Chapter 970 - 969: Seizure
The staff member noticed Mr. Song’s intense gaze and understood that he was dissatisfied with her performance. Without hesitation, she quickly said, "These are all lies, I didn’t take money from both parties."
"Didn’t you?" The employee brought by Xu Ke sneered and said, "Do you want me to play our voice message and show our transfer records to Mr. Song, so he can see who’s really lying here?"
The mention of recordings made the staff member panic.
Mr. Song stood still, watching the staff, waiting for her explanation. She was caught in the middle under the gaze of both sides, causing her mind to go blank for a moment. In the next instant, her brain raced, attempting to find a satisfactory answer for Mr. Song.
"Why are you silent now? Is what he’s saying true or not?" Mr. Song asked impatiently, frowning.
The staff hurriedly replied, "They’re only telling part of the truth. Although they did pay a deposit, it wasn’t as much as yours, so I placed you ahead. So, now, you have the rights to the party venue," she said flatteringly to Mr. Song.
"So you’re saying just because they offered a higher price, you bumped us off our reserved spot? Is that how business should be done? Aren’t you ashamed?" Xu Ke’s employee was infuriated by the staff member’s words, his temper swelling like a blowfish.
"That’s the way it is, the highest bidder wins? If there’s anything wrong, it’s on you. If you offered a higher deposit, I wouldn’t have let someone else have the venue after you. So if there’s a fault, it’s yours. It’s your own poverty to blame, not others," the staff member loudly declared, staring at Xu Ke and his team.
Her attitude was starkly different from how she treated Mr. Song, almost to an extreme.
"Do you know your words are begging for a beating? Don’t think just because you’re a woman, I won’t hit you. If you push me, I won’t spare you," threatened Xu Ke’s employee.
His intense agitation caused him to move considerably, revealing a tattoo hidden under his sleeve—a menacing ghost with blood-red eyes—which startled the staff member, drawing her closer to Mr. Song.
Though Mr. Song disliked the staff member’s actions, he couldn’t tolerate someone hitting a woman before him, especially since she was on his side for whatever reason. Any harm to her would equate to an affront to his dignity.
Thus, Mr. Song intervened and shielded the staff member, "What do you mean by this? Are you intending to defend this untrustworthy woman?"
"Let’s just end this matter here. I’ll have her return your deposit and offer you an extra compensation. You can take it and find another venue to enjoy. This place is already occupied by us today," Mr. Song said, stuffing the money into Xu Ke’s hand, having noticed earlier that these people would often defer to Xu Ke, indicating he was their Boss.
His assumption was correct; Xu Ke was indeed their boss.
With the card forcibly placed in his hand, Xu Ke exhibited a playful expression, as it was his first time in Ning City someone offered him money like this. What is this, treating him like a pauper?
Looking at Xu Ke twirling the card in his hand without intending to leave, Mr. Song finally comprehended. "The card’s password is six zeros. I don’t remember the exact amount, but it’s about ten thousand yuan," Mr. Song said.
"Do you think I care about your ten thousand?" Xu Ke retorted, flipping the card through his fingers at nearly the speed of light.
"I don’t lack ten thousand dollars. Today is the first team-building event for my employees. We made the reservation and paid the deposit. No matter the reason, the venue should be ours. That your arrival is due to her negligence isn’t our problem. We shouldn’t bear her mistake," Xu Ke’s calm voice entwined with the card slicing through the air, instilling a sense of dread.
"Stop the nonsense. We’ve arrived today, and by your narrative, we’re innocent. We want this venue, but clearly, it’s too cramped. What will it take for you to yield this place? If ten thousand isn’t enough, how much do you want?" demanded someone from Song’s entourage, impatience marking his face.
"It’s not about money. One side has to back down, and it won’t be us. It’s simple—this venue is ours today, no matter who arrives," Xu Ke declared as he ceased spinning the card, expressionlessly eyeing the group.
"Don’t be ungrateful. Our Song is being generous, but I’d kick you guys out right away. I don’t care about reservations; the staff confirmed it’s ours tonight. If unhappy, deal with the boss. Even then, the boss would bow to Mr. Song. Being smart, you’d take the money and vanish, lest you embarrass yourself," one of the men said arrogantly.
The man’s confidence influenced the staff member, prompting her to emerge from behind Mr. Song, looking at Xu Ke’s group with disbelief, and protested, "Can’t you just stop causing trouble?"
