Chapter 228 – Draggy Draggy-Doo, This Circus Isn’t For You!
Chapter 228 – Draggy Draggy-Doo, This Circus Isn’t For You!
The day dragged on, and John was exhausted, running on Substance X and sheer stubbornness. Whenever this circus finished, he was going to sleep for days.
I should have worn my armour; I might have been able to catch a nap under the cover of my helmet. C'mon, man, focus for just a bit more. What are all these stats for if you can't stay up for thirty-six hours?
The other problem he had was that he was starving. Trying to stay awake and focused, he had started cycling his mana and ki, which caused him to become hungry. He stopped when he realized his mistake, but the damage was already done. He was tired, hungry, and had had it with this hearing.
Finally, he was called up to the stand. The goatman approached him with a smug smile on his face. Well, John wasn't sure if it was a smile or just how the man always looked. These Quirks really did a number on some people's bodies.
"Mr. Wayne. After all the testimonies we have heard here today, you have clearly overstepped your bounds as a visitor to our nation. You have been using an unregistered Quirk to assault people, which is a clear breach of the laws put out by the government and the PHSC. Also, you have been working without certification in a field where you hold influence over vulnerable people, giving advice that many would find questionable. On top of that, you have repeatedly failed to yield to the local authorities when they tried to detain you, painting yourself as a criminal by your own hand. What do you have to say for yourself?"
John just glared at the hateful little goat for a moment, then stood up, sick of this nonsense. "I protected the innocent and stopped the criminals. Sometimes it was in self-defence, other times it was in defence of others. I had no intention of being a pro hero when I came to Japan, just a teacher, but things don't always work out as you planned. I will not stand aside and let a criminal escape justice if there is something I can do about it. As for the rest, I-"
*BOOM*
The side of the courtroom exploded in a shower of splinters, interrupting him and causing panic to sweep through the crowd. A familiar woman stumbled through the wall, carrying a couple of large slushies from a convenience store. She looked around for a moment, then nonchalantly walked up to him, sucking her pink iced drink through a straw.
*Slurp*
"Ah, good. You remain with a beating heart. Sorry, I didn't mean to make you sick, just experiment. Seems to have been only half a nundinal that you were out, so it is good. Here, a peace offering. No anger, yes?" She said, then held out her other slushy to him. He took it without thinking, completely confused at what in the hell was happening here.
"Umm... thank you?"
"See! These things are great! Caution, though, they make head numb if you drink too fast. No need to see medici if it happens, just wait. Still good though."
*Slurp*
"Twilight Knight. Who is this person who has invaded my courtroom and seems to know you?" The judge asked, seemingly unfazed. She raised her hand to stop the bailiff and other heroes from approaching.
"Honestly, no idea. She... gave me some food poisoning a few weeks ago at a ball I was attending, but otherwise I had never met her before in my life." He replied honestly. The Takeyama fruits did poison him, among other things, but he wasn't going to go into details about that.
"Oh. My mistake. He knows my father; I can smell him on him. My name is-" She started, but was quickly interrupted.
"New Order - Disorientation!" Another voice shouted, interrupting her introduction. Twinkle charged into the room through the hole in the wall, running directly towards the woman. She jerked a couple of times before flashing, showing her indigo scales for a moment before solidifying as a human again.
"Ack! My slush snow! Leave me alone, crazy lady, I have no cats to give you!" She said, then cast a spell which caused dozens of her to form around the room.
"Grrr! Stop running, thief, you're under arrest!" Twinkle growled, then tackled the nearest copy. It went poof in a cloud of indigo glitter, covering Star and Stripe and everything around her in the stuff.
"Detain that woman!" The judge shouted, causing the heroes and police in the room to start scrambling after all the other copies. This led to dozens of glitter explosions, turning the entire courtroom and its occupants into a giant glitter ball.
Amidst the chaos, more copies would materialize, causing even more chaos. More chaos and more glitter. John just blinked a few times, then drank from his new slushie, his anger at this entire proceeding dissipating.
Heh, what a circus.
"Ab inconvenienti, this is embarrassing. Can I have that snow slush back, please? They are really good, and I felled mine." The woman said, materializing between his legs.
"Ahh... sure. Why not?" He said, passing her the drink.
"Gratias tibi ago. I don't know why the straw-haired lady and the smoky guy keep chasing me. I never bothered their sock drawers."
"Maybe it's because you keep stealing things. Why don't you give it all back and stop stealing more stuff? They might leave you alone then."
"Neg. Need to find something to get back home. Which is confusing. Why do I smell Dad on you? He isn't in this Universus. Do you know how to get me back home?"
"Maybe, but who is your dad?"
"Oh, he is-"
"John!?! Why are you here? And on the witness stand?" Twinkle said, stopping in front of him, scanning the chaos for the woman.
"Just trying to defend my visa, then this happened."
"Defend your visa? For crying out loud, don't they have anything better to do right now? They have villains running amok in their country, and they are trying to prosecute you? Maybe you should come back home and leave these idiots to their chaos. Speaking of chaos, have you seen that dragon lady? The actual one?" She said, smashing another copy that exploded in glitter.
*SLURP*
John facepalmed, then pointed down between his legs, the woman hidden from view by the thin wooden booth he was in, where she was blocked from view to most of the room, except the judge.
"WHAT! You have three girlfriends already, why is she between your legs?"
"If I were his Concubina, would you leave me alone, crazy cat lady?" The woman asked, then stood up and teleported away again before Twinkle could grab her.
"I'm not a crazy cat lady, and you're a criminal!"
