Chapter 908 - 907: He Family’s Young Lady

"I’m not lying, I’m telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, I can call my brother right now and have him come down to see if what I said is true." The woman felt her heart full of grievance, with nowhere to vent, as she faced the misunderstanding in others’ eyes.

After saying this, the woman was about to grab her phone to make a call, but her hand reached aside and found nothing. Only then did she realize she had left her bag in the private room, and her phone was in it. This realization made her face turn slightly embarrassed.

Xu Ke noticed the woman’s movement, took out his own phone, unlocked the screen, and handed it to the woman, saying, "Use my phone for now."

The woman looked gratefully at Xu Ke, then turned her gaze to the phone. She angrily wanted to call her brother to come and stand up for her, but realized she hadn’t memorized his number. Fortunately, her own phone was left upstairs, so she could call her number to reach someone.

Upon figuring this out, the woman’s previously stiff body relaxed. She skillfully entered a familiar number, and after a few rings, the call was answered.

Hearing the familiar voice from the phone, the woman instinctively felt wronged and said in a tear-filled voice, "Brother, I’m being bullied downstairs, please come and stand up for me."

He Chen, who was just joking with his brothers in the private room, immediately had his smile wiped off his face, "Stay where you are and don’t move. I’m coming down to find you now."

After hanging up the phone, the woman sniffled, returned Xu Ke’s phone, and said, "Thank you for the phone."

"You’re welcome, it was just a small favor," Xu Ke replied.

The woman nodded, then raised her head proudly and looked at Niu Zhicheng, "You have one last chance to apologize to me, or when my brother comes down, you won’t have the chance anymore. My brother adores me the most."

"Hah, acting so well, you didn’t really get into the role, did you? Do you really think you’re the daughter of the He Family? Considering your age, if you were really a daughter of the He Family, they host several banquets every year. Why have I never seen you at one? What’s your ranking in the He Family? Why have we never heard of you? A pheasant thinks it’s a phoenix without a single bright feather — ridiculous!"

"Before you ask what someone is, why don’t you look at what you are first? She is my sister, He Chen’s sister, the He Family’s little princess. She is undeniably a phoenix. And what are you, daring to point at her and talk like that?"

He Chen came down the stairs with a dark face, speeding up as soon as he heard Niu Zhicheng’s words, his eyes burning with uncontrollable rage.

Everyone looked over upon hearing the sound, only to see He Chen, who was supposed to be abroad, appearing before them. Listening to what He Chen said, no one had time to sympathize with Niu Zhicheng anymore. They looked at the woman in shock, realizing what she said was true — she really was from the He Family, and their little princess. But when did the He Family have such a person? How come no one had ever heard a word about it? The He Family’s secrecy measures were just too good.

Since He Chen’s appearance, Niu Zhicheng’s face turned ashen, losing all its former luster. He watched He Chen walk past him toward the woman, and the woman, who had been so arrogant in front of him earlier, now looked like a severely wronged child, throwing herself into He Chen’s arms.

"Brother, why did you take so long? I was almost bullied to death by him," the woman said, pounding her fists lightly against He Chen’s body. He Chen remained calm, comforting her patiently, "It’s my fault, I was late. Please forgive your brother, okay? I’ll stand up for you now."

He Chen’s attitude made those who speculated she was an illegitimate child immediately drop the thought. He was the first child of his father and his father’s wife. If the woman were an illegitimate daughter, He Chen wouldn’t have come down at all, let alone apologized or comforted her — he would have likely joined in on the ridicule.

Hearing He Chen willing to stand up for her, the woman finally lifted her head from He Chen’s chest.

"What happened to your face? Did he hit you?" He Chen’s gaze was locked onto the woman’s face, and his eyes darkened, seemingly harboring an endless storm.

The woman had almost forgotten about this, but upon his mention, her cheek instantly began to ache, and tears flowed from her eyes uncontrollably. Her sobs resembled the whimper of a kitten, stirring not annoyance but only sympathy, causing He Chen’s heart to ache as if it were being squeezed by a large hand.

This provoked an anger in He Chen that no words could quell. Without a second thought, before anyone else could react, he turned and landed a punch on Niu Zhicheng, only Xu Ke quietly stepped back, giving He Chen more room to act.

Just moments ago, Niu Zhicheng was still arrogant, but now, punched in the face, he dared not make a sound, gritting his teeth and enduring it.

"I can’t bear to lay a finger on my sister, and you dare to hit her," He Chen said, looking at the bloodied mouth of Niu Zhicheng, his face still no better despite having landed a punch.

"I didn’t know she was your sister. Had I known, I wouldn’t have hit her," Niu Zhicheng said, holding his bruised cheek, pleading with He Chen.

"He not only hit me, but he also insulted me, calling me a prostitute and calling me cheap," the woman accused from behind He Chen.

He Chen, already simmering, found his anger only stoked by her words.

Niu Zhicheng realized things were bad upon hearing her accusation, and looking into He Chen’s eyes, he saw the flames and darkness merging as if they could burn a hole in the sky.

"I didn’t know her identity then, and there was a misunderstanding which made me speak harshly. I now know I was wrong. I apologize, and I’ll make amends. Whatever Miss He likes, if it’s within my power, I’ll get it for you," Niu Zhicheng said, trying to appease the woman, hoping she’d speak on his behalf so He Chen would spare him.

But the woman, still angry, had no intention to plead for him.

"With your family’s status, do you think there’s anything you can obtain that the He Family can’t? Who do you think you’re looking down upon?" the woman retorted with narrowed eyes.

"I didn’t mean it that way," Niu Zhicheng hurriedly raised his hands in denial, trying to explain further. But before he could finish, He Chen kicked him to the ground.
