I wore a cute yellow maternity dress with a cut-out at the back, and I put my hair in a bun. It was a little hot so I didn’t want to leave it falling. I wore my pumps and caressed my bag. Rhaegar had insisted he go with me, but I wanted to speak to her alone, that’s why I refused. This was between her and me.

" Are you sure you want to go alone?" Kiyana asked. She knew how much my sister hated me.

" I'm sure. I'll be fine," I assured her. I sucked in a deep breath. The driver opened the car door for me, and I made my way to the restaurant. I entered the restaurant, and the first person I saw was Kaley. She was on the corner table, looking oblivious across the window. My sister looked different, her hair was straight and longer, she was thinner, and her skin glowed radiantly.

Her gaze snapped to me, and she smiled, standing up. She looked genuinely happy to see me.

" Nalya," she breathed, coming to hug me, but I took a cautious step back.

" Kaley, you wanted to see me," I said, taking a seat from her. The waiter came to ask what we'd be having. I quickly browsed through the menu and ordered a drink. He walked away, and Kaley exhaled.

" You're pregnant,"

" Yes,"

" Congratulations," she said.

" Why did you want to see me?" I went to the point. She was agitated and grabbed my hands over my table, but I snatched them back. Why was she acting unnatural? This woman abhorred me, but right now, there was no hate in her gaze.

" I wanted to ask for your forgiveness. I'm sorry for everything that happened," She sounded sincere, but I didn't let my guard down. She was the same Kaley who treated me like trash and was mean to me for years.

" Why now?" I asked, my voice unwavering and my eyes still on her.

" A lot has happened since you've been gone, and I missed you so much," her eyes were glassy now, but I didn't let her tears affect me.

" Why did you hate me?" I asked. Kaley treated me well when we were kids, but when we grew up as teens, she showed her resentment against me.

" I was jealous because Dad loved you more, and you were everyone's favorite. I blamed you for so much. Especially, when Mom and Dad started having problems," She said, wiping her tears quickly. Indeed, there was a time when my stepmom couldn't stand me, and fought with Dad every day because of me.

" I know it will take a lot of time and effort, but I want to have a better relationship with you, to build something. I want to write my wrongs by being a sister you deserve now," she said.

The waiter brought our drinks, but it was touched. My body was slightly shaking at the emotions I felt.

" Arlon William-"

" I tried to protect you as best as I could when you married him. I loved him, but only because he wanted you and not me. It wasn't real love," Kaley reached for my hand again, and this time, I didn't refute.

" Where's Dad and your mom?" My voice was croaked. I cleared my throat. Tears fell from Kaley's eyes, and my heart started to pound in my chest, this was bad. What happened to my Dad? She didn't say a word for a long time, and tears spilled from my eyes.

" Dad was depressed when you left, and started drinking more. He approached Arlon and backed out of the deal they made, but Arlon attacked and killed him, in rage, Mom attacked the rogue alpha and they killed her too," she cried, holding her lips so that a sob wouldn't escape her. I was crying too. That bastard killed them, and my heart hurt so much. I will never see my father’s face, and he will never call me a spoiled brat again.

" I buried them next to each other in the society. It was so hard for me, I wanted you so much," she sobbed. We stayed silent for a long time, crying.

' Nalya, you're distressed, what's going on?' My mate's urgent voice rang in my head. I couldn't communicate without bursting into tears. I inhaled and exhaled.

' I'm alright. I just learned the sad news of my parents' death,' I choked.

' Should I come?'

' No, no. I'll call you later, ' I told him.

Kaley and I calmed down when she spoke again.

" Arlon is determined to make you pay for leaving him and sent those men to sack your apartment. By then, he didn't know your connection to the Alpha Prince, and when he did it was too late," she explained.

" What do you mean?"

" The Prince sent his men to get Arlon but went into hiding, bringing me with him. He is determined to get you and make you pay," she said. I took my hands from her, and she looked pained by this.

" You're working for him to get me. That's why you are here, you want to trick me," I growled, fuming. She shook her head.

" Arlon wanted me to trick you so that when the time was right I should hand you over to him, but I refused. I hated him for killing our parents, and I will never let him harm you," she said, determined, looking into my eyes.

' She's telling the truth,' my wolf said.

" This isn't the first time I came to look for you, to warn you of his plan," She said. I squinted my eyes. Kaley wanted to warn me, " I did before he sent those men to your flat, but I couldn't reach you because something happened," her voice was low.

" What happened?" I asked softly.

" I found my mate,"

I nodded, that must be the time Layth was actively pursuing me. Kaley sighed and looked away from me. She knew that her mate wanted me. I wondered at the moment if she thought about Arlon's offer.

" I didn't even think for once to accept Arlon's offer even after I learned Alpha Thorn was in love with you," she said as if reading my mind, " You're my little sister, Nalya. I've failed you in so many ways. I want to redeem myself," She said with a slight smile. The Kaley before me was different from the one I knew back then.

“ Who hurt you last time?” I asked, thinking back at how the men found her on our border. She was hesitant to tell me.

“ Was it Arlon?” I probed. She slowly nodded her head. “ And his men. He found out I wasn’t going to help him, and snapped,” her voice was quiet.

“ I’m sorry,” I said quietly.

“ You have nothing to be sorry for. I’m the one who was in the wrong,”

" Layth and I are just friends now," I cleared, and she nodded.

" I know,"

Kaley told me about our Father's last days. He wanted more than anything to see me, to apologize for what he did. I forgave him, he loved me and cared for me as long as I can remember. If he hadn't done what he did, I would never have met Rhaegar.

Her phone buzzed, and she frowned, reading the text.

" Nalya, that's all I wanted to say,"

I stood up, and she did too. We walked out of the restaurant, and she escorted me to the car.

" Can I hug you and maybe get your phone number?" Kaley asked.

I contemplated but nodded. She hugged me for a long time, sniffing. When we broke apart, I gave her my number.

" Are you staying with Layth?" I asked, and she nodded, her cheeks a little flushed, " He's good, i-i," she stammered. I noticed she wasn't marked, were they still working on their relationship? It has been months, but I understand she needed time, and both did.

" Okay, bye," I was about to enter the car when I felt a contraction hit me, it was painful, and I gripped the door as I waited for it to subside, but it didn't. We still had a month before my due date, so why was I feeling this way?
