Chapter 403: Chapter 404: Becoming the Son-in-law of My Great Orienta
"Hey, it’s not worth it to get upset all by yourself and harm your own health."
"..."
"You’re upset now, but I don’t even know why. You need to tell me why you’re angry so I know where I went wrong. I’ll change in the future so I won’t keep upsetting you, don’t you think?"
Adrian Desmond mentally prepared himself. Lowering his head to a woman time and time again damaged his male pride, but this was *his* woman. She was carrying his child; if she got upset and harmed her health, it would ultimately be his loss. Owen Hunter was right. What did a man’s pride and dignity matter in front of the woman he loved?
"Speak up!"
"Okay, I’ll say it! Your mistake is your lack of ideological awareness!"
"..."
"Adrian, do you think that marrying only me is some huge favor you’ve bestowed upon me? Do you feel aggrieved for not marrying a host of other wives?"
He never wanted to marry that many wives; he had only married Melanie Carpenter, and weren’t her circumstances special?
"I never wanted to marry that many wives; I can’t even handle you alone!" Adrian said aggrievedly.
"But deep down, you believe men should have multiple wives and concubines!"
"..."
"It’s wrong for men to have multiple wives and concubines!"
"..."
"Adrian, if you can’t correct your twisted views on marriage, I can’t live with a man like you!"
"Fine, I’ll change. Men should only have one wife. I swear, I’ll only marry you! Even if you pass away before me, you’ll be the only wife I ever have. How’s that?"
Sienna asked, "So, is it wrong for a man to have multiple wives and concubines, or not?"
"Wrong!"
Only then did Sienna smile. The heavy weight on Adrian’s heart finally lifted. He looked at Sienna and said, "I’m completely wrapped around your finger now. Whenever you get angry, I get scared too..."
"In our great Orienta, men who are a little afraid of their wives are the ones with bright futures!"
What kind of strange logic is that? Adrian thought.
"Adrian, you’re going to be a son-in-law of our great Orienta. You need to get rid of all those terrible habits of Abyanabad men, do you hear me?"
"Yes, dear!"
After Sienna became pregnant, her emotions came and went quickly. With a bit of coaxing from Adrian, she would forget what had just upset her. When Adrian saw she was happy again and no longer giving him the cold shoulder, his mood also improved.
The bodyguards watched, bewildered, as the couple who had seemed on the verge of breaking up moments before were now as close as ever.
...
With Arnold Cooper’s help, the Cooper Family’s media group broadcast Sabrina Johnson’s dark past around the clock.
At a young age, Sabrina had framed Sienna for theft, stolen other people’s boyfriends, and perfected the act of a pure white lotus flower. Even more explosive was the revelation that Sabrina’s birth mother was Yvette Harris. Yvette’s own sordid background was also dug up: an unmarried mother, a former prostitute, and a mistress. She had even, in her climb to the top, forced her husband’s original wife to commit suicide.
After reading today’s newspaper, Yvette angrily tore it to shreds. "These newspapers are spouting lies! I’ll sue them!"
"..."
"You all just wait! I won’t let any of you get away with this!"
Yvette called her lawyer, only to find that every reputable lawyer in Sileria City refused to take her case. Desperate, she went to find Master Leland directly.
She refused to believe those reporters weren’t afraid of Master Leland!
「The Leland Family」
Cynthia Leland happened to be at home. She seemed to have just woken up and was still in her pajamas. Cynthia looked at Yvette Harris, who had just walked in, with unconcealed disdain; she had also seen the newspaper reports about Yvette.
"Mrs. Harris, are you here to see my father?"
Yvette knew Cynthia was Master Leland’s only daughter, so she treated her with utmost respect. "Yes, I have a small matter I’d like to ask for Master Leland’s help with... Have you eaten yet, Miss? After I finish speaking with Master Leland, I can cook whatever you’d like."
Cynthia was unmoved, instead asking, "It wouldn’t be about those things published in the newspapers, would it?"
Yvette, filled with righteous indignation, replied, "Yes, it is! They’ve gone too far, just fabricating lies! Now, even the friends I used to be close with won’t associate with me... I absolutely will not let those people get away with this. I’ll make them understand that spreading lies can land them in jail!"
Cynthia chuckled at Yvette’s words. "I don’t think they were fabricating anything. Aren’t you exactly as the newspapers described?"
Yvette explained, "Miss, please don’t believe what the newspapers say! They’re just making things up. I’m innocent; how could I possibly do such things?"
Yvette said these words without batting an eyelid, as if she genuinely hadn’t done any of it.
Cynthia had seen plenty of women like Yvette, who would stop at nothing for power and status. She couldn’t be bothered to talk to her. Waving her hand dismissively, she said, "My dad is swimming. You can go find him over there!"
"..."
"If Master Leland is swimming, then I’ll wait a moment. Are you hungry, Miss? I can make you some breakfast."
"I’m not hungry. Just go find him!" Cynthia felt almost nauseous talking to this woman and wanted her gone immediately.
"Then I’ll go speak with the Master first, and come back to keep you company later, Miss," Yvette said respectfully.
Cynthia stood up, her attitude haughty. "I’m very busy. I don’t have time to chat with you!" With that, she walked off.
Yvette watched Cynthia’s retreating figure, the smile vanishing from her own face. She silently cursed Cynthia. Cynthia led such a chaotic private life; she’d go to a hotel and sleep with men from bars after just a few drinks. What right did she have to laugh at me?
"Hmph, who do you think you are!" Yvette muttered under her breath.
...
Yvette was a frequent visitor to the Leland residence, so she knew her way around.
"Master Leland..." Yvette walked over and greeted him respectfully.
Master Leland had just finished his swim. Yvette, quick to react, grabbed a bathrobe and helped him put it on. Seeing it was Yvette, Master Leland said nonchalantly, "You’re here? Is it about Sabrina’s situation? Don’t worry about Sabrina; I won’t let anything happen to her. Besides, she’s carrying my grandson."
With Sabrina carrying a child, Yvette wasn’t truly worried about her. She had come for her own matters. However, since Master Leland had brought it up, as Sabrina’s birth mother, Yvette had to put on a show of concern.
She immediately went along with his words, squeezing out a few tears. "...Master Leland, Sabrina is pregnant, after all. It’s not right for her to stay in the police station indefinitely. Do you think... could she be released on bail?"
"The case has blown up, and the higher-ups are watching. I can’t afford to be too blatant. However, I’ve already made arrangements so Sabrina will be well taken care of inside."
"That’s good to hear."
"..."
"I didn’t expect that Johnson girl to be so troublesome; she’s latched onto Sabrina and won’t let go..."
