Chapter 220 – A New Order Returns
Chapter 220 – A New Order Returns
Atsugi, Japan
"Stop right there!" Aizawa shouted as he got close to the box truck. The suspects turned towards him, then let loose a barrage of ranged Quirk powers, forcing him to dive behind a parked van.
Guess that answers whether they are villains or not. God, I hate fighting mobs.
"Leave that crap and get in! We're out of here!" The driver of the truck shouted, starting the engine.
"But the boss said-"
"The boss said what? Get captured and lose the equipment, or just lose the equipment? That is Eraser Head, and he kicked our asses last time we fought, and we had more people then. Now stop arguing and move!"
Glad my reputation precedes me, though with that barrage of ranged attacks, it isn't like I can advance on them easily.
He started to rush towards the truck, keeping the line of parked vehicles between him and the three ranged Quirk villains at the back of the box truck. The truck started to move forward as the last woman got into the back, forcing him to try to board it before it outdistanced him.
He jumped on the hood of a car, then leapt again, trying to clear the distance to the back of the truck. He used his quirk to shut off one of the ranged users' quirks, trying to disorient them momentarily just as he was landing on top of them. It didn't work.
Halfway to his target, a large blue orb slammed into him as he caught the attack of another villain right in the chest, halting his forward momentum and causing him to fall to the ground. He rolled with the attack; the rubber-like ball not actually hurting him, but it was enough to prevent him from reaching the back of the truck.
Aizawa cursed as the truck sped off down the road, the vehicle not even having a license plate for him to read. He pulled out his phone to at least take a picture of the fleeing vehicle, though he had no idea-
*SCREEECH!!!! BANG!!!!*
Unable to brake in time, the truck slammed into something as it tried to blow through an intersection down the road. Aizawa rushed after it, confused at what had happened. By the time he got up there, the villains were just starting to recover, though many were lying still as they were standing in the back of a box truck with nothing to hang onto but each other.
More perplexing was what was in front of the truck. A very beautiful woman with fairly short, black hair, a pair of katana on her back, and wearing a black leather corset that looked like something Midnight would wear. She was scrambling to pick up a pile of... toys?
It looks like someone's anime doll collection just blew up over the street here.
"New Order - Lock Magic!" A shout from the side street caught his attention. He turned to look and was floored when Star and Stripe landed near the dark-haired woman. "I got you now, criminal."
"Es stercus! Stop following me around like a lost camel! I have no water to shed for you." The dark-haired woman said, dropping everything and jumping over the side of the road, diving into the torrential waters of the Sagami River.
Star rushed after her but didn't follow her into the river; instead, she looked at the sheer destruction unfolding before her. "Did she do this, too? And the injured from the accident. Argh! I need to help them." She said to herself, not realizing he was nearby.
"Actually, I think the ones she stopped caused the explosion." He said, then turned back to look at the truck. The front end was caved in, as if the truck had run directly into one of those reinforced concrete pillars outside many buildings. The villains themselves were stirring; he didn't have much time to subdue them before they came too.
"New Order - Slow Flow!" Star called out, snapping her fingers. The rushing river immediately slowed down, her Quirk seemingly powerful enough to arrest the momentum of millions of litres of water. She turned to him and spoke. "You say these were the ones who had a hand in destroying this dam? Well, let's arrest them and take them to the station, or whatever you heroes do in Japan."
He found himself staring at her for a few moments too long before he caught himself. He was never much for thinking about the opposite sex, but something about the tall, muscular woman really caught his attention. For a fleeting moment, he wondered what it would be like to be crushed by her thighs. He shook it off; clearly, this was not the right situation for... suggesting anything like that. He didn't even know her.
"Yeah. Let's tie them up before they get their bearings, then I'll call the police for pick-up." He said, then added. "By the way, my name is Eraser Head. Mind if I ask you why America's Number One hero is in Japan, and apparently chasing a thief?" He didn't ask why she was chasing the toy thief while the dam had literally exploded.
