Chapter 684 - 167 Lu Jingchen Returns
He ultimately set the phone back down. They had argued so unpleasantly at noon; he had even stormed out by slamming the door behind him. Calling him now might just further sour his mood.
The spot beside her was chillingly cold. Although she had always known she shouldn’t fall deeply into this relationship, Song Qiao still found herself unwittingly in love with this man.
At this thought, Song Qiao, who was lying down, suddenly sat up, rubbed her hair in irritation, and turned her head to gaze out of the floor-to-ceiling window, staring blankly with her knees hugged to her chest.
She didn’t know how long she had been daydreaming—perhaps a few minutes, maybe just over ten. Just when she was getting drowsy, the sound of a car engine came from outside.
Lu Jingchen... had returned.
Instantaneously, a thought flashed through Song Qiao’s mind, clearing the haze of drowsiness. Hardly had her feet touched the floor, when she froze, a conflated expression spreading across her face.
The bedroom door wasn’t shut tightly, leaving a narrow gap through which she could faintly hear the butler downstairs asking Jingchen if he wanted a midnight snack. Quickly, Song Qiao lay back down and closed her eyes.
Feigning sleep.
Inside the room, silence prevailed until, after a while, footsteps—unmistakably Jingchen’s—could be heard approaching. Song Qiao swiftly pulled the covers over herself, curling up inside the bedding, her fingers subconsciously tightening their grip on it.
The footsteps came closer, seemingly deliberately lightened, followed by the sound of the bedroom door opening. In that moment, a strong scent of alcohol hit Song Qiao’s nose.
He’s been drinking... That was the sole thought in Song Qiao’s mind.
Abandoning her act of sleep, she immediately opened her eyes and sat up to see Jingchen’s figure walking towards the wardrobe. His steps were steady, yet if you looked closely, you’d see a slight stagger in his gait.
Lu Jingchen took out a bathrobe from the wardrobe. As he came out, he saw the woman sitting on the bed. His eyes darkened and his steps paused before he finally spoke, "You’re awake? Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you."
His voice was incredibly hoarse, as if his throat had been scorched.
Song Qiao tightened her grip on the blanket beneath her, about to speak but she halted abruptly. Jingchen didn’t say more and turned to head to the bathroom. She watched him walk in and close the door behind him, blocking her view.
The indifferent look on Jingchen’s face just now inexplicably caused her a wave of discomfort. Song Qiao, feeling restless, stared at the closed bathroom door. Not long after, the sound of pouring water could be heard. After a moment of contemplation, she gritted her teeth and finally got out of bed and walked towards the door.
...
In the bathroom under the shower, Lu Jingchen stood and let the hot water pour down from above. He wiped the foggy mirror with a hand, revealing his face.
His handsome face flushed with an alluring red. The image of the woman sitting on the bed came to mind, in her enticing spaghetti strap nightgown. At that thought, a sense of unexplainable heat surged within Jingchen’s body.
