Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 800: Panic Strikes

Chapter 800: Panic Strikes

Although Claude didn’t hand all of the three individuals’ crimes over to Bart, just this was enough to infuriate Bart and make him give up on these three children.

Things were progressing just as Claude had imagined; when he heard from his subordinate that the butler had once again left the manor, Claude was not surprised. "Just follow him, no need to do anything special," Claude said.

Despite Bart’s efforts to suppress the matter as much as possible, the other children living in the manor found out. Bart didn’t know how they got the news, but by the time he realized, the entire manor was aware of the situation, and it was too late to block the information.

"What on earth is going on, I told you to handle it, and this is how you handle it?" Bart called his long-serving butler to the study and scolded him harshly. This was the first time the atmosphere between them was so tense, and also the first time the old butler was reprimanded by the master in such a manner. His wrinkled face was full of shame.

"I’m sorry, I don’t know why things turned out like this. I will resolve it as soon as possible," the old butler said, hanging his head in shame.

"Resolve it? How to resolve it? Everyone knows about it now; how are you going to resolve it? Are you going to wipe everyone’s memory? Can you?" Bart yelled in anger.

Rightfully angry as he was, recent unlucky events seemed to befall him. A mishap occurred at the company, although accidental, it left Bart unsettled; such things had never happened before.

Unhappy at work, he returned home to such a trivial matter, yet his own butler couldn’t handle it properly. If word got out, the Calvin Family’s stocks would undoubtedly take a significant hit. Though this hadn’t happened yet, Bart could envision the aftermath clearly.

Bart rubbed his forehead, feeling his head starting to ache from the situation.

"In any case, this cannot spread outside, not a word can leak out. If this gets out, don’t blame me for being ruthless," Bart said with a dangerous look in his eyes, nearly overflowing with threat.

"Yes," the butler said, lowering his head, not daring to meet Bart’s gaze.

The butler dared to handle the matter, but inside the manor, panic had already spread. Bart wasn’t aware that the information they received differed from what he knew. He got word of how much evil those people had done, while the manor residents, especially his children living there, heard about the gruesome deaths. Their focus was on how horribly the three died, not on rejoicing about the deaths.

While the butler busied himself with handling affairs, Marian had already invited Bart’s children in the manor to her room. "Did you all hear about the news?" Marian asked as she poured each a cup of coffee.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about?" Albo tilted his head, feigning innocence.

"Don’t you know what I’m talking about? Nobody here is a fool. Playing dumb really has no point now. I called you all here for our safety. I hope everyone can be honest in the coming discussion. If you’re going to play meaningless tricks in a life-or-death situation, then just get out of my room," Marian said bluntly.

"Alright, stop getting so worked up with your words. What do you mean by life-or-death situation? I don’t get it," Nancy, looking pale with bloodshot eyes and dark circles, spoke with a weary face. Recently ill, her energy was sapped, causing Marian to swallow back her biting remarks.

"You really don’t know at all?" Marian was still somewhat incredulous that Nancy really knew nothing, but seeing her current state, An Kang was inevitably shaken.

"What good would it do me to lie to you? I’m not feeling well enough as it is. If you’re not going to talk, I’m going back to my room to rest," Nancy said with a rolling eye, her tone somewhat drifting.

"Our mistress has been unwell recently and has stayed in her room to rest; she hasn’t been keeping up with the outside affairs. So naturally, regarding what you’re talking about, we really have no idea," the maid behind Nancy spoke up.

Seeing Nancy and her servant both saying so, Marian stopped wasting time doubting them, and instead directly recounted the deaths of those three individuals once more.

"That’s roughly the situation. I’ve sent someone to investigate, and it matches the rumors exactly. I believe you’ve all sent someone too; I wonder if any of you found anything else," Marian asked, glancing around the room.

"Nothing else, just like the rumors, but that’s what makes it scary. So many of us sent so many to investigate, and the outcome remains the same. What does that signify?" Albo asked as he calmly surveyed the room.

"What does it signify?" The previously quiet but now wealthiest girl among them asked softly.

"It signifies either it’s truly an accident, or someone is deliberately doing this to give us a warning," Albo touched his eyebrow and said.

"Regardless of their intentions, they’re not coming with goodwill."

"But there’s still the most crucial issue: who is this killer? What is their relation to us? Now, our enemies are in the shadows while we’re exposed, making the situation highly unfavorable for us," someone spoke up.

"After talking for so long, what should we do?"

An eerie silence settled in the air.

"So, we talked for ages, and no solutions came out of it, just endless chatter?" Someone sneered. "What a waste of time, thought we’d actually deduce something, damn it!" The man lit a cigarette and left the room.

Once someone set the example, the others exchanged glances and left one by one, the door opening and closing repeatedly, leaving only five people in the room. Aside from the twins, the room’s owner Marian, and the already ailing Nancy, the only one left was the timid, low-key girl.
