Chapter 274: Poison Root OR Taro
Chapter 274: Poison Root OR Taro
Both of their expressions were extremely grave. The Half beastman Warrior didn’t dare delay, immediately nodding and entering the cave to report.
A moment later, he came jogging out. "The witch will see you."
The two exchanged a glance, thanked the Half beastman Warrior, and walked straight into the cave.
The witch and the Clan Leader were still sitting in their previous spots. They looked at the pair walking into the cave, a little puzzled. "Why are you back?"
Yuan Lang glanced at Wu Yue. She stepped forward and handed the taro she’d previously shown Yuan Lang to the witch. "Witch, please take a look at this."
Wu Yue had thought the witch wouldn’t recognize it, but to her surprise, the witch frowned at the taro in her hand. "Poison root? Why would you bring this back into the tribe?"
’Poison root?’
Wu Yue and Yuan Lang exchanged a glance. It seemed the witch recognized this after all.
Wu Yue placed the taro on the ground and said, "Witch, this taro is the reason Yuan Lang and I came to see you and the Clan Leader. It’s something new we discovered during the last communal gathering."
The witch’s expression instantly darkened. "Nonsense. This is poison root, of course I know what it is. Its sap causes countless red bumps on the skin that are unbearably painful and itchy.
And you’re telling me this is food?"
Seeing the witch’s anger, the Clan Leader frowned at the two outstanding young members of their tribe. "You clearly don’t know how dangerous this poison root is. A long time ago, a tribesman saw a wild boar eating it, so he dug up a couple and brought them back.
But after he ate it, he couldn’t breathe, as if his throat were being squeezed shut. If the witch hadn’t achieved a timely breakthrough and used her witch power to save him, he would have died long ago."
The two elders looked grave, and they clearly weren’t faking it. But Wu Yue knew exactly what caused the symptoms they were describing.
She then looked to Yuan Lang beside her and said, "Actually, Yuan Lang and I have eaten this taro many times, and we never experienced the symptoms you’re talking about."
Seeing their eyes full of doubt, she smiled. "When Yuan Lang and I ate it, we either roasted it in the fire or boiled it in water.
And what we smeared on those Collection Captains last time was the juice from a raw taro. That part is definitely poisonous."
Wu Yue’s words made the two not-so-young leaders of the tribe roll their eyes in unison.
’We already knew you two brats were responsible, but now that you’ve just come right out and admitted it, are we supposed to not punish you? Or... not punish you?’
Having already made up their minds, the two simply pretended a sudden gust of wind had prevented them from hearing what had just been said.
Their eyes lit up as they looked at the pair and asked, "You’ve really eaten it?"
Yuan Lang and Wu Yue nodded in unison. "We really have."
Seeing that a small fire pit was still lit in the witch’s cave, Wu Yue took a whole taro from her woven bag and tossed it in. "This taro cooks very quickly. You and the Clan Leader will see for yourselves in a moment."
The two leaders nodded and began to ask the pair about how they first discovered the taro. After confirming that the taro from the two locations they mentioned was the same, their anticipation for the little thing in the fire pit grew.
After a while, a fresh fragrance began to waft from the fire pit. The smell was very unique, but it was so enticing it made one’s mouth water.
Of course, Wu Yue wasn’t about to do such manual labor. She shot Yuan Lang a look. ’Go on, buddy. It’s your time to shine.’
Yuan Lang gave her an amused look. ’What’s there to show off about just pulling a taro from the fire? If the little female is afraid of getting burned, she should just say so.’
