Ten Day Ultimatum
Chapter 400 Immediate Superior
“I…” Terrestrial Goat froze for a moment, then looked at Terrestrial Dog. “Don’t talk nonsense. How could I have another plan?”
Terrestrial Tiger frowned at this.
“Ole Black… what are you scheming?” he asked, stepping closer to Terrestrial Goat. “Even though I often feel like killing you, I know you don’t have ill intentions… but now… what are you thinking?”
“I…” Terrestrial Goat was completely at a loss for words. He hadn’t anticipated this turn of events before entering the room, so he had no prepared explanation.
“You planning to sell me out?” Terrestrial Tiger asked.
“Bullshit!” Terrestrial Goat snapped. “If I wanted to kill you, I’d do it openly in a fair fight. What does backstabbing and ratting you out amount to?”
“Then I don’t get it…” Terrestrial Tiger stared at Terrestrial Goat as if he were a criminal, making Terrestrial Goat feel uncomfortable all over. “What is it that you can’t tell me? What do you mean by {you won’t leave, and won’t let us rebel}?”
“I can’t say,” Terrestrial Goat replied. “This matter has hidden circumstances, so I really can’t speak of it.”
“So you punk really are hiding something from me…” Terrestrial Tiger furrowed his brow, leaning his broad face closer to Terrestrial Goat. “Does it have to do with Goat ge?”
Terrestrial Goat’s countenance turned solemn, and he said gravely, “Money-Draining Tiger, if you truly care about Goat ge, then you mustn’t cause any trouble now.”
“What…?”
“Goat ge has his own arrangements. Use that single brain cell of yours and ask yourself honestly—whose plan is more reliable, yours or Goat ge’s?”
“Are you f*cking kidding me…” Terrestrial Tiger’s whiskers twitched. “Do you even believe what you’re saying? If Goat ge really is a {Celestial}, how do you know his plan? And if he’s not a {Celestial}, how could he possibly make arrangements for himself?”
“One way or another, I just know,” Terrestrial Goat answered firmly. “If you two really intend to rebel, I’d rather settle it with my fists here and now.”
Terrestrial Tiger knew Terrestrial Goat’s temperament well; for him to say something like this meant he was dead serious.
Seeing Terrestrial Tiger fall silent, Terrestrial Goat turned to Terrestrial Dog. “Dog, are you really planning to side with Money-Draining Tiger?”
“I don’t care whose side I am…” Terrestrial Dog looked up and said, “What I have in mind is even more straightforward than Tiger’s. If a {Celestial} seat were forced open… wouldn’t that compel my ascension?"
The words left both Terrestrial Tiger and Terrestrial Goat frozen.
“Your target is {Celestial Dog}…?” Terrestrial Tiger asked.
“Exactly,” Terrestrial Dog replied, a lazy expression slowly spreading across his face. “Your so-called {rebellion} isn’t about anything else but killing your immediate superior, right? That way, we have a high probability of becoming a {Celestial}. And if anyone else gets in the way, we just eliminate the rest—”
Terrestrial Goat quickly interrupted, “Hey, if the {Earthly Branches massacre} isn’t properly dealt with, we’ll be facing more than just other {Earthly Branches}… What if you alert {White Tiger}?”
“Hah…” Terrestrial Dog suddenly revealed a knowing smile. “Exactly. Black Tortoise is responsible for {maintaining fairness}, Vermilion Bird is responsible for {presiding Earthly Branches}, and White Tiger is responsible for {mediating massacres}… But did either of you notice the catch?”
“What?” the two asked, turning to him.
“{White Tiger}… is he even on this train?”
“Huh?” Terrestrial Tiger blinked in surprise. “What do you mean? {White Tiger}… didn’t board?”
“Have any of you ever actually seen that legendary {White Tiger}?” Terrestrial Dog asked. “What does he look like? Which coach is he in right now?”
The two wanted to refute him, but thinking it over, it did seem odd.
If {fairness} was involved, whether it be a participant killing to seize {Dào} or triggering a life-staking wager with an Earthly Branch, Black Tortoise would descend from above to enforce impartiality.
If it involves {violations}, whether {Earthly Branches} breaking rules or {participants} trying to kill Mortal-grade {Earthly Branches} during Mortal-grade games, Vermilion Bird will surely appear to deliver justice.
As for {Earthly Branches massacres}, perhaps because {Earthly Branches} value their own lives more than any participant, the most severe incidents on this train so far have never exceeded {scuffles}.
As a result, {White Tiger} remained unseen for quite some time.
But then again… if {White Tiger} isn’t on the train, wouldn’t that put the {Earthly Branches} in extreme danger?
“I think you’ve been infected by Money-Draining Tiger…” Terrestrial Goat remarked. “Just because you haven’t seen him doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist. You should know that even if you’re lucky and can go head-to-head with {Celestial-grades}, you absolutely cannot win against the {Sacred Guardians}. Even if there’s only a one-percent chance of provoking the {White Tiger}, I absolutely would not take that risk.”
“Agreed…” Terrestrial Tiger nodded. “If we really want to oppose the {Sacred Guardians}… the three of us alone won’t be enough. We’ll need much stronger allies—”
“Hey! What do you mean, {the three of us}? When did I agree to join?” Terrestrial Goat interjected. “Didn’t you hear what I just said? Goat ge has a plan in place. Don’t go making rash decisions on your own!”
Terrestrial Tiger blinked, then looked up at Terrestrial Goat.
“What are you looking at me for?”
A sharp canine glinted as he suddenly laughed. “Ole Black, I just thought of something really interesting.”
“What?”
“Since you keep saying {Goat ge has a plan in place}, that means, in theory, he must have told you something before becoming {Celestial Goat}, right?”
“Yes,” Terrestrial Goat nodded.
“We both know what kind of person Goat ge is… and I don’t think I’m any worse than you,” Terrestrial Tiger continued.
“What do you mean?” Terrestrial Goat asked.
“I mean… if what you said is true, and everything happening now is part of Goat ge’s plan, but he deliberately didn’t tell me… then maybe… my {rebellion} is part of his plan too?”
Hearing this, Terrestrial Goat and Terrestrial Dog both widened their eyes.
Indeed, to have others’ will dancing at his fingertips—that’s precisely his style.
“Goat ge knows I’m hot-headed,” Terrestrial Tiger said, lifting his gaze to Terrestrial Goat. “So the moment I find out he didn’t become {Celestial Goat}, I’ll definitely go ask {Celestial Dragon} directly. If I really go all out, who knows? I could turn this whole train into a mess… He knows you and I are sworn enemies, and the more you try to stop me, the more rebellious I get. That’s why… he only told you.”
“Ludicrous…” Terrestrial Goat murmured, moving his lips slightly. Though he spoke the words of denial, deep down he felt this was exactly White Goat’s true plan.
“Isn’t this the perfect opportunity now?” Terrestrial Tiger grinned. “I don’t care what Goat ge told you… I’m going to start my own plan.”
“So you’re going to kill your immediate superior, {Celestial Tiger}?” Terrestrial Dog asked.
“Not necessarily…” Terrestrial Tiger’s eyes darkened. “My ultimate target isn’t my immediate superior… but my superior’s superior.”
“You mean Celestial—” Terrestrial Dog didn’t finish, swallowing nervously. In a hushed voice, he asked, “Are you out of your mind? You’re saying your {rebellion}… targets {Dragon}?!”
“Otherwise, what sort of {rebellion} would it be?” Terrestrial Tiger gave a crooked grin.
