Chapter 424: Chapter 425: Perfume, Bite Marks, Late Return

"Now that you’re pregnant, you should be extra careful about eating out. Food from outside isn’t hygienic, and didn’t the TV mention it? Those Cunning Merchants even use gutter oil for cooking, which is very bad for your health... Their vegetables are probably not non-polluting, and they likely don’t wash them properly either..."

Pauline Briggs kept chattering. Sienna Johnson suddenly thought her mother was quite endearing; although a little muddled, she clearly had no ill intentions.

"Anyway, I don’t have much else to do. How about I cook for you from now on?" Pauline finished, glancing carefully at her daughter, afraid she would refuse.

"..."

"It seems I’ve said too much..."

"It’s fine. Just say whatever you want to say," Sienna Johnson said indifferently.

Pauline looked at Sienna, wanting to say many things but not knowing where to begin. Just then, Adrian Desmond returned.

Sienna’s eyes had been darting towards the doorway, so she saw Adrian the moment he entered. Leaving Pauline behind, she hurried over to him, passed through the small dining room, and stood before Adrian.

"Where have you been?"

"Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

They spoke at the same time. Sienna approached him. As she caught the scent of perfume on him, her expression stiffened. The fragrance was unfamiliar; she was certain it wasn’t hers, nor was it a type Adrian would ever use.

So, who had this man met so late at night, to return reeking of perfume?

Pauline walked over, looked at Adrian, and complained unhappily, "It’s so late, and you’re only just getting back? Sienna is pregnant! As her husband, how can you be so inconsiderate?"

Sienna Johnson couldn’t help but admit that Madam Johnson was quite lovely in some respects. She looked at Adrian and didn’t intervene, letting Madam Johnson continue to chide him.

"A friend came over, so I went to meet them," Adrian Desmond said vaguely.

"What kind of friend keeps you out so late that people can’t even sleep?"

"Don’t you have to go to the company tomorrow as well? Go to sleep early, or you won’t be able to get up," Adrian told Sienna. He then said goodnight to Pauline and took Sienna back to their room.

Once the door closed, Sienna crossed her arms and stared at Adrian. He looked evasive and wouldn’t meet her gaze, appearing distinctly guilty.

"I’m going to take a shower!" he said, heading towards the bathroom.

Sienna stopped him. "Sixth Master, are you trying to destroy the evidence?" she asked.

"What do you mean?"

He turned and stood there, looking at Sienna.

Sienna slowly walked over to him, tilting her head back to look up at the tall man. She leaned in, sniffed, and then said slowly, "Rose-scented perfume... I don’t recall either of us owning a perfume like this..."

"..."

"I think you need to explain to your wife," she said, deliberately emphasizing the word "wife" to assert her position, "why you’ve come home so late, smelling of a rose perfume that clearly belongs to a woman." She then stood straight, looking at him, awaiting his answer.

Adrian asked, "Are you accusing me of cheating?"

"If I thought you were cheating, I wouldn’t be speaking to you so calmly. I just want to know what you were doing. You’ve been very strange today."

"Strange? How so?"

Sienna, like a veritable Sherlock Holmes, analyzed coolly, "Since I became pregnant, you’ve never come home this late. When you saw me just now, you looked surprised. I believe that surprise stemmed from not expecting me to still be awake. If I’m not mistaken, you intended to shower and go to bed, assuming I’d be asleep, thereby feigning you hadn’t gone out at all."

"Adrian, you don’t even dare to look at me. That’s a clear sign of guilt... What are you feeling guilty about?"

"..."

"So, I’m curious. What exactly did you do?"

"..."

"Adrian, can’t you even tell me?"

Adrian looked at her. "Sienna," he said, "I don’t want to deceive you, but I also don’t want to lie to you. So, please, don’t ask anymore, alright?"

Sienna lowered her head and thought for a moment. Then she asked just one more question, "You really haven’t cheated on me?"

"No!" he answered firmly, without a hint of hesitation. Sienna looked into his eyes again, seeking confirmation, and Adrian met her scrutinizing gaze directly, unflinching.

"Alright. Since you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t ask anymore."

Adrian’s expression visibly relaxed. He smiled at her and took a step forward, intending to kiss her, but Sienna dodged him. "I can’t stand that smell on you. Go wash it off before you even think about kissing me."

"Alright."

Since she became pregnant, neither of them had used perfume.

Sienna stared at his retreating figure, remaining silent for a while until the sound of rushing water echoed from the bathroom. Only then did she walk to the bedside and glance at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It read 2:45 a.m. It really was very late.

Sienna took off her shoes, slipped under the covers, and got into bed. She was probably so exhausted that she fell asleep before Adrian even finished his shower.

In the bathroom, Adrian stood drenched, a large towel wrapped around his waist. He stared at his reflection in the mirror, his expression grim. A distinct bite mark was visible on his collarbone. He reached out, lightly touched it, and whispered a woman’s name,

"Alice..."

「...」

「The next day, early in the morning, the alarm clock blared, jolting the sleeping woman awake.」

Sienna Johnson didn’t even need to look to know the time: 7:30 a.m.

She opened her eyes, slapped the alarm off, and noticed Adrian beside her was still sound asleep, his face etched with fatigue.

Sienna Johnson found it amusing. She playfully brushed the tip of her hair against his nose. His large hand reflexively swatted at the tickle, disturbing his peaceful slumber, but he didn’t wake.

"Adrian, get up! The sun’s practically burning your backside!" she said, in the same tone she used when talking to Curly.

Adrian mumbled something Sienna couldn’t quite make out. She continued to urge him, shaking his arm. "Get up now..."

"..."

"What on earth did you do last night to be this exhausted?"

She leaned closer and then, unexpectedly, saw the bite mark on his collarbone. Her gaze fixed on the wound. She recognized it instantly. It was a bite mark, and whoever did it had used considerable force; the wound was deep.

Her gaze intensified. Her heart felt as if a jar of mixed emotions had shattered within her—a bitter, sour, confusing mess. That bite mark definitely wasn’t from her. Even if men fought, they wouldn’t bite. So, it had to be a woman.

Perfume, a bite mark, returning home late...

Sienna wanted to find an excuse for Adrian, but she couldn’t conjure a single one.

Adrian had insisted he hadn’t cheated. But with so much damning evidence, Sienna didn’t know whether to trust her own eyes or his words.
