Chapter 469: Two Women Fight!
Chapter 469: Two Women Fight!
"Xin’er."
Seeing Long Xin appear, Long Chen was surprised and softly called out her name. Chu Lingjun also turned her gaze toward Long Xin.
Long Xin merely gave a slight nod. Her slender fingers tightened into a fist before slowly relaxing as she walked toward them.
"Why are you here?" Long Chen asked.
"Did I interrupt you?" Long Xin retorted, her voice calm but carrying a hint of coldness.
Before Long Chen could speak, Chu Lingjun interjected, "Of course not. What Long Chen meant was, why are you still awake so late? What brings you up to the roof?"
Long Xin smiled faintly. "The room was too stuffy, so I came up for some fresh air. I didn’t expect to find you two here."
"Me too. I just happened to run into Long Chen," Chu Lingjun said calmly, which was indeed the truth. She also wanted to spare Long Chen any awkwardness.
Being caught in the middle like this is never a pleasant feeling.
"What a coincidence," Long Xin said, offering Chu Lingjun a faint smile.
Seeing this, Chu Lingjun sensed that something was amiss with Long Xin, but she maintained her composure and smiled back. For a moment, a dead silence fell over them.
Long Chen felt his scalp tingle. The feeling was deeply uncomfortable. This silent, charged atmosphere was far more of a headache than facing a powerful enemy.
Just as he was about to break the silence, Long Xin spoke first. "Brother, could you leave us for a moment?" she asked, turning to Long Chen. "I’d like to speak with Sister Chu alone."
"This..." Long Chen hesitated, glancing from Long Xin to Chu Lingjun.
Chu Lingjun nodded at him, signaling for him to leave. He was still hesitant, but she gave him a reassuring look, as if to say she could handle it. Long Chen had no choice but to comply and rose to leave.
The exchange of glances between Chu Lingjun and Long Chen did not escape Long Xin’s notice.
For an instant, a flash of anger surged through her, but she quickly suppressed it, her expression remaining impassive.
Once Long Chen was gone, Long Xin slowly sat down beside Chu Lingjun, a hint of melancholy shadowing her pretty face.
Chu Lingjun looked at her. "What did you want to talk about?"
Long Xin didn’t answer right away. After a moment of silence, she said slowly, "You should already know what I want to talk about, shouldn’t you, Sister Chu?"
Hearing this, Chu Lingjun nodded. "Then say what’s on your mind. I’m listening."
"Alright," Long Xin said bluntly. "I’ll get straight to the point. Has anything happened between you and Long Chen?"
At this, Chu Lingjun recounted what had happened between her and Long Chen in the God-Devil Domain. Of course, she omitted certain details, like when they had to remove their clothes to stay warm in the snow cave, along with other moments that might have brought them closer.
Long Xin, however, was clearly unsatisfied with this answer. She confronted Chu Lingjun directly. "You know very well that I’m not asking about your battles and bloodshed. I want to know if you’ve slept with Long Chen!"
A blush colored Chu Lingjun’s cheeks, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared. She hadn’t expected Long Xin to be so direct; it had caught her completely off guard. Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, she said, "What on earth are you thinking?"
But Long Xin pressed on. "Just answer the question. Yes or no? Don’t try to change the subject."
Feeling helpless, Chu Lingjun could only answer honestly, "No."
If it had been anyone else, Chu Lingjun wouldn’t have even bothered to respond. But this was Long Xin, and she knew Long Xin had always loved Long Chen. It was obvious to anyone with eyes; you’d have to be blind not to see it.
When Long Xin had first wanted to search for Long Chen, Chu Lingjun had been the one to stop her, insisting on going alone and promising to take good care of him. But along the way, things had changed. She had gradually developed feelings for Long Chen. With each life-or-death experience they shared, she found it harder and harder to pull away, to the point where her emotions were beyond her control. Long Chen’s courage, his character, and his unwavering dedication—risking his life to save her time and again—had all struck a chord deep within her.
That’s why she felt so guilty toward Long Xin. From Long Xin’s perspective, she must seem like a thief who had stolen his heart. But Chu Lingjun was also clear about her own situation. The guilt she felt stemmed from their once-good friendship, not because she believed she had done something wrong. Matters of the heart don’t follow a queue. It’s about destiny, not timing! Winning someone over when you’re late to the game is the most common thing in the world. There’s no right or wrong in it.
Upon hearing Chu Lingjun’s answer, the knot of anxiety in Long Xin’s chest finally loosened a bit.
At least they haven’t reached that point yet.
Chu Lingjun hesitated for a moment before speaking sincerely, "Long Xin, when it comes to feelings... sometimes I can’t control them either. I know this must be difficult for you to..."
"I know." Long Xin cut her off before she could finish. "You don’t have to say any more. I know. Matters of the heart are uncontrollable. I know that feelings have developed between you and Long Chen."
Chu Lingjun added, "But I also know that he has feelings for you, too."
"So, a man with feelings for two different women... tell me, isn’t he a scumbag?"
Hearing this, Long Xin actually laughed. "If he weren’t so exceptional, how could he have captured the hearts of us both?"
Chu Lingjun shook her head, also smiling.
Long Xin blinked, her gaze fixed on Chu Lingjun. "Let’s compete fairly."
Chu Lingjun looked at her, surprised.
Long Xin gave a faint smile. "What? Don’t you dare, Sister Chu?"
"There’s nothing to be afraid of," Chu Lingjun agreed instantly. "Fair competition it is. But you’d better watch out. If you’re not careful, your Brother Chen will be mine. You’ll be the one crying then."
Long Xin snorted. "Who’s afraid of whom? We’ll see about that!"
The two women agreed so readily because they were both fundamentally good-natured and held no true animosity toward one another. Besides, they were both supremely confident in themselves. If it’s not meant to be, no amount of fighting or struggling will make a difference. So while it looked like a fair competition on the surface, what they both really wanted to find out was who held the more important place in Long Chen’s heart.