*Slurp*
"You have six cats, and one duck that thinks it's a cat. You're a straw-haired, duck-lipped, cat lady. I think that is criminal, too!"
"ARGH! New Order - Mana Suppression!!!"
"Boo! You're about as fun as a sack of wet ferrets. Sleep well and wake, Sir. Your lips taste nice." The woman said from the side of the room, then smashed through another wall and left.
"STAR! Where is she?" Constantine asked, stepping out of a portal with some ethereal chains floating above him.
"What took you so damn long! She just left out the other side of the room!"
"Damn it! After her!" He said, grabbing her arm and sprinting towards the other hole in the wall.
The chaos ended as quickly as it began, leaving the courtroom nearly destroyed. Benches and chairs were overturned, two massive holes in the walls, and glitter covered everything and everyone.
*Beep, Beep, Beep*
The noise of a phone came from the judge's bench. The kangaroo lady was in the process of dusting herself off, glanced at the phone, then grabbed her gavel.
"I have no idea what that was, and frankly, I don't care. I've got places to be. Mr. Wayne, if you have further things you want to say, say them now; else, we are done for the day."
He looked at her for a moment and smiled. Her courtroom was destroyed, and she was coated in glitter. She seemed a bit frazzled, but appeared to have gotten her bearings already.
"No, your Grace. Go spend time with your family, and I will go do the same."
She looked at him a moment, then mouthed a silent thank you before speaking. "Due to this... incident, we will push the final decision on the status of Mr. Wayne until Monday morning. Until then, the court is adjourned." She said, slamming her gavel down. The rear door, already off its hinges, chose that moment to slip and clatter to the floor.
John just started to chuckle, which rapidly turned into a belly laugh. "God, I'm too damn tired and hungry for this crap."

"Those fibres are insane! If I can break down their composition and figure out how to reverse-engineer them, we will make so much money with all the inventions I can make with them. It's going to revolutionize science and engineering as we know it!"
"I know, right? And that fusion reactor. I have read about the ones we use, and they are nowhere near as small as that. So many things could be powered by them. Just replacing a ship's engine with a reactor like that would change the way logistics would work worldwide."
"Are you two still talking shop instead of swimming and relaxing? Don't make me drag you into the water." John asked Mei and Momo. He was bringing drinks back from the nearby stand for her and the rest of the girls of Flowing Mountain.
When they woke up that morning, he announced that they were taking the day off. Once everyone who was coming by to train had shown up, he brought them all to a beach in a nearby coastal town for a day of relaxing.
"You wouldn't dare!" Momo said, which was probably the exact wrong thing to say to John.
"Oh, I would," John said, setting the drinks down, then grabbed the two scrambling girls and tucked them underneath his arms.
"AH!!! I'll stop, I'll stop! Put me down! Dad please?!? MOM! HELP ME!" Mei said, struggling in vain in his grip.
"No, I think she needs a good dip. Have fun, you three!" Yu said, taking her drink and returning to lying under her umbrella. She smiled that Mei had called him dad. It boded well for their relationship going forward. She touched her belly for a moment, wondering if it was finally time for their next step. By the calendar, she should be fertile this weekend, so if they were going to get her mother off their backs about having a baby, now would be a good time.
"NO!" "Me and my big mouth!" Mei and Momo said as John trotted off to the water to join Tsui and Anan, who were already swimming.
"He doesn't seem too fazed by the hearing yesterday," Yu said, looking beside her at Rumi. They were wearing matching white bikinis, though, if she were honest, it looked way better on Rumi than on her.
"No, he is. He is hiding it, but he is angry about it. He is really pissed about the prosecution trying to use us against him."
"Yeah. I tried my best, but unless I started lying, there wasn't much I could do there."
"Don't worry about it. He isn't mad at you, just the system here."
"You sure? I was really worried last night when he just wanted to sleep."
"He was just tired. Don't think too much into it. If he had a problem with you, he would say something. That is just how he is wired."
"I guess I still have so much to learn about him. I was worried he was angry at me."
"At us, you mean. We were all grilled the same way."
"Yeah. Sorry, I'm just nervous. Now that you've had your turn, it's suddenly got more real to me."
"When it happens, just relax and let him guide you. I tell ya, it was better than even when he casts his magic on you."
"Better? Really?"
"Oh yeah. Being beaten in a fight never felt so good."
"What are you two talking about?" Ochacu asked, just stirring awake from a short nap she was having.
"Oh, just about... John and his new... training regime for us." Yu stumbled through a reply, not realizing Ochacu was even still there.
"About making babies. Now, don't be doing that, not until after you graduate anyway." Rumi said, bulldozing Yu's response in a way that only Rumi could do.
"I won't. Midoriya and I will need to get married first, and get ourselves situated financially before we consider that!" She replied, then took a drink from the tray John had left.
"Married. Yeah, that is something that happens." Yu murmured, then looked over at John. He had Mei held above his head, threatening to dunk her in the water while she was screaming in laughter above him as she was trying to escape. Momo, apparently already having been dunked, slammed into the back of his legs, knocking them all underwater. It suddenly became a water fight, with all the girls teaming up on John. He looked like he was having the time of his life out there.
"Rumi. I want to be married first. Do you think he will mind?"
"No. In fact, he might even love you more for that."
"Good. Now, excuse me, our man looks like he needs some backup." She said, standing up and running to the water.
Rumi just watched her go, chuckling at the lovesick woman. She wasn't the smartest woman around, mainly compared to the company she was keeping these days, but that was okay. She understood people, and more importantly, understood John.
That was more than enough.
