Chapter 259: The Companion Who Became a Ball
Chapter 259: The Companion Who Became a Ball
The Snow Tiger Tribe Leader gazed at the young woman he hadn’t seen in some time, his heart filled with emotion. He had originally let Wu Yue stay because of a single Beast Crystal.
He had assumed the young woman wouldn’t survive more than a few days and thus wouldn’t waste much food, but who would have thought it would lead to such a huge gain?
"Your trip to the Black Wolf Tribe’s territory was truly worthwhile. Not only did you bring back a cure for festering wounds, but more importantly, you even discovered precious salt."
He said, a hint of awe in his voice.
Who could have imagined that so many Salt Crystal Stones would exist in a cavern like that?
Wu Yue grinned. "This is all thanks to everyone’s hard work."
After seeing the salt crystal mine their tribe members had spoken of and tasting the rich flavor of salt for themselves, the Beastman Warriors who had dug all the way from the tribe were ecstatic.
They had no mind to rest. Howling with excitement, they immediately began hauling the Salt Crystal Stones.
Wu Yue watched, dumbfounded, as they packed the Salt Crystal Stones into familiar-looking bamboo bags.
’Has Grandma Hua Shu’s bamboo bag business already gotten the official seal of approval?’
This time, Wu Yue packed her belongings and returned to the tribe with the Beastman Warriors.
Seeing the familiar sights of the Snow Tiger Tribe, she felt the anxiety she’d been carrying instantly melt away.
’So I’ve already come to think of this place as my home?’
The sight of tall, sturdy Beastman Warriors carrying numerous items into the Pure Humans’ living quarters naturally drew a crowd of onlookers.
Wu Yue’s small house looked just the same, completely unchanged, though her neighbors had all moved into new homes.
Seeing that she was back, everyone greeted her with great enthusiasm.
Wu Yue pushed open her small courtyard gate and started walking toward the house, her body relaxing, but Yuan Lang suddenly reached out and stopped her. In a swift motion, he spun around and shielded her with his body.
The Beastman’s low, magnetic voice turned cold. "There’s something inside."
Wu Yue’s body tensed instantly. ’Something inside?’
"What is it?"
Yuan Lang frowned. "You stay here. If there’s any danger, run outside immediately and don’t stop. I’ll go in and check."
With that, he handed the small basket he was carrying to Wu Yue and walked straight toward the cottage door.
Before the Beastman’s large, well-defined hand could even touch the door, a cheerful voice rang out from inside. "Yue, you’re back!"
Without even getting a clear look at who was there, the person inside lunged forward.
But the Beastman simply stuck out a foot, stopping them just inside the doorway.
Hearing Qingcao’s voice, Wu Yue instantly let out a sigh of relief. She looked at Yuan Lang and said, "It’s Qingcao. She’s not a ’thing’."
The words had barely left her mouth when she realized it sounded like she was insulting someone.
Meanwhile, Qingcao was finally struggling back to her feet. Standing just inside the doorway, she craned her neck and beamed at Wu Yue.
Delighted to see her friend again, Wu Yue tossed the basket to a nearby Beastman Warrior and trotted down the steps.
But...
’Is this person in front of me, who’s as round as a ball, really Qingcao?’
Wu Yue stared at the spare tire jiggling around Qingcao’s midsection, her idealized image of her friend shattering a little.
’So, is the follow-up to the saying "beautiful faces are a dime a dozen" that "bouncing spare tires are, too"?’
"Qingcao, can you please tell me how you, of all people, who barely gets to eat any meat, managed to turn yourself into... this... in such a short amount of time?"
Qingcao glanced shyly at Yuan Lang, who was standing behind Wu Yue, before mumbling, "Yue, I’m not fat. I just accidentally ate a poisonous grass that was mixed in with the wild vegetables I gathered last time, and... well, this happened."
