Chapter 685 - 168 Maybe Just Didn’t Want to See Her
Raising his hand, he turned the originally warm water directly to cold, allowing the gradually chilling water to cascade down from the top of his head and envelop his entire body. Even though the weather was somewhat hot, not every person is accustomed to taking cold showers. Anyone else would shiver uncontrollably from the cold; however, the man seemed to feel nothing at all. With his eyes closed and hand braced against the wall, the heat suffusing his body forced him to breathe heavily. Despite the relentless pouring of icy water from above, he still felt an intense heat throughout his body.
Ten minutes later, Lu Jingchen walked out of the bathroom dressed in a bathrobe, a confused haze in his eyes. Water was still dripping from his hair, rolling down directly onto his neck and even inside the bathrobe.
His gaze first fell on the large bed in the bedroom, but he did not see the woman who should have been there. His expression darkened, and all of a sudden, he remembered the slightly pained look on her face that he had caught when he looked at her earlier. His Adam’s apple bobbed, but without any hesitation, he headed straight for the door.
Just as he reached the door and was about to open it, before his hand could touch the doorknob, the door opened from the outside. First, he smelled the all-too-familiar scent of his usual shower gel, and then he saw the woman wearing a camisole dress and an overcoat.
When Song Qiao saw him, she was startled at first, then asked, "Are you... going out again?"
Lu Jingchen’s gaze moved from her face to the steaming bowl of sobering soup in her hands.
Seeing Lu Jingchen’s attention on the bowl of sobering soup she was holding, Song Qiao quickly explained, "I noticed the smell of alcohol on you earlier and guessed you must have had quite a bit to drink, so I went down and made you a bowl of sobering soup. Would you like some?"
The exquisite ceramic bowl was one they had picked out at the mall while shopping for furniture some time ago; they were all identical and very pretty, and Song Qiao liked them very much.
Lu Jingchen said nothing, instead shifting his gaze to her face. His eyes were deep and focused, exuding an intensity that was hard to ignore. He stood motionless in front of her, enveloping her presence like an impenetrable net.
Perhaps it was the man’s intense gaze that made Song Qiao feel completely uncomfortable. She looked up directly into his eyes and asked, "Will you drink it? If not, I will let..."
Before she could finish her sentence, the bowl of sobering soup was already taken by the man, who then drank it in one gulp.
"Let’s sleep," he said in a low and seductive voice, with a hint of huskiness.
After drinking, Lu Jingchen promptly placed the bowl aside and, without further ado, closed the door behind the woman.
Song Qiao wanted to say something more, but upon seeing the resolute back of Lu Jingchen as he turned around without hesitation, the words got stuck in her throat and she couldn’t say them out loud.
Song Qiao washed her hands in the bathroom then returned to the bed. Lu Jingchen was already lying on his side with his eyes closed, and she didn’t know whether he was asleep or not.
But Song Qiao was certain that he was not yet asleep - perhaps he just didn’t want to see her.
This thought crossed her mind, suddenly making her feel an ache in her heart, but without dwelling much on it, she climbed into the bed and curled up into a small ball.
