Chapter 305: Chapter 306: Going Crazy Together
"Adrian, what the hell are you trying to do?"
"I know that pretty boy confessed his love to you, and your answer was that you needed to think about it..." Adrian forcefully pulled her into the darkness.
Upon hearing this news from his subordinate, Adrian could no longer remain calm.
What was there to think about? She must have already agreed in her heart, right?
The feeling of her vision dimming, suddenly plunging into darkness, was like being dropped into a dry well with Adrian as the venomous snake lurking at the bottom. It was an awful sensation.
"Ah..." Adrian suddenly grabbed Sienna’s hand, dragging her along as he strode quickly through the darkness. She couldn’t see a thing since he hadn’t turned on any lights, yet he seemed to navigate perfectly, taking large steps without bumping into anything.
"Adrian, what on earth are you doing? I’m getting angry!"
Adrian pushed open a door, and they stepped out. Moonlight spilled down, and Sienna blinked, her eyes adjusting to see shimmering water—it was a rectangular swimming pool. A few small yellow rubber ducks floated on its surface. What did he bring her here for?
"Let go!" Sienna jerked her arm forcefully, surprisingly managing to break free from Adrian’s grip.
They stood facing each other. Sienna rubbed her aching wrist where he had gripped it, her brow furrowed in displeasure.
He looked at her, his gaze unnervingly calm.
"What exactly do you think you’re doing?"
"I’m asking you, are you going to be with that pretty boy or not?" Betrayal was written plainly in Adrian’s eyes.
"My relationship with Noah Phillips is none of your business!"
She turned her back on him, refusing to meet his gaze. He darted to block her path again. Sienna averted her face, fixing her eyes on the rubber ducks in the pool, pointedly ignoring Adrian.
"...I can wait for you. I can wait forever, until you change your mind. But if you dare marry that pretty boy, I swear, you won’t walk out of here alive today!"
As he stared at her, Sienna saw a ruthless glint in his eyes, and a cold, murderous intent seemed to envelop them. He wasn’t joking.
"You’re insane!"
"I am insane! You drove me insane!"
Adrian had indeed gone mad. The thought of Sienna marrying Noah Phillips shattered what little rationality he had left. He couldn’t bear to imagine life without her. During the four years she was missing, he had lived like a walking corpse. He couldn’t accept the happiness, finally within his grasp, being so cruelly snatched away. Sienna belonged to him, and no one could take her from him.
"Sienna, tell me right now, are you really going to marry Noah Phillips?"
Noah Phillips wasn’t Kenneth Brown; Noah Phillips made Adrian feel a sense of crisis.
The look in Adrian’s eyes was unlike any she had seen before. Usually, no matter how domineering he was, his eyes held a glint of reason when he looked at her. But now, she only sensed a thick, murderous intent emanating from him, and she knew that the slightest misstep in her answer could mean her death.
She avoided his gaze. "If Noah Phillips and I could truly be together," she said, "I would never have considered marrying Kenneth Brown."
"Didn’t he agree to marry into your family?" he scoffed.
A flicker of sorrow crossed Sienna’s eyes. She crouched, picked up a rubber duck from the pool, and said mournfully,
"People can’t always control their own fates. It’s not simply a matter of Noah Phillips wanting to marry into my family for it to happen..."
"If that’s the case, why didn’t you reject him?"
Sienna gave a bitter smile, her gaze distant as she looked at the pool water. Her voice was low, like the chirping of insects on a summer night. "Noah Phillips and I met at the Orphanage. From my earliest memories, he’s the first person I can recall."
"..."
"There are so many children in an orphanage, but no parents... Adrian, do you have any idea how pitiful children born in an orphanage are, with no parents to protect them?"
"..."
"When Curly was born, so many people loved her, and Kiki doted on her. But I was sent to the Orphanage right after birth. If I soiled my diaper, Auntie Agatha at the Orphanage couldn’t change me immediately... You probably don’t know this, but all the infants there had terrible diaper rash because our diapers were only changed once daylight came and the staff started their shift."
"Why are you telling me all this?" Adrian only wanted to know one thing: whether she would marry that man, Noah Phillips.
"I want you to understand why Noah Phillips means so much to me."
"..."
"Noah Phillips is six years older than me. When I first came to the Orphanage, he was the one who looked after me. He changed my diapers, fed me, bathed me... He’d save any tasty food or fun toys for me. If other children bullied me, he protected me. When I was sad and cried, he comforted me..."
"..."
"To me, Noah Phillips was like a father, a mother, an older brother... He filled all the roles of the family I never had during my childhood."
"..."
"When I was little, my dream was to grow up and marry him... He searched for me for many years, and I waited for many years..."
Adrian couldn’t bear to hear any more. These memories didn’t include him. She was telling him that, in her heart, he couldn’t compare to Noah Phillips—that Noah Phillips was more important. She was telling him she wanted to marry Noah Phillips!
Suddenly, he lunged at her, shoving her into the swimming pool.
SPLASH! He seized her by the waist, and they both plunged into the water, sending a large spray into the air.
Underwater, Sienna’s thick hair fanned out like seaweed. Survival instinct urged her towards the surface, but Adrian, like a malevolent water spirit, latched onto her legs, dragging her down. She thrashed desperately, unable to break free and reach the air.
Her oxygen depleted steadily, her lungs aching from the lack of air. She flailed, trying to push him away. Suddenly, Adrian pulled her into an embrace and swam to the surface. "COUGH. COUGH." Sienna gasped for air like a beached fish, taking huge, ragged breaths.
"I don’t want to hear these stories about how you two depended on each other. I only ask you this: will you marry him?" He stared at her, his gaze dark and terrifying.
Sienna was deeply shaken. The scene brought back the terrifying memory of when Frederick Stewart and Sabrina Johnson had forced her to jump into the sea, leaving her to drift alone and fight for survival in the vast ocean.
"Looks like you still need a wake-up call!"
"Ah..."
A searing pain shot through her scalp as he forced her head under the water again.
Just as she felt she was about to suffocate, Adrian dragged her back to the surface, asking the same question, "Answer me, will you marry that man?"
"Adrian, you’re a madman!"
"Answer me!"
"So what if I want to marry him? It’s impossible for Noah Phillips and me to be together anyway!"
"..."
"Ever since we were separated after leaving the Orphanage, I could no longer be his bride..." Sienna sobbed, tears mixing with the water on her face.
