Chapter 1008 - 1007: Search
"What did you say?" Xu Ke’s subordinate, who had been waiting for Xu Ke’s instructions, saw Xu Ke’s lips move but didn’t hear what he said. Fearing he had missed an order, he quickly lowered his head with a somewhat apprehensive expression and nervously asked Xu Ke.
Xu Ke, seeing his subordinate’s nervous demeanor, waved his hand at him, "There’s nothing for you to do here anymore. You don’t need to wait here. Take the men and capture those who bullied them. Don’t kill them, I want to deal with him personally." As he said this, Xu Ke squinted slightly, and a faint smile appeared on his face, which sent chills down his subordinate’s spine.
Even though they didn’t know who was bold enough to bully their boss’s people, seeing their boss’s current state, the subordinates already began to feel sympathy for the other party. With so many people in this world, why did they have to rush towards the muzzle of their boss’s gun? It truly left them speechless.
The three people who caused the trouble were still unaware of what awaited them.
The man thrown into Tangtang and Guoguo’s room by Third Young Master Hu and Old Fourth Wu held his head, groggy and sat up from the floor. Seeing the open door and the empty room, his dulled mind couldn’t comprehend what had happened, wondering why the room was suddenly empty.
A gust of wind came in through the open window, lifting the white lace curtains with blue floral patterns that brushed against the man’s head, as if comforting his aching head.
After resting on the ground for a while and feeling somewhat better, he stood up and walked out through the bedroom door. His gaze briefly scanned the room, then he gave up the thought of looking further.
Back then, Tangtang and Guoguo didn’t have much money, so they couldn’t afford to rent a two-bedroom apartment, opting instead for this one-bedroom apartment.
Although the room wasn’t large, it felt spacious due to the lack of furnishings. Originally, Tangtang and Guoguo intended to decorate it, but their tight budget prevented them from doing so, leaving the room as it was when they first moved in—still that empty.
The man scanned the room and saw everything clearly at a glance. Realizing the room was indeed empty, his mind, still recovering from the beating, began to wonder under what circumstances the room could be left this empty.
His brows furrowed tightly, and when his gaze landed on the loosely closed door, he finally sensed something amiss, and a part of his heart suddenly collapsed.
No longer caring about anything, the man hurriedly pushed open the door and ran out of the tongzi building in a frantic escape, his premonition of danger saving him from countless threats. Though unaware of what danger lay in the empty room, he chose to trust his intuition and ran out of the tongzi building, heading home.
He had to admit, his timing was impeccable. Just minutes after he left the tongzi building, several people in black suits entered and went to Tangtang and Guoguo’s room.
These people were none other than Xu Ke’s men, sent to investigate who had bullied Tangtang and Guoguo. They swiftly zeroed in on their rented apartment, hoping to find some clues, as their sources indicated that Tangtang and Guoguo were injured below the tongzi building. Rumor had it they looked as if they’d jumped from an upper floor.
Their first reaction upon arriving was to check Tangtang and Guoguo’s room, hoping to find some clues.
However, upon entering, they found nothing, not even a clue. The room was so bare that they couldn’t spot even the slightest trace of anything. The room was empty, with everything clearly visible, leaving no place to hide.
Just as they were about to leave, the leader suddenly paused, his gaze falling on the door.
"Brother?" one of the men investigating with him asked, seeing the sudden stop.
"We need to know who came to this room today. The people in this tongzi building must know. Start with the closest units; no matter the means, I must have the answer today," the leader instructed.
The bedroom window was open, and there were no traces on the windowsill, so it was certain they didn’t come in through the window. Since they came in through the door, the people in the tongzi building must have noticed. Even if one household didn’t know, those on the same floor as Tangtang and Guoguo surely did, prompting the leader’s orders.
Taking into account the intact door lock and the broken bedroom door lock, the leader quickly reconstructed the events in the room, his expression growing more grim as he visualized them.
The others hadn’t considered so much. They only knew to follow the leader’s orders, like worker ants following a queen. They didn’t need to question or reason, just follow orders obediently, without needing their own will.
Upon hearing the leader’s words, several of them immediately sprang into action, splitting up and heading to the neighboring households.
The leader didn’t bother asking about their progress. He simply found a sofa in the overly empty room, sat down, closed his eyes, and began his wait.
The neighbors around Tangtang and Guoguo’s room were far from being in a restful mood; sounds rose and fell, yet none made him open his eyes.