"Nice to meet you, Eraser Head. Just call me Star. As to why, well, that is a long, convoluted question that I can't give you all the answers to. She might have been stealing toys today, but on other days, she had tried to get her paws on much more valuable things. My partner teleported me here the moment we got a bead on her location again, so I had no idea what she was stealing or what was going on with your dam."
"I see. Well, at the very least, her presence prevented these guys from escaping. Sorry you didn't manage to catch her, though."
"She is a crafty one to lock down. She has... a bunch of Quirks that I need to lock down, then try and chase her. If I lock down her body, she can just.... teleport away. It is getting rather wearing how many times she has been able to escape. If she didn't use my brother as a guinea pig to test something she stole, I would probably have given up on the chase now."
"I see." He said as they began rounding up the villains. He only had a couple of zap straps, but he didn't appear to need them, as the presence of a world-renowned hero like Star and Stripe seemed to end any thought of their escape. After they were done, an odd thought struck him, and he said. "You know, my Quirk is perfect to fight one-on-one with another Quirk user. I can help you capture that thief if you want."
She looked at him oddly, then said, "Maybe, but it's usually just the pair of us sitting somewhere for long hours while he tries to divine her location, then a mad rush to try and corner her. We do need more hands, but not everyone has the spare time to idle around while waiting. We don't exactly have a large budget, so I couldn't pay you for your time."
"No need to pay me. I don't need money."
"Then what do you want for your services?"
"I'd like to take you out for dinner. Maybe watch a movie or something afterwards." He said, shooting his first shot in years. He was rusty as hell when it came to dating, but when would he ever have the chance to do something like this again? Even if nothing came of it, he could at least say he tried.
A hand clasped his shoulder, and the musky smell of a cigarette wafted in the air. He turned to see a slightly taller man in an unkempt-looking business suit smile at him. "You wouldn't be trying to flirt with my woman, would you, there chap?"
"Oh me? Of course not. Just thanking her for helping round up these villains. Nothing more."
"Good. Hate for there to be any misunderstandings." He said, still smiling at him, though it didn't reach his eyes. "Now, don't you have some police to be contacting or something? We are not going to watch these idiots all day for you."
"John, leave him be and come help me with this dam. I can't hold my Quirk on it forever." Star said, breaking the tension that had suddenly built up.
"Right. Damn, that is a big gap. I can put something in, but it's not going to last forever."
"It doesn't need to. It just needs to slow the flow until it levels out."
"Fine, but you can explain it all to the powers that be. I didn't come here to help out with these issues, but to catch that thief."
"Stop being a sour puss and do your thing. You know you were going to do it anyway, why bother complaining?"
"It helps me think. Okay, I got a plan. I need..." The man said, forgetting about Aizawa, and started to do something with his Quirk to limit the water's flow.
For his part, Aizawa sighed and turned back to keep an eye on the villains as he called the police.
Damn it, of course she is taken. Oh well, it was a spur-of-the-moment idea. Not like I had put any thought into it. Still, I should put myself out there more. Maybe I should talk to John... the other John about it; he seems like a man I could open up to about my past issues and not judge me on them.
He looked down the river, the flow looking almost normal again. That section of the river was designed for heavy flow when they opened the flood gates, so that wave of water, while significantly more than normal, should have been well contained. He just hoped that there were no boats at the mouth of the river when it happened.
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Headquarters
Tokyo, Japan
The guard captain took a blow to the chest, sending him flying across the room. That pretty much spelled the end of their fight against these villains, the remaining guards being overwhelmed by the sheer power of that big blue beast. If he had to guess, only about five minutes had passed since the battle commenced; the villains were taking their time to slowly overwhelm them.
The guards had fought a running retreat down the hallway, but kept getting picked off one by one. They had managed to taser a few villains, but for the most part, they hid behind their big beast and took pot shots at the guards from a distance while it continued to shrug off any damage they could do to it.
