and check on her?’ he thought.

But reason stopped him immediately.

’Don’t do it. This will only make Dominic even more furious.’

Still, his feet almost moved on their own.

The guard strode over before he could take two steps. "Doctor Remy... You are here."

It was Mila’s bodyguard.

Remy straightened at once. ’If he senses I am heading to see Mila, he will instantly inform Dominic. No. I can’t let him know."

He squared his shoulders, masking his thoughts. "Madam Serene called me. I came to check on her."

The guard’s eyes swept over him. "Are you leaving now?"

"Yes."

Remy tightened his grip on his bag and walked away with a heavy heart.

Behind him, the guard let out a cold snort. "Eyeing the boss’s woman? You are courting death, doctor."

A few moments later, the door opened.

Mila stepped out.

The guard immediately moved toward her. "Are you going out, Miss?"

"Yes," she replied. "I’m going to the clinic."

The guard’s expression pinched. "Clinic? Why go there?"

Mila felt a bit irritated when she was questioned. "I work there. Did you forget?"

Without wasting another second, she strode away.

"Shit..." The guard muttered and went after her.

At the clinic...

The moment Remy saw Mila step inside, he shot to his feet, surprise written all over his face. For a moment, he simply stared, unable to believe she was standing right in front of him.

Mila grinned as she stepped forward. "Why are you looking at me as if you have seen a ghost?"

"Mila?" He crossed the distance in a few quick steps, his hands landing on her shoulders.

Emotion surged through him, clouding his thoughts. Before he could stop himself, he pulled her into a tight embrace.

Mila’s smile froze, her body tensing.

The guard outside saw the scene. His eyes widened at first, then an icy glint crossed them.

’This bastard,’ he muttered to himself. ’He won’t learn anything. I have to inform the boss.’

He quietly lifted his phone and snapped a photo.

Unaware of being watched, Remy finally pulled back. His hands lingered on her shoulders as his gaze swept over her, checking if there was any sign of injuries.

"Are you okay?" he asked urgently. "Did Dominic hurt you?"

"No..." Mila replied, stepping back. "He didn’t. He was angry. But after I explained, he calmed down."

Remy breathed a sigh of relief. "That’s good. I thought he punished you. I couldn’t sleep the whole night."

He studied her face, his voice lowering. "I kept thinking... what if something happened to you?"

"Remy..."

He spoke again before Mila could finish her sentence. "Didn’t you always want to leave? I can help you."

He grabbed her hands. "Let’s get out of this place and have a peaceful life somewhere away."

Mila’s expression froze. Unease crept into her chest. She twisted her hands out of his grasp.

His behavior felt off.

It was true that she had wanted to leave at first and had tried. But now she realized she couldn’t. She could never run away from Dominic.

Besides, her desperation for freedom had put her friend into danger.

Mila wouldn’t make such a mistake again.

"I know I wanted to leave before," she said carefully. "But things are different now. I nearly died."

Remy fell silent. He had seen the guards almost kill the woman who had helped Mila get out of the hospital.

She continued, her tone firm, "If Dominic hadn’t come that day, I wouldn’t be standing here."

Her gaze steadied. "I realized something. I’m safer here than anywhere else, with him. So...No...I am not going anywhere."

Remy thought she was scared. Perhaps Dominic had threatened her.

"How can you say that?" he pressed. "You’ve seen how people treat you here. Valentina... Serene... they won’t stop targeting you."

He stepped closer. "Serene already tried to hurt you once. What if she tries again? You are not safe here either. I can protect you. Please... come with me."

He reached for her hands again.

He held her hands again, desperation evident in his eyes.

Mila felt a chill at his touch. She pushed his hands away gently.

"You are worrying too much," she said. "I’m under Dominic’s protection. No one can harm me here."

"But Serene is..."

"Remy, please..." Mila interrupted him, not allowing him to complete his sentence. "Stop saying all this. You know, things don’t go the way we think. I already accepted it. I made mistakes before. And I faced the consequences. Not anymore. I won’t make the same mistakes again, not if it puts others in danger."

Remy stared at her, helpless. He was ready to fight the world for her. But she was refusing to walk with him.

His heart ached.

"Are you really okay with this?" he asked quietly. "With the way he controls everything? With his obsession?"

Mila didn’t reply instantly. Her mind drifted back to fear, anger, and the suffocating control she once hated. But she also remembered the way he protected her, worried about her, and held her as she mattered.

Dominic was dangerous, ruthless, and feared by everyone. He was terrifying.

Mila had to agree that she was scared of him. But she also felt safe around him.

His possessiveness and dominance used to suffocate her. But beneath that darkness, there was softness in him.

And she had seen it.

He was not a heartless devil. He was so human. Just like the others, he was also scared of losing his loved ones. He worried for his people and protected them.

She could see his care for her. And it changed her heart for him. She slowly realized she had fallen in love with him. And leaving him seemed difficult now.

"I know what he is," Mila said softly. "And I know what this world is."

She met his eyes.

"I wanted to run away before. I thought I didn’t belong here. I desperately wanted my life back. But I forgot one thing: everything had changed ever since that night."

She let out a soft sigh. "I finally realized something. I can’t go back to my old life. Not anymore. It would only put me—and the people I care about—in danger."

She paused for a moment. "I’ve accepted this life. I’ve accepted Dominic the way he is. And I am not leaving him."

The finality in her voice left no room for argument.

Remy’s shoulders fell slightly. He understood that he had already lost before he even had a chance to fight.

He nodded slowly, mustering a smile. "I understand. If this is what you want, I’ll respect it. But be careful. Not everyone here wants you safe."

Mila gave a small nod. "I know. Thank you."
