Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 858: Waking Her Up

Chapter 858: Waking Her Up

Understanding is one thing, whether or not to act on it is another.

Xu Ke had no intention of taking the old woman to the hospital. Instead, he squatted down and carefully observed her face, then reached out and tapped her cheek.

"I know you’re not unconscious, stop pretending, get up." Xu Ke said.

The old woman lying on the ground kept her eyes closed and didn’t move.

"Look, she’s not waking up, she probably isn’t pretending. We should take her to the hospital for an examination, just in case something happens, you won’t be able to explain it even with eight mouths." Someone in the crowd spoke up.

"If you don’t wake up, don’t blame me for using some methods." Xu Ke ignored the person who spoke and continued squatting in place, speaking to the seemingly unconscious old woman.

The person who was ignored felt a bit embarrassed, looking at Xu Ke with some anger, even rolling their eyes at him to express their dissatisfaction.

"Why won’t you listen when he talks to you, young man? Do you think we would deceive you? We know this old woman did some bad stuff before, you might be holding a grudge, but you shouldn’t ignore her life just because you’re mad. She fainted because of you. If you leave her be and something happens, won’t your conscience trouble you? Can you sleep at night?" People kept saying things like that.

They seemed to place all the blame on Xu Ke, as if he were the root of this trouble.

If Xu Ke’s ability to withstand such pressure were weaker, he might have lost himself in their words, becoming confused and even breaking down because of the scene in front of him.

But fortunately, Xu Ke was not that kind of person. "Since you plan to fake it to the end, I won’t persuade you any further. Sorry about this."

Although Xu Ke said he was sorry, there was no hint of reserve in his actions. He pressed his thumb directly on the old woman’s philtrum and applied force, causing her to suddenly open her eyes, push Xu Ke aside, and sit up from the ground.

The old woman’s eyes were welling up with tears. She held her philtrum with her hand, unable to express how much it hurt.

Xu Ke hadn’t held back, intending to teach the old woman a lesson, so he applied even more pressure. The old woman’s philtrum swelled and bled slightly, showing how much force Xu Ke had used.

"If you had just gotten up when I first called you, there would’ve been no need for me to pinch your philtrum. Wasn’t that unnecessary suffering?" Xu Ke said helplessly.

The people who had earlier insisted Xu Ke take the old woman to the hospital all fell silent, looking at her with intense disgust, feeling deceived.

"How could you lie at your age? Aren’t you ashamed of doing such disgraceful things?" someone angrily scolded, pointing at the old woman.

"A shameless elder like you, why hasn’t heaven struck you down with lightning to stop you from harming others?" Someone chimed in.

"You’re old, yet still do such things. Aren’t you afraid that karma will catch up with your children and grandchildren?"

"People are really unlucky to have a relative like you."

"If your ancestors knew what you did, they’d probably turn over in their graves."

"More than just turning over; they’d probably climb out of their graves."

The crowd witnessing all this began to speak up, venting their anger at being deceived, as if trampling the old woman into the ground would make them forget their foolishness, not realizing they weren’t much different from what they condemned.

Xu Ke watched everything with a trace of sarcasm in his eyes, remaining silent, like part of the backdrop.

The old woman didn’t seem affected by the harsh words or her strong body didn’t show it, standing firm where most 50 or 60 years old might falter. Yet, her inability to ignore those words left her visibly upset.

"Shut your damn mouth! What I do is none of your business! Why are you spewing crap in front of me?" the old woman yelled at the first person who pointed a finger at her.

"And you." She pointed to the person who wished lightning upon her, her eyes fierce, "I’m old enough to be your mother, yet you curse me so harshly. Calling me disrespectful doesn’t make you any better. Do you have any elders in your family? If not, it’s probably because you cursed them to death. If you have elders and treat them as badly as you do me, they won’t live long. You should hide indoors when it rains, lest lightning strike you dead." The old woman shouted ferociously.

She ranted at each person who dared speak against her, opening the floodgates of insults. Even bystanders simply watching got caught in the crossfire.

People are like that; they love to watch drama with detachment until it involves them directly, at which point they lose their calm.

The women’s battle erupted suddenly, fierce and uncompromising. In a blink, Xu Ke found himself pushed out of the center as the women launched into a war of words, drawing the entire market’s attention.

The women’s shrill voices clashed, escalating quickly to physical scuffles, despite some voices inside urging them to stop. But once riled up, who can easily calm down?
