Chapter 160: The Fightback!
Chapter 160: The Fightback!
Jason went to a different tent with Shantel, she was calm and this told Jason that they had been in this situation before.
That would explain why A wasn’t freaking out even though the urgency of the situation called for it. Jason was taken and noticed that the camp was technically empty as the men had gone forward to engage the zombies.
"Are you okay?" Jason asked as Shantel stopped in her tracks and Shantel looked over her shoulder to establish eye contact with Jason.
"I’m fine but what were you doing outside?" Shantel asked but Jason didn’t understand what she was implying.
"I was getting fresh air or is that not allowed?" Jason responded but he could tell by her suspicious gaze that she didn’t believe him.
"If you think I did something, you can come out and say it," Jason said.
He wasn’t scared to show her that he knew that she didn’t believe him and frankly, Jason didn’t care because there wasn’t much she could do in their current situation.
"Nothing, I just found it strange," Shantel said and despite saying this, she still wasn’t moving.
Jason took note of this but didn’t make it apparent as he walked past her.
"Where are you taking me?" Jason asked and Shantel sighed the moment he said this.
"I want to stitch you up," She reminded him, grabbing him by the hand and leading him into the tent in front of them.
Jason noticed it was a lot different from most of the other tents not to mention bigger, this could serve as their ward.
Shantel entered first with Jason following behind her, he saw multiple beds but it was filled with sick people however they seemed to be getting better.
Jason realized that if the zombies got past the men fighting them then these people would be sitting ducks. Jason wondered why Shantel brought him and he understood why she hesitated as they were at his mercy.
There was no doubt that Jason was a trained killer or at least that is how he was perceived by everyone here.
"What is going on here?" Jason asked, looking around, the room was not the most hygienic as the clash of body odours made the zombie stench smell like deodorant or was it because his nose had adjusted to rotting flesh?
"This is where we keep the sick, I brought you here so you will understand what we stand to lose," Shantel said.
She knew that Jason must be something special, she had spent some time with him and knew that he wasn’t like the average man wandering the world right now.
"Nothing will happen, Clementine and Franklin will make sure of that," Jason reassured her but Shantel wasn’t convinced.
She knew how these things went because all it would take for them to lose it all was a single mistake and with the cover of darkness, there was a high chance that more zombies might come to the camp unnoticed due to the gunfire.
Jason looked at the sick and realized that these people might have to take a last stand because of what he saw on his radar.
Jason knew that these people didn’t have nearly enough weapons because if these zombies found their way here in such numbers.
There was a high possibility that there were others around and the gunfire was a beacon to bring them here.
Shantel fixed up his wound and realized that Jason never had any ill intentions towards them.
The look in his eyes was gentle but at the same time, they were fierce.
"How does that feel?" Shantel asked.
"I feel like a brand new man, thank you, Shantel," Jaosn showed his gratitude.
He looked around more times but he couldn’t see Glenn, Glenn should be here so why wasn’t he?
"Are you looking for your friend?" Shantel asked to which Jason nodded to affirm this.
"Your friend is doing good, he has woken up," Shantel said and she could tell the relief that this brought Jason; his entire body relaxing.
"That is good," Jason responded.
"W-What is happening?" An elderly woman asked and before Shantel could respond, Jason interrupted.
"What is happening? The zombies have found the camp," Jason said and the murmurs and panic crawled into the room.
This wasn’t the approach that Shantel wanted to take because it would do more harm than good.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Shantel barked but Jason shoved her aside.
"I will not lie to any of you but there is a high chance that this camp wouldn’t exist by sunrise. All your family and loved ones will be gone," Jason continued to instil fear and panic into their hearts but there had to be a reason for this.
[[Group mental condition: fear]]
Jason smirked upon establishing this as it would allow him to drive home his point.
This was one of the things that he didn’t have access to before thanks to Chronos but now, he was in control of everything.
He could see how others felt in black and blue, this made it harder for them to lie to him and Jason could pick up on their emotional cues without much fuss.
This helped him in manipulating Shantel as well, Jason was becoming a force of nature.
"But there is a chance to take back what these fucking zombies have taken from you all! Are you going to be scared for the rest of your life? If you’re going to die, you might as well die fighting or you can stay here and die," Jason tried his best to motivate them.
The best part of these speeches was that the listeners were oftentimes torn down before being built right back up, this gave them an unnatural spike in adrenaline.
"I will help you all reclaim what you have lost in this new world, your dignity..." Jason said and this was the end of his speech.
Shantel was surprised, she didn’t expect this because even she was feeling pumped.
She knew that the men had created a rule to protect the women because they were crucial in repopulation but this was also because they were women.
Jason, however, knew this had to change, there was no such thing as gender roles anymore.
It was survival of the fittest, the weak will die or be at the mercy of the strong.
"I-I don’t want to die like a coward..." An elderly man barked, he got up from his bed, knees wobbly as he could barely stand straight but he wanted to take a stand.
One at a time, they began to get up on their feet and this was what worried Shantel.
There was no reason for Jason’s speech to have such an effect, especially in such a dire situation yet it did.
"I will leave them to you, Shantel," Jason said but before he left, he asked her where Glenn was and she told him.
Jason gave Shantel the leadership role, they had to protect their home and this was the only way, they had to do it themselves and this was on the off chance that the zombies did manage to slip through.
-
Clementine and Franklin were fighting alongside the others, they were preserving their bullets as much as they could.
Franklin kept one eye on these people and the fact that they had encountered a zombie that far surpassed them, they were cautious about the zombies as well.
If it appeared here, then there was nothing that was going to save them.
Clementine was showing her military expertise, she was striking them with the dagger in her hand.
Impaling their head and watching their bodies drop to the ground.
A noticed this and was amazed by how efficiently they fought, it was no wonder they made it out of the hospital alive. This act alone was nothing short of miraculous and he hoped that this would come in handy right now.
However, he noticed something strange and that was Clementine building a wall of corpses, Franklin was piling them on top of one another.
A wanted to know why they were doing what they were doing but he didn’t have enough time to do this. He had to focus on what was happening right now.
The darkness was making it hard for them to fight efficiently but something told Clementine that these zombies were the least of her worries.
"That is enough Franklin," Clementine said and Franklin stopped.
Franklin was as clueless as A on what Clementine was doing, he had no idea what it was she was doing but he trusted her. Franklin knew there was nothing to question, whatever Clementine wanted or needed to do, he would make it happen.
They could have easily bailed but Franklin knew that they needed these people.
After what they did at the hospital, Franklin accepted that he didn’t know a lot of things and could learn a thing or two from these two.
A primal growling sound echoed and everyone’s attention shifted in that direction.
"What the hell was that?" Franklin asked and Clementine clenched her teeth as she muttered under her breath.
"It’s a bear,"
