Chapter 967 - 966: Getting Something for Nothing
Chapter 967 - 966: Getting Something for Nothing
The two solutions proposed by Xu Ke, they hardly needed to think to know which one to choose.
It’s just that 10 million is really too much. If they stay here to work, who knows how much a month’s salary is here? How many years will it take for these people to pay it off, probably a lifetime, right? If that’s the case, they might as well be let go to make a living outside. At least if they work on their own, they could save it up in just a few years, much faster than staying here.
Do they really have to sacrifice a lifetime here for that 10 million? This deal seems too unprofitable.
"If we stay here, how long will it take to pay off this debt?" someone on the other side couldn’t help but ask.
Xu Ke opened his eyes and glanced at the man who spoke, looking at him with a half-smile as he said, "Does it matter? Or do you think you have any other choice?"
"If you just want the remaining 200 million, why not let us go and make money ourselves? Wouldn’t that be faster than staying here?" the man across still unwillingly said. He didn’t want his life to be wasted here; after all, he was destined to conquer the stars and the sea.
"Let you work on your own? Out of my sight, hoping that your conscience, which might not even exist, will drive you to pay back? Do I look like a fool? Today, you have two choices: either stay and work for me, obey my commands from now on, or go die. If you can’t stand losing your freedom, can’t stand earning little, then just go die. Maybe in your next life, if you’re reincarnated into a wealthy family, your debt to me could be completely wiped out. Wouldn’t that be great?"
If Xu Ke appeared too negotiable, it would be easy for them to take advantage. Now with Xu Ke showing such a tough attitude, their attitude softened immediately.
Compared to the vague promise of a next life, they preferred to grab hold of this life. Besides, this is an era of technological development; if they wanted to escape, how could a mere casino stop them? For now, they would just agree verbally to get through this ordeal, and plan their escape later.
Those ideas were quite clever. Xu Ke chuckled lightly, seeing through their schemes without saying a word, pretending to know nothing. He didn’t intervene until everyone had signed the IOUs. Xu Ke held all the notes, flipping through them, until he was sure there were no issues. Then he chuckled softly.
"Since the IOUs are signed, give them some training and let them start working," Xu Ke ordered.
"Oh, right, confiscate all their electronic devices, IDs, passports, anything they have. Everyone must be watched; not a single one should escape. If one escapes, one of you will take their place. Understand?" Xu Ke told the casino staff standing behind him.
"If there’s anything you need done, you can assign it to them. I think if a person is tired enough, they won’t have the time or energy for other thoughts." As Xu Ke was leaving, he glanced at the casino staff and said.
People who were dissatisfied before quickly understood, and smiles appeared on their faces.
At this point, no one was a fool. They realized Xu Ke didn’t actually want the 200 million; he just wanted them as free labor, wanted to exploit them. This realization infuriated them, and compared to their future, they no longer feared Xu Ke as much.
"Are you playing us?"
"What if I am? Oh, and thanks for the 300 million. The casino is temporarily closed for a day; I’m treating everyone to an outing," Xu Ke, holding the IOUs, announced to the casino employees.
Upon hearing this, everyone became excited. Their casino had never organized a group outing before, and they didn’t expect this day to come. Everyone who heard the news was overjoyed.
Compared to Xu Ke’s side’s happiness, the people who had been extorted for 300 million and signed IOUs for another 200 million had faces as unpleasant as if they had swallowed flies, each expression uglier than the last.
"What you’re doing is really too much."
"Too much? Are we the ones who asked you to come and mess up our business? When outclassed, you should admit defeat." Xu Ke shook the IOUs in his hand and said.
"We thought if we stepped back, you would too, but we didn’t expect you to be so ruthless. We admitted defeat, but you still want to eliminate us. Since you don’t intend to give us a way out, don’t blame us," the man clenched his fists, fire burning in his eyes as if he could charge over at any moment.
"If you want to make a move, go ahead. Stop mumbling. My time is precious, and I don’t intend to waste it on someone like you." Xu Ke spoke with undisguised contempt, making anyone feel embarrassed.
Fuelled with rage, after seeing Xu Ke’s expression, they couldn’t control themselves and immediately lost their composure. "You may be tough, but even the toughest fighter is no match for so many hands. No matter how tough you are, you’re still one person. We have so many brothers here; if we decide to do something to you, do you think you can escape?"
"What do you mean? Aren’t we people? We’re standing right here. Do you think so few of you can hurt our Boss? Who do you think you’re looking down on?" someone on Xu Ke’s side retorted.
"Do you have to go to such extremes?" The man ignored Xu Ke’s subordinates and looked directly at Xu Ke.
"I think I’ve been merciful enough, at least I’ve left you alive," Xu Ke replied without any expression, looking directly at the person in front of him.
"I get your point. If that’s how you feel, then I don’t think there’s any need to talk further." Having said that, the man rushed towards Xu Ke. The people behind him seemed to have received a signal and lunged forward as well. The fight broke out in an instant.
