Chapter 952 - 951: Settling Down

As Xu Ke was about to take them away, and Tangtang and Guoguo showed no intention to resist, the expressions of the woman and the man instantly changed. They couldn’t care about anything else, stepping forward, one person grabbed the wrist of one of the sisters, unwilling to let them leave.

"You want to leave? Where do you think you’re going? I’m telling you it’s impossible. As long as we’re here, you can’t leave this place; you’re not allowed to go anywhere." The woman looked at Guoguo, whom she held tightly, and said grimly.

"So young and already flirting around, and now you want to run away with a wild man. You might not have shame, but I do. How do you think others will see us if you just run off with a wild man? Don’t you feel ashamed?" The man said with the same unpleasant expression.

"We’ve already grown up. We have the right to decide our own comings and goings, to make our own decisions. You say we’ve brought you shame; do you even have any face left? Don’t you realize your face vanished the day you started gambling? Isn’t it too late to talk to us about face now?"

Tangtang spoke while glaring viciously at them, even starting to pry open the fingers that gripped her own. Determined not to have any more entanglements, Guoguo followed Tangtang’s lead and soon broke free from the couple’s grasp, moving towards Xu Ke.

Seeing their daughters getting further away, the woman’s legs seemed to malfunction. Watching them go, something inside her suddenly collapsed, enveloped by a sense of confusion and helplessness.

At some point, tears had started to roll down her face. She wanted to stop the sisters, but it was too late. Sometimes you think you’re just one step behind, thinking you can catch up, but she never considered that sometimes you’re not just one step behind but a whole lifetime.

Tangtang, Guoguo, and Xu Ke rushed downstairs as fast as they could. Xu Ke didn’t intend to leave so hastily, but the sisters did. They feared the couple might call them back home,

At this moment, the sisters stared at their phone screens. After blocking the couple’s contact information, their faces still showed a trace of disbelief, as if they couldn’t believe they had done it, and no one was chasing after them.

When there’s something you’ve been meaning to do but haven’t, it becomes an obsession over time. Completing it without any preparation one day doesn’t bring immediate celebration but rather confusion and disbelief that you did it.

That’s exactly what the sisters felt. They looked at their phones, glanced back at the old, run-down complex they had left behind, and after the bewilderment, a burst of joy filled them, making them so excited they didn’t know where to put their hands and feet.

"Did you see that? We actually did it. We really did it." Tangtang looked at Guoguo, somewhat dumbfounded, and said.

"Yeah, we really did it. Is this real? Am I dreaming? Pinch me to check." Guoguo reached out to grab Tangtang’s hand, trembling a little as she spoke.

"It’s not a dream. It’s real. We really escaped from them, and it was actually so easy." Tangtang continued to marvel, looking at her hand.

"Stop talking and pinch me so I know I’m not dreaming. Quickly, pinch me." Guoguo excitedly grabbed Tangtang, not even hearing what Tangtang had said earlier.

As the sisters bounced around excitedly to express their joy, suddenly, a big hand appeared on their faces. Without giving them any time to react, the owner pulled their faces to the side, a pain wrapped around them, but instead of feeling hurt, they were extremely happy.

"It’s real, it’s real!" The two sisters held each other excitedly, jumping and spinning on the ground, like jubilant children.

Xu Ke watched them in their excitement, his lips curling into a quiet smile.

"Alright, let’s not get too excited yet. Come home with me first," Xu Ke said to the two sisters.

"Huh?" Guoguo’s face flushed red, her eyes flickering away from Xu Ke as she softly said, "Isn’t that inappropriate?"

Upon seeing Guoguo’s reaction and Tangtang’s similar hesitation, Xu Ke quickly realized they had misunderstood.

"What are you thinking? It’s so late, the hotels aren’t available for check-in. If you don’t come to my place, what are you going to do, sleep on the streets? I’ll help you find a place tomorrow morning. What are you thinking?" Xu Ke said, half-laughing, half-exasperated, to the sisters.

Realizing their mistake, the sisters were now too embarrassed to lift their heads, wishing they could find a hole to crawl into.

Xu Ke walked a couple of steps, noticing the two were still standing there hugging each other like abandoned children.

"What are you two still doing standing there? Hurry up and catch up," Xu Ke called out to them.

Upon hearing Xu Ke, the two girls finally followed him, heading to Xu Ke’s place.

Xu Ke’s home was a simple three-bedroom apartment. The design was simple and crisp, the place tidy and clean, typical of someone living alone.

"Why do you live in such a big place all by yourself?" Tangtang asked, puzzled, as she held the cup of water Xu Ke gave her.

To Tangtang, there seemed no need for him to live in such a large space; living alone with three rooms and finding no one home would be a dreadful feeling.

They couldn’t even imagine it, yet Xu Ke seemed very nonchalant about it.

"I like having a big space, and it’s only when the place is big enough that it won’t feel crowded when friends come over to stay," Xu Ke explained.

Xu Ke briefly explained and then went inside to get them some disposable items, "You’ll have to make do for tonight. I’ll take you to buy clothes and look for an apartment tomorrow."

"Isn’t this too much trouble for you? It’s enough you’ve helped us get away from home, and now you’re doing so much for us, and we can’t help you with anything, it’s really embarrassing," Guoguo said.

"It’s nothing to me, don’t stress about it. Just accept what I give you. It’s getting late, you should rest early, goodnight."

Xu Ke spoke briefly with the girls and then returned to his own room, contentedly drifting off to sleep.
