Surviving in the Beast World with a System

Chapter 258: Only Lacking a Reason

Chapter 258: Only Lacking a Reason

"When we get back, let’s tell the witch and the Clan Leader about curing the meat. They can arrange for the rest."

The two of them had already arrived at the place they had slept before. Wu Yue nodded and sat down in a nearby grass nest. "If possible, it would be best to teach every member of the tribe."

But Yuan Lang just smiled and shook his head. "We probably won’t teach every tribe member. The method would spread too easily."

Wu Yue raised an eyebrow, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him. "But they don’t have this much salt."

Yuan Lang paused for a moment, then laughed as well.

It was true. Right now, salt was the most precious thing in the Polar Forest, something even food couldn’t be traded for.

Yuan Lang tore the cured meat in his hands into a few long, thin strips, then stuffed them into an open bamboo tube nearby.

Wu Yue frowned. "There isn’t much water left. We can just eat it as is."

But Yuan Lang only gave her a smiling glance. A moment later, he took the cured meat out of the tube, tore it into strips even thinner than a finger, and placed them directly in Wu Yue’s hand. "Hurry up and eat."

As for himself, he got up and carried the water tube over to the Beastman Warriors who were excitedly gathered around their own cured meat. "Rinse it in the water before you eat."

The Beastman Warriors looked at him, their eyes sparkling. "Yuan Lang, food cured with salt can actually be stored for so long! Now that we have so much salt, does this mean we can store lots and lots of food?"

"Yeah, yeah! We can hunt lots and lots of beasts, then cure them with salt. That way, when winter comes, we won’t have to worry about running out of food and starving to death!"

Looking at the Beastmen’s eager expressions, Yuan Lang’s heart couldn’t help but feel a pang of bittersweet emotion. "If you know that, then why are you still sitting here? Finish your food and get to work. If we dig through the cave sooner, will we still have to worry about food before the rainy season?"

Hearing this, the tribesmen instantly shifted back into their beast forms. After stuffing the cured meat into their mouths, they bolted toward the cave.

"Brothers, what are you waiting for? Let’s go dig!"

A cloud of dust settled. Standing not far away, Wu Yue looked at Yuan Lang’s handsome face, now covered in black dust, and finally couldn’t stop herself from letting out an unladylike snort of laughter.

Yuan Lang wiped a layer of dark dust from his face, feeling completely exasperated.

At that moment, behind a rack of meat, Teng Qian and Teng Kun were secretly gnawing on their own meat while watching the two outside.

"Little brother, don’t you think the sight of the Boss and Yue standing together looks exactly like a scene from one of those old storybooks? You know, the part where the scholar and the young lady gaze into each other’s eyes."

Teng Kun gobbled down the last piece of meat in his hand in one bite. He then stood up and looked at his older brother. "I never thought you’d be the type to read those kinds of storybooks, big brother. Careful, or I’ll go tattle on you to the General."

Teng Qian was dumbfounded. "Damn, what the hell did I do? Isn’t it a bit low to be bringing up old dirt now?"

Teng Kun said with a straight face, "But a lot of the time, the General is just looking for a reason to punish you."

Teng Qian: "Ouch, that stings, bro!"

As the two were talking, a cheer of suppressed excitement suddenly erupted from the cave. "We broke through! We broke through! We can move all these Salt Crystal Stones back to the tribe now!"

Wu Yue and Yuan Lang turned and walked toward the cave.

The Beastman Warriors who had just gone in were now coming out of the cave one after another. Surprisingly, the last ones to emerge were the Clan Leader and some middle-aged Beastman Warriors.

"Clan Leader, you came too?"
