Chapter 166: Bribery
Chapter 166: Bribery
The notebook lay quietly beside the precious amber fossil, looking as bizarre as it could get.
But Damian Knight felt nothing amiss. He exhaled in relief and said, "Alright, let’s go. Summer Monroe can now track the other party’s location and send it to us."
He wanted to see which person out there was willing to risk hundreds of lives just to kill him.
"Alright." Isaac Ross said as he walked out, "Then give me her contact info."
Damian Knight gave Isaac a fleeting glance and said, "I’ll contact her myself."
He looked as if he couldn’t trust Isaac.
Question marks floated over Isaac’s head, and a line from a popular singer echoed in his mind: "Kid, do you have a lot of questions?"
...
Stanton Manor.
When Damian Knight texted Summer Monroe, she was just bribing one of Stella Monroe’s confidantes in the manor.
Summer had secretly observed and noted this maid for a long time, and through a private detective, she’d learned that the maid’s family had a child with polio requiring extensive treatment and rehabilitation costs.
Knowing this, Stella Monroe occasionally gave Leah Lowell money, asking her to do some shady things.
And indeed, Leah did many dirty deeds for Stella, for the sake of her child.
Of course, what Summer valued wasn’t Leah’s vulnerability, but the fact that Leah had been with the Stanton family for a long time, even back when Luna Monroe was still around.
She hoped to glean some information from Leah.
However, when Summer offered to pay Leah as long as she continued to stay close to Stella, Leah’s eyes were full of caution. She smiled falsely and declined, "Miss, what are you doing? The family’s salary is more than generous. How could I, as a maid, dare to ask for more money?"
Summer unhurriedly offered two pre-purchased tickets.
Leah glanced at the tickets; they were for a destination abroad.
She dropped her smile and asked, "Miss, what do you mean? If I don’t take your money, will you force me abroad?"
Summer handed over a business card.
Leah took it, her expression instantly changed, and her gaze at Summer became peculiar.
Summer smiled faintly and said, "This is an expert I know overseas specializing in treating polio. His expertise is top-notch internationally, and people line up from home to get an appointment with him. And those two tickets, they’re not for you; you can find someone you trust to take your child for treatment. I’ll cover all treatment costs and daily expenses. So, what do you say? Do you take the deal?"
Leah’s eyes flickered twice.
Stella only gave her money, but to see a truly great doctor, money wasn’t enough. You also needed influence, and as a maid, how could she ever arrange an appointment with such an expert?
Summer impatiently tapped the tabletop and said, "I don’t have much patience. Have you made up your mind?"
Leah bit down hard on her teeth.
The child’s situation was already dire; she had no time to waste...
Summer’s eyes radiated impatience, and looking as if she couldn’t wait any longer, she stood up to show the door: "Alright, since you’re so loyal, you can leave. We’ll pretend today’s conversation never happened."
Saying this, she pulled the business card from Leah’s hands.
Leah felt a void in her heart and hurriedly grasped the card with force.
Summer raised an eyebrow, questioning with her gaze what this meant.
Leah took a deep breath and said, "Miss, just tell me what you want me to do. As long as my child can be cured, I’m willing to do anything!"
