Chapter 372: Chapter 373: Curly Wants to Send a Wedding Gift to His Godmother
"Master Leland, have you really fallen for Miss Johnson?" Master Leland’s assistant, Morris, noticing his lingering, lovestruck gaze, asked.
"Oh, sweet angel,
You truly are
God’s ultimate gift
To my weary soul—
A joyous return to youth..."
Master Leland, watching in the direction of Sabrina Johnson’s departure, softly recited a poem. It was a poem that perfectly expressed his feelings at that moment.
That beautiful young girl brought joy to his weary soul, a return to youth... Master Leland felt that his once boring life had suddenly become interesting.
「...」
Cloudscape Mansion.
Curly had returned from the beach. The previously calm manor erupted into chaos with her arrival; chickens scattered and dogs yelped in the yard as Curly chased chickens, ducks, and butterflies. Her laughter echoed everywhere.
"Curly, come over here and have some watermelon..." Sienna Johnson called out.
"Mom, I’m coming..."
Sweating profusely, Curly came running over, a chicken feather even stuck in her curly hair. Sienna was at a loss for words.
Curly started gnawing on the watermelon. If Pauline Briggs were to see her eating like this, she would surely scold her again.
"You’re a girl, don’t be as unruly as a boy," Sienna said as she wiped the sweat from her daughter’s forehead and removed the chicken feather from her hair.
Adrian Desmond didn’t mind. "It’s good for children to be a bit mischievous. It would be so dull if she were sullen all day."
"You just keep spoiling her," Sienna glared at Adrian Desmond.
"Curly is my precious girl; of course, I have to dote on her..." Adrian caressed his daughter’s curly hair with an adoring gaze.
"Daddy, you’re the best!" Curly gave Adrian a peck on the cheek and said sweetly.
"You ungrateful little rascal! So, your daddy is the best, is he? Well, in the future, if you have any problems, you can just go to him for everything."
"Daddy, my mom is jealous. Sigh, it’s such a burden being this popular..."
"You!" Sienna poked her daughter’s forehead lightly. The little girl, feigning distress with an "Ouch!", tumbled into Adrian’s arms.
Sienna’s pregnancy had stabilized. She was eating and sleeping well, and she’d also stopped having nightmares. She could now go to the company to handle some business, but Adrian forbade her from working overtime. On Saturdays and Sundays, they would come to Cloudscape Mansion to relax and recuperate.
For all these years, Sienna had never felt as contented and comfortable as she did now. The tension she had constantly lived with finally eased here.
If she could choose, she truly wished she could live out her days here... But there were still so many things waiting for her to do.
"Dad, give me some money."
"What do you need money for?"
"My godmother is getting married, so of course, I need to buy her a wedding gift..."
Sienna interjected, "Don’t you have plenty of gold, silver, and jewels in your jewelry box? Just pick one of those as a gift."
Curly shook her head vigorously, "No, no! That’s money I’m saving for my dowry; it can’t be touched!"
"Thinking about marriage already, at your age? For shame..." Sienna joked.
"It’ll be soon. I’m already four. I plan to get married when I’m eighteen."
Her father wasn’t pleased. "Why do you want to get married so early?"
"Because I don’t want to end up a spinster like Auntie Leanne."
"So, have you thought about whom you want to marry? George?" Sienna asked.
"I don’t like George!" Curly furrowed her little brows. Sienna, curious, asked, "Why? I think George is quite nice, and he likes you too, you know."
"Lots of boys like me. I can’t just like George because he likes me, can I? Daddy, don’t you agree?"
"Uh-huh, yes!"
"Daddy, can you give me more allowance every month?"
"My dear, isn’t your current allowance enough?"
Adrian lifted her and noticed a few chicken feathers stuck to her floral dress. He carefully picked them off.
Curly pouted. "Does anyone ever complain about having too much money?"
"How much do you want then?"
Just as Curly was about to speak, she caught her mother’s eye and lowered her voice. "Daddy, let’s discuss this privately."
"Curly, come quickly! The ducks have laid eggs. Let’s go to the lakeside to pick them up."
The lake ducks sometimes laid their eggs near the shore, so they had to be collected by hand. Curly especially loved wearing her little pink rain boots to go to the lakeside and collect duck eggs.
"Grandma, Curly’s coming! Wait for me..."
Like a little loach, Curly wriggled off Adrian’s lap and then, pattering on her short legs, ran towards Rose Collins. Rose Collins held a basket in one arm and took Curly’s hand with the other as they walked towards the lake.
"...Kiki is getting married. I wonder when my brother will get married. My mom is already sick with worry about my brother’s marriage. Sixth Master helped Kiki find a husband; perhaps he could introduce someone to my brother too..."
Something about her words felt off to Adrian.
"Are you complaining that I had Samuel Palmer approach Kiki?"
Sienna looked at Adrian and said, "Lucas Robertson has been in a terrible state since he heard Kiki is getting married. He’s been drinking himself into a stupor these past couple of days. I don’t even know how to console him..."
"Console him? Why? He didn’t cherish her when he had the chance. Who can he blame but himself?"
"If you hadn’t introduced Samuel Palmer to Kiki, perhaps Kiki and Lucas might have ended up together..."
"Still, from what I’ve seen, Samuel Palmer is a good man. He doesn’t have any messy romantic entanglements. Kiki marrying Samuel Palmer would be a good match."
Of course, Sienna wished Kiki could marry Lucas Robertson. But Lucas already had a fiancée, and now his ex-fiancée’s younger sister was pestering him. If she had to choose, she would choose Samuel Palmer as well, not Lucas.
Oh well, what’s done is done. Nothing she said would change anything now.
"You just concentrate on your pregnancy and don’t fret about these complicated matters," Adrian said, not wanting Sienna to worry about other people’s affairs.
"I was serious just now. If you know someone suitable, do introduce her to my brother."
"What type of girl does your brother prefer?"
"Naturally, someone virtuous, hardworking, capable, and filial."
"I’ll keep that in mind."
"I’m hungry again..."
"Didn’t you just eat?"
"There’s a Little Monster in my tummy. This Little Monster eats a lot; what can I do..."
Initially, Sienna couldn’t eat a thing, and Adrian fretted daily about how to get her to eat even a little. Now, Adrian was astounded by her appetite—Sienna was eating more than he did.
Adrian glanced at Sienna’s stomach, a peculiar look in his eyes. Her abdomen was still flat, showing no hint of a baby bump. She eats so much already; what will happen when the baby gets bigger...
"Adrian, I’m hungry..."
"What do you want to eat?"
"Meat!"
"Wait here, I’ll get it for you."
These days, their conversations rarely strayed from food. The phrases Sienna said most often to him were, "I’m hungry," and "I want to eat."