The captain collided with the now-closed vault door, one of several large vaults in the bank's headquarters. This one was the smallest, used mainly for day-to-day operations and for cash exchanges in different countries' currencies. Not that it mattered at this time, he had more important things to worry about.
"Which one of you is in charge? Open this door, or else I'll start having this nomu eat your brains and get the information out of you that way." One of the villains said, staring at the collapsed guards. She couldn't have been more than eighteen, if even that old.
"I'm in charge, but we don't have the codes to get into the vaults. We are guards, not bankers."
"Well then, Mr. Guard, where are the bankers at? We are trying to keep the killing to a minimum, but if you don't help me, we might have to change that rule." She said, stalking up to him.
"Escaped out the back? They wouldn't be staying in the building, that's for sure." He said, resigning himself to his fate.
"Huh, and here I was hoping we could be good friends. Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles, I suppose! Nomu! Break down the door! You can eat this guy for your reward once you get through." She said, kicking him in the head before turning back to the other villains. "The rest of you, gather the rest of the guards up. We might need hostages while we wait for extraction- Ack!"
She dived to the side as a blur of movement passed where she had been standing a moment prior. A very short old man in a yellow and red hero suit landed beside him, his cape somehow fluttering in a non-existent wind.
"Hmm, I must be getting slow in my old age. That should have caught her." The man muttered, then spoke loudly, "Halt. You are all under arrest. Come peacefully, and we won't have to hurt you."
"We? You're alone, old man. Nomu, new orders, get him." She said while standing back up.
"I was hoping you said something like that. It wouldn't be training for the new kid if you just gave up. Subdue them, Lad!"
A green blur with blue energy coming off of it passed in front of the guard, turning into a short, green-haired kid. A kid who smashed the beast they called a nomu with a devastating side kick, sending the massive creature slamming up against the side of the vault. Every head turned to watch this battle, as the creature stood back up and started swinging its fists at its smaller opponent.
Everyone, but the old man, who started flying around and knocking out all the villains, none of them expecting an aerial attack at that time. The Captain didn't notice at first, his eyes watching this teenager go toe to toe with a beast that dropped two pro heroes like they were nothing more than a nuisance. He thought he knew all the pro heroes, but he didn't recognize either of these two, making him wonder just who the hell they were.
Not that I'm complaining, I'd be dead if it wasn't for them.
As the fight intensified, he managed to stand and begin dragging his fallen guards out of the fight. The old man joined him, carrying two people at a time away from where the other two were fighting.
"Why aren't you helping him?" He asked once his last guard was moved away.
"I'm letting him get a feel for his Quirk. If he starts to lose, I'll step in, but right now the best thing is just getting these people out of his way. That way, he can let loose if he needs to."
"Let loose? You don't call that letting loose?"
"Not at all. Right now, he is being careful with his power. If he wasn’t being careful, he would start putting holes in the wall. If he let it all go, well, that beast would probably be somewhere outside of the building. Still, something is odd about this one compared to the one that Yagi had told me about before. It doesn't seem anywhere near as strong or fast as that one..." The man said, turning his attention back to the fight. "Watch these villains for me, please. I need to make sure the kid doesn't get in trouble."
The man darted back towards the fight, leaving the guard captain standing there confused. Somehow, in a matter of minutes, they had gone from being overwhelmed to having all but won the fight. He activated his X-ray vision Quirk and began disarming the unconscious villains, taking their weapons and setting them aside. He tied them up with anything he could get his hands on, which was mainly their shoelaces. The din of the fight was getting louder, but it seemed contained to the hallway outside of the vault.
He sighed again. He just wanted to go home, crash on his couch and have a nap. Maybe put some ice on his bruises. He laughed for a moment, his thoughts echoing his fallen guard buddy. "I don't get paid enough to deal with this crap."
