Chapter 954 - 953: Rules
Chapter 954 - 953: Rules
They never expected Xu Ke to have such a tough attitude, which was completely inconsistent with the intelligence they had received, almost like dealing with two different people.
Indeed, they had gathered intelligence about Xu Ke long before his arrival.
Before Xu Ke came to take over, the casino business was run collectively by Lu Xun and his people. Consequently, there were five different positions within the casino; on the surface, they still seemed united, but practically, behind every person managing the casino stood a master.
Although the honest man had secretly helped Xu Ke for his own benefit, now that Xu Ke touched his interests, he naturally opposed him. The honest man who secretly helped Xu Ke thinks this way, let alone those who never liked Xu Ke. Therefore, before Xu Ke’s arrival, information about him was almost a must-read for the casino’s upper management.
Based on the various pieces of intelligence, they initially thought this operation would be particularly smooth and had complete confidence in it, yet they didn’t expect Xu Ke to be such a tough opponent. This wave from Xu Ke was truly unexpected for them.
All the preparations they made beforehand proved useless; their originally held power of speech was suddenly seized by Xu Ke, making their position awkward, a feat by one person that created such an awkward situation for many. For the first time in their lives, they found themselves at a loss for words.
"Now, introduce the situation in the casino to me." Xu Ke spoke when he saw they had nothing to say.
Although they were not convinced by Xu Ke, their initial positions had already been dismantled by him; trying to re-establish them wouldn’t be easy. Moreover, Xu Ke, though newly appointed, had Bear behind him; they say respect the Buddha for the monk’s sake. For Bear’s sake, they couldn’t make a scene in such a setting.
They could hinder Xu Ke clandestinely, but couldn’t overly disrupt publicly.
For this reason, although the start of the meeting was not flawless, it later proceeded normally and smoothly. Xu Ke listened to everyone’s introductions and reports with closed eyes, one hand on the table tapping with his forefinger rhythmically, stopping only to inquire when encountering issues.
Xu Ke’s questions always hit the nail on the head, directly pointing to the core, which made those who initially underestimated him slowly grow serious and focused without realizing. Their nerves were taut like a string, while Xu Ke was the one plucking it.
Until the meeting ended, Xu Ke left them in the room while he went to familiarize himself with the environment, only then did those seated realize that unknowingly, Xu Ke had led their thoughts, making them cooperate with his work.
During a short half-day, Xu Ke continually refreshed their impression of him, while their vigilance towards him grew. However, among them, a few had different thoughts, but whatever they thought internally, nothing showed on their faces.
When Xu Ke entered the casino, it was still bright outside; by the time he came out of that room, the sky had dimmed slightly. Unnoticed, it reached afternoon, seemingly close to dinner time.
The downstairs casino began setting up dinner according to the time, along with dessert and drinks. The dinner was quite varied, featuring both Chinese and Western cuisine; if one disliked the pre-arranged dinner, they could order at fixed windows, albeit at higher prices—a choice for either wealthy individuals or those lucky in gambling who won a few rounds.
Xu Ke even saw two familiar faces; none other than Tangtang and Guoguo’s parents. Seeing these irritating faces reminded Xu Ke of what he had just forgotten.
Such matters were particularly simple for Xu Ke now; he merely needed to give an order, and naturally, someone would handle it. Hence, he instructed those around him.
"This..." The person in charge felt awkward; just arriving and already ordering to bind people and settle debts seemed excessive behavior. Though the listeners said nothing, they stood still beside Xu Ke like they heard nothing, not at all complying with his wishes.
"What’s wrong? Can’t hear me? Do you think I don’t qualify to make such decisions?" Xu Ke turned and looked at the person next to him, spoke with a faint smile.
"Not at all; I just think it’s better not to break the rules. You’re encountering the casino for the first time working here, so it’s better not to make hasty conclusions." This person’s status didn’t qualify to attend the previous meeting, thus didn’t know Xu Ke’s performance. His impression of Xu Ke was stuck on paper, thinking Xu Ke was someone he could easily manipulate.
"Rules? What rules?" Xu Ke looked coldly, smiling at the man.
The man didn’t notice the coldness in Xu Ke’s eyes, only seeing a smile, akin to an animal smelling a carnivorous flower’s scent, unaware of its peril.
His eyes unconsciously carried some disdain, feeling Xu Ke didn’t understand anything, essentially worthless; not even knowing basic rules.
The man harbored some contempt for Xu Ke, which unconsciously showed on his face.
"I mean the rules of our casino, very basic ones known to anyone entering. If you don’t know them, I can explain later."
"So, you’re teaching me how to do my job?" Xu Ke asked, noting his superior demeanor.
"I wonder why you think I need your instruction? I’m the casino leader here now; I don’t need to know past rules, only for you to recognize from today I am the rule."
Xu Ke gazed at him, the smile vanishing entirely, leaving cold eyes unveiled, freezing the man in place.
