Chapter 149: The Arrow She Shot

Chapter 149: The Arrow She Shot

She could "see" the black mist swirling within the apple. The black mist seemed to be the same as the one in the Energy Stone, just not as deep in color.

She summoned her spiritual power to disperse the black mist within the apple.

The apple in front of her seemed a few shades brighter than before, its redness particularly delightful.

Frequent use of spiritual power was making Su Ruan feel a bit exhausted; she held the apple in her hand, slowly closed her eyes, and unknowingly fell asleep.

Duoduo was busy drawing a terrain map beside her, while Zhao Yujie tinkered with the toolbox they had found, and made a few more arrows for Su Ruan.

The arrows they had gotten earlier were all used up, leaving only the ones Su Ruan made from tree branches.

Zhao Yujie examined the arrows Su Ruan crafted and began making some himself.

Both Duoduo and Zhao Yujie had strong practical skills, but their spiritual power was low, and their combat power a bit lacking; thus, such logistical work was perfect for them.

Su Ruan had not expected that she, a mere combat lightweight, would become the main fighting force in this small trio.

While the three quietly attended to their respective tasks, a tiger not far away fixed its gaze on the apple in Su Ruan’s hand, a faint ferocity appearing within its tiger eyes.

It could sense that the apple was extremely sweet—so sweet that it almost lost control, instinctively wanting to snatch it away.

But the woman holding the apple felt dangerous.

And those two bothersome men nearby...

The tiger’s silhouette gradually faded into the shadows, becoming indistinct.

Time slipped away quickly, and before they knew it, it was already three in the afternoon.

Duoduo woke Su Ruan up to discuss their next plan.

"I just received news from the captain." Duoduo’s expression was grave. "Our captain’s team was ambushed by people from the First and Fourth Legions, suffering heavy losses."

"The captain told us to hide temporarily and not to join them— instead, to find the Military Token first."

Su Ruan didn’t know much about the members of the Third Legion who came to participate in the tournament this time, but not having to join the main force conveniently allowed her to act freely.

She nodded in agreement: "Alright, let’s stick to the previous plan."

"You go provoke people from other legions; I and Senior Zhao will find a place to hide out."

Duoduo’s mouth twitched slightly.

Even though he talked a bit too much and seemed a bit punchable, did he really need to be the one provoking all the legions?

Duoduo cast a resentful glance at Su Ruan, "Junior, when you get out there, you better speak with Commander Lu properly, my sacrifice this time is huge."

Su Ruan: ...

She patted Duoduo’s shoulder, seriously saying, "I trust you can definitely provoke people from other legions."

"Remember, bring no more than two people over; more than that, neither Senior Zhao nor I can handle it."

Duoduo sighed helplessly and nodded, indicating he understood.

"Okay." He stood up, stretched his wrists, "Looks like it’s up to me today."

Su Ruan reminded him worriedly: "Be careful."

She also stood up, her expression serious, "Remember, your safety is the most important."

Duoduo was momentarily surprised, seemingly not expecting Su Ruan to say that.

Two seconds later, he laughed heartily, "Don’t worry, I still aim to lead our team to victory!"

After saying that, he turned around, waved to them, and left the orchard.

After Duoduo left, Su Ruan and Zhao Yujie began setting traps.

Su Ruan nonchalantly placed the apple, now clear of the black mist, into her pocket, not noticing that not far away, a pair of tiger eyes were fixated on that apple, its whiskers twitching, eyes gleaming fiercely.

Half an hour later, Duoduo’s voice sounded from the distance.

"You said you couldn’t do it? You can’t even chase after a logistic soldier like me?"

Su Ruan’s ears twitched slightly, knowing Duoduo had brought someone over.

She stood on a tree trunk, hidden among the shade, holding her bow and arrow aimed in the direction.

A few minutes later, Duoduo’s figure appeared within her view, with a man following him, roughly six-foot-three with a beard, looking thickset and burly.

As he chased Duoduo, he shouted, "Duoduo, quickly return my stuff to me."

"Otherwise, when I catch you, I’ll surely pound you into the ground!"

Duoduo made a face back at him, taunting, "You think you can pound your Grandpa Qian? I think you better go home and drink milk!"

The burly man was incensed, grabbing the laser gun in his hand and firing a shot.

Fortunately, Duoduo quickly reacted and barely dodged it.

Su Ruan pulled up the bow and arrow, adding a bit of spiritual power to the arrow’s tip; with a swift motion, the arrow flew straight towards the burly man’s calf.

The man reacted quickly, almost moving aside at the instant the arrow appeared, which would normally allow him to dodge it.

But the arrow seemed to have eyes of its own, curving mid-flight towards him.

The arrow tip cut his skin, and the smell of blood began to permeate the air.

For some reason, the burly man’s body suddenly froze in place, staring straight at Su Ruan’s direction, lost in thought.

Taking advantage of his momentary distraction, Duoduo returned and, along with Zhao Yujie who had been waiting nearby, tied the man up thoroughly.

After being tied up, the man appeared unusually calm and asked, "Who was that person?"

Duoduo patted his shoulder, "Let me tell you, Zhang Laoer, your Grandpa Qian is pretty impressive, right?"

The man called Zhang Laoer spat, "Impressive my ass! Cunning!"

"Who was the person who shot the arrow?" He persistently asked.

"What does it matter who that person is?" Duoduo clicked his tongue lightly, "Anyway, you’re now a prisoner of your Grandpa Qian."

Duoduo chuckled, "Let me see what goodies you have."

Duoduo began searching Zhang Laoer’s belongings.

Meanwhile, up on the tree branch, after shooting the arrow, Su Ruan inexplicably felt dizzy.

She supported herself against the tree trunk with one hand, her face growing paler, and hints of red flashed in her pure black pupils.

She slid down the trunk, the apple in her pocket rolling out.

Su Ruan set her bow and arrow aside, preparing to pick up the apple.

After walking a dozen paces, the apple finally stopped.

Su Ruan was just about to pick it up but saw a large brown-yellow paw resting on the apple.

Su Ruan: ???

She raised her gaze only to see an old-looking tiger standing two steps away, its large tiger eyes fixed on her.

The tiger saw her looking over, flicked its tail, pressured forward a step, and let out a low growl full of menace.
