Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 912 - 911: Brother Xiong

Chapter 912 - 911: Brother Xiong

He Chen felt like the world before him was cast in shadow and darkness. Although the lights were on in the room, everything in his sight was pitch black and unclear.

"When did this happen? I was just handling some company affairs for a few days, and he dared to entice you behind my back. You even praised him, saying he was a good person. Good person my foot, he’s cunning to the core. I was wondering why he agreed so easily to let me compensate him with money—turns out his real intention was aiming for you. Once he has you, he doesn’t need any favors." The more He Chen spoke, the angrier he became, ultimately speaking through gritted teeth.

He Qing listened to her brother’s increasingly irrational words, noticing his posture suggesting he’d beat up Xu Ke if given the chance. She rolled her eyes without any ladylike restraint, "Brother, what are you thinking? Stop assuming everyone is that bad, okay? He never did anything to seduce me; he treated me just like every other guest. I was the one who liked him first, and he doesn’t even know about it yet." He Qing mumbled, feeling a bit frustrated.

"How can you be so weak-willed? How did I get such a spineless sister like you? At a time like this, you’re still speaking up for him? If he didn’t seduce you, would you like him? How can I not know what kind of person you are? People say daughters lean towards outsiders once married, but you’re already siding with him before marriage? I’m telling you, women understand women best, and men understand men just as well. Plus, I know both men and you. Saying he didn’t seduce you, I just don’t buy it."

He Chen spoke passionately, whereas He Qing just looked at her brother, who seemed lost in his imagination, with some frustration. "I told you there’s nothing, stop imagining things here, okay? Forget it, you’re just like Dad, only trusting yourself, only believing you’re right, and you don’t listen to others at all. I’ll just stop telling you anything in the future, you’re so annoying."

He Qing stomped her foot, got up from the sofa, and ran away, ignoring He Chen’s calls, with a heart as cold as iron.

He Qing ran to her room to hide, while He Chen couldn’t focus on any paperwork. If he weren’t afraid of angering his sister, he would’ve already stormed to Saint Noble to give that brat who seduced his sister a good beating, warning him to stay away from her.

Meanwhile, Xu Ke remained oblivious to everything happening with the He Family, knowing only that the atmosphere at Saint Noble felt a bit odd today, a solemnity differing from usual, like the calm before a storm.

Yet, before Xu Ke could ask his colleagues what had happened, the owner of Saint Noble called him into a private room. Walking down the corridor guarded every few steps, Xu Ke had a rough idea of what might be happening, though he didn’t expect the person in charge at Ning City to be so ostentatious.

As Xu Ke entered the room, he saw six people seated inside. A burly man with mid-length hair and a stubbly beard sat in the main seat, smoking a cigar. This man, occupying an entire sofa, must be Brother Xiong, Xu Ke thought.

To his right were two individuals, one being Lu Xun, whom he had met before, and the other a man with many piercings. On Brother Xiong’s left sat two more men. One wore a jacket revealing faint tattoos near the open collar, and the other wore thick glasses with an unremarkable appearance, exuding a simple and honest vibe. After greeting Brother Xiong, the owner who brought Xu Ke in took a seat on the left.

The room’s door was already closed, and there were seven people in total, with only one person standing, and that was Xu Ke.

As soon as Xu Ke entered, all eyes shifted to Xu Ke, each gaze containing varying degrees of pressure. For others, such pressure might lead to a collapse, but who was Xu Ke? He had seen it all before. With an inkling of what might be happening, he didn’t even bother to disguise his demeanor, exuding a calmness that pleased Brother Xiong, who observed him closely.

"I heard you’ve been getting close to the He Family?" Brother Xiong asked, not offering Xu Ke a seat, just watching him.

"Getting close is an exaggeration, just a slight connection. But soon, our relationship will become more intimate." Xu Ke replied with composure.

Seeing Xu Ke’s confident demeanor and knowing the He Family’s daughter often visits him lately, even though using a woman’s influence to climb up may seem contemptible, they must admit that the more the He Family’s daughter likes him, the greater the benefits they will gain in the future.

"Since that’s the case, you should make a good impression. If you can truly secure a connection with the He Family and their resources, see that empty seat to the right? It’ll be yours." Brother Xiong pointed to the empty spot beside Lu Xun with his cigar between his fingers.

Xu Ke looked in the direction Brother Xiong pointed, eyes revealing undisguised ambition and greed, making Brother Xiong nod in satisfaction.

"I won’t disappoint Brother Xiong’s expectations of me," Xu Ke promised, eyes ablaze with determined combativeness.

Observing Xu Ke’s determined stance, Brother Xiong nodded, "I trust in your ability. Go ahead and do your work."

"Yes."

Xu Ke left the room full of determination and maintained that demeanor until he was in the elevator. As the elevator doors closed and the corridor’s security personnel were no longer in sight, Xu Ke stowed away all facial expressions, a trace of cold sarcasm appearing on his face.

After Xu Ke left, those who had been silent started sharing their own insights.

"Brother, how can you let him join us? One look at him and you can tell he lacks the boldness to take on big tasks. He’s not only petty but also rides on a woman’s coattails. How can people respect us if they hear about it? If this kind of behavior spreads, it’ll be chaos if the brothers all start eyeing women’s skirts."

As soon as Xu Ke left, the tattooed man was the first to frown and voice opposition to Brother Xiong’s recent decision.

Brother Xiong wasn’t angered, despite seemingly having his authority questioned. Instead, he turned to the others, saying, "If anyone else has thoughts, speak up. Don’t hold it in. I specifically called you all here because I want to hear your opinions."

Those present were the original followers of Brother Xiong. Hearing this, they didn’t hold back. The pierced man echoed, "I agree with Tattoo. What gives him the right to ascend by relying on a woman’s connections and contributions? Why should he suppress our brothers and stand as our equal? Even I’m not convinced, let alone those below us."
