Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 808: Taking Action

Chapter 808: Taking Action

Xu Ke was clearly sitting right there, yet they acted as if they hadn’t seen anything, continuing their conversation, saying things that only made Xu Ke angrier.

"Who do you think is going to die soon? Who’s not qualified?" Xu Ke asked, his face dark and sullen as he looked at the group.

Once Xu Ke spoke, the group slowly turned their heads, pretending as if they had just noticed Xu Ke.

"Oh, there’s actually a living person here? Why didn’t you make a sound when we first came in? And now, just when we’re having a good conversation, you suddenly speak up. You did it on purpose, didn’t you?"

There was no need for Wei Ji to intervene; his lackeys naturally stood up for him. The one speaking was a scholarly-looking man with glasses, who had just moments ago been the foulest-mouthed.

"Saying such things in the owner’s house, right in front of the owner, where are your manners?" Xu Ke shot back at the man with a look of indescribable mockery in his eyes.

"Owner? So you’re Xu Ke? You don’t look any different than anyone else, why do they say you’re so frightening?" Wei Ji stepped out from behind the group, scanning Xu Ke up and down with his sharp eyes.

"I thought you were special, but you’re just like everyone else. Is that enough for that little girl to be calling you ’brother-in-law’ all the time?" Wei Ji’s expression when he spoke conveyed a deep disdain, as though he was just shy of rolling his eyes to show how much he looked down on Xu Ke.

"So you’re Wei Ji?" Wei Ji’s condescending gaze met with Xu Ke, who responded with the same disdainful tone and look.

"I was thinking of going to find you, but instead, you came to me yourself." Xu Ke scoffed coldly.

"Find me? What for? Is it because you know I like Xiaxia, so you plan to hand her over to me? Although that girl was unwise and hurt me last time, I taught her a good lesson for it. I’m sure, after that lesson, she’ll obediently listen from now on."

Wei Ji’s face broke into a self-satisfied smile.

But Xu Ke was so infuriated by his words that he gritted his teeth, his tongue licking the back of his teeth continuously as the anger in his heart kept rising.

"Brother Wei, you’re wise. Women are just like that these days. If you try to lead them, they’ll back away, but if you don’t treat them well, they’ll stick to you like glue. See, you taught her a lesson, and now even her family’s tone has changed." Someone fawningly looked at Wei Ji and said.

"That’s why you can’t spoil women. Some say women should be pampered, but that’s nonsense. Look at pampered women, every single one of them ends up wayward, they’re not the kind you can marry and live with. But look at my Brother Wei, his method of disciplining women is top-notch. Not only did he deal with that girl, he also sorted out her family along with her."

As some fawned, others joined in, and seeing that Wei Ji didn’t object, they became even more excessive.

"What are you still standing there for? Can’t you see what’s happening? Hurry and bring your sister down. Don’t tell me we have to ask Brother Wei three or four times before she comes down?"

Someone noticed Xu Ke still standing there, not moving to bring anyone down, and frowned, looking at him like he was a disobedient child.

Xu Ke stood his ground, and another person stepped forward, reaching out to push him, their expression full of dissatisfaction.

"We’re talking to you, didn’t you hear? Are you deaf or mute? Go call for her. Or do you intend for us to go ourselves?" The man reached out to tap Xu Ke’s face. To put it nicely, it was a tap; to put it harshly, it was no different from a slap.

But before the man’s hand could land, Xu Ke intercepted it halfway.

"You dare to stop me? You’ve got some nerve." Being stopped made the man feel humiliated, and he began to shame Xu Ke in front of everyone.

"I think you’re the one with the nerve. Even your family wouldn’t dare to speak to me like this. How dare you act so arrogantly towards me? Haven’t you considered the consequences?" Xu Ke threatened with a chilling tone.

When Xu Ke mentioned family elders, a flicker of panic crossed some faces. They remembered their elders’ warnings but tried to suppress their fear in front of their peers, standing firm against Xu Ke, though inside, only they knew how scared they really were.

Out of all these people, the only one who truly felt no fear was probably Wei Ji. He had only recently returned from studying abroad and wasn’t familiar with or aware of Xu Ke. Since returning, he’d been flattered by these lackeys, and his ego was through the roof. He wouldn’t be intimidated even if the emperor himself were here.

"And what consequences? These people are under my protection, what could you do to them with me here? Don’t forget that you’re just a businessman. You’ve got a bit of money and think you can front in front of me?" Wei Ji stepped towards Xu Ke, posturing like a proud peacock.

"Someone of your class would’ve been considered lowly in the past, while I am upper class. Even today, my status cannot be compared to you, someone reeking of money. If I take a liking to your sister, it’s a blessing for your family, so stop acting ungrateful."

Wei Ji pulled his hand away from Xu Ke’s grasp, scoffing coldly, his gaze drifting towards the upstairs, seemingly about to head up himself.

This kind of rude and crass behavior made Xu Ke’s brow twitch, and he grabbed the other’s shoulder with force. Unprepared, Wei Ji fell to the ground.

The cold, hard floor greeted Wei Ji’s backside with a close encounter, and his face changed dramatically. If it weren’t for his pride and not wanting to lose face, Wei Ji would’ve screamed.

"We came here as guests, and now you’re hitting people? Is this how the Xu Family treats guests? Don’t think just because you’re Shangjing’s richest, we can’t do anything to you. Yes, you have money, but all you have is money. We have power. If we want, do you think you can still hang on in Shangjing?" A young-looking male stepped out from the crowd, pointing directly at Xu Ke’s nose.

"You think a few of you can really move me? That’s the most arrogant thing I’ve ever heard. If you know I have money, you should understand one thing: money talks. My wealth is beyond what you can imagine. If I wanted, I wouldn’t even need to lift a finger; many others would solve you for me."

Xu Ke’s words stunned everyone. They dared to come and cause trouble because they thought Xu Ke wasn’t as noble as them, and as long as they didn’t go too far, Xu Ke wouldn’t dare to do anything. Besides, they had Wei Ji as a shield.

But now, they weren’t so sure about their initial assumption. Xu Ke’s gaze was simply too intimidating now.
