Chapter 144: Meteorite!
Chapter 144: Meteorite!
"Please forgive me!" he blurted out suddenly. "I didn’t mean to sleep with his wife! She seduced me first!"
For a moment—
Silence fell.
The red-robed figures exchanged glances.
"...Is this really the person?" one of them muttered. "Are you sure the leader didn’t make a mistake?"
"Shut up," another snapped immediately. "You’re new. You don’t understand the leader’s abilities."
His tone was firm.
"The leader has never been wrong."
He stepped forward slightly.
"Search him."
The others moved instantly.
Their speed was unnatural—far beyond ordinary people.
Before Butcher Deng could react, he was forced to the ground.
"Ah—! Easy! Easy!" he cried out. "My waist—my waist! Don’t touch there! That’s my—Mmh~ Oh~"
The man searching him paused for a moment, his expression turning visibly disgusted.
"...There’s nothing." He stood up.
"What now?" another asked.
The first man thought for a moment.
"We wait for the leader and deputy leader."
Another of the red-robed figures stepped forward and looked down at Butcher Deng.
"What were you doing here?"
Butcher Deng swallowed.
"...Evening walk."
"Then keep walking," the man said coldly. "Follow your usual route."
Butcher Deng blinked.
"...Can I go back to town?"
No answer.
The silence was enough of an answer.
"...Right. Of course not."
He forced out a nervous laugh.
"Ha... haha..."
Inside, he was already regretting everything.
Of all the times to go for a walk, why today?
Why here?
He got up slowly, legs slightly unsteady.
Surrounded by the red-robed figures, he began walking forward along the dirt path, his movements stiff and cautious.
Behind him, the lake reflected the fading light of the sky.
And around him, the atmosphere grew heavier with each step.
Right then—
A streak of white light cut across the darkening sky.
It appeared suddenly, leaving behind a long, trailing tail, like a blade slicing through the night. For a brief moment, it illuminated the horizon before descending rapidly toward the earth.
The sight drew everyone’s attention.
The red-robed figures stopped.
Butcher Deng, who had been trembling all this while, instinctively raised his head.
Far away, still rushing toward Yanshan Lake, Lin Fan halted for a split second.
High above, the two falcons narrowed their sharp eyes.
For that brief instant—
Everyone saw it.
Except for Butcher Deng, who only thought it looked beautiful, the rest shared the same thought.
’Is that the one...?’
The streak grew brighter.
Then—
In just a few breaths—
It plunged deep into the Yanshan Forest.
A faint tremor seemed to pass through the ground.
The air grew still.
The direction was clear, and its location was deep within the forest.
---
"Two of you, come with me," one of the red-robed men said immediately.
He was clearly the most experienced among them. His voice was calm, but carried authority. As they all seem to follow his words.
"We’ll locate where that meteorite landed."
He turned slightly.
"You—contact the deputy leader. Inform him about this."
"Understood."
Another robed figure nodded.
Then one of them pointed toward Butcher Deng.
"What about this guy?" he asked. "He doesn’t seem useful anymore."
Butcher Deng’s heart nearly stopped.
His entire body stiffened.
’Are they going to silence me?’
That thought scared him, as fear crept into his bones.
The veteran, red-robed man fell silent for a moment, as if weighing the options.
Then, he nodded.
"Take him with us," he said. "Let the leader decide."
"Alright."
Before Butcher Deng could react, one of the robed figures grabbed him with one hand, like lifting a sack.
"Ah—!"
Butcher Deng let out a small cry, but quickly shut his mouth.
This strength—it wasn’t human.
The group moved immediately. Their speed was terrifying.
In just a few steps, they were already rushing toward the forest, their figures blurring in the dim light. Their pace was so fast that they nearly matched the speed of a car.
Butcher Deng dangled in the man’s grip, not daring to move.
His thoughts ran wild.
’These guys are monsters...’
’I want to go home...’
’God, please... just let me go back safely...’
’I swear... I won’t do anything bad again...’
’I won’t sell old meat anymore...’
’I won’t touch other people’s wives...’
’I’ll stop drinking... stop smoking...’
’I’ll live like a monk...’
’Just... let me live...’
His face turned pale.
For the first time in his life, he truly regretted everything.
---
Just a few miles away.
Lin Fan’s eyes were fixed on the direction where the meteor had fallen.
Excitement and urgency both surged within him.
"Damn it..."
"I can’t let that butcher get there first."
His steps quickened.
But even then, it wasn’t enough.
Running alone would take too long to get there.
He glanced around quickly.
Then, his eyes landed on something.
A bicycle.
It was parked near a small camping tent by the grassy field.
Lin Fan immediately moved toward it.
As he approached, faint voices could be heard from inside the tent.
"...friends, today we travelled from the city all the way to Yanshan Town..."
"...and witnessed the beautiful sunset at Yanshan Lake..."
Lin Fan paused for half a second.
’A blogger...’
He understood immediately.
"...tonight, I’ll be camping here. Tomorrow morning, we’ll continue our journey west..."
"...so don’t forget to follow your handsome Traveller Brother..."
"...and stay tuned for the next update of our—Journey to the West..."
A black line appeared on Lin Fan’s forehead.
’Journey to the West... seriously?’
He shook his head.
He didn’t have time for this.
’Sorry, Traveller Brother. Your journey might be interrupted."
He silently apologised in his heart.
Then, he stole the bicycle—No, wait! I mean, borrowed it.
If possible... he would return it later.
Without hesitation, he got on and started pedalling.
The blogger inside the tent remained completely unaware.
---
Lin Fan pushed forward fast.
But soon, he noticed something strange.
The bicycle felt... unusually smooth.
It was almost effortless. Even with minimal force, it sped forward rapidly. Rather much faster than he expected.
Even at such a fast speed, catching up to a sports car, controlling it was easier than expected.
