Chapter 1988 - 1989: Grand Dao Formation
Chapter 1988 - 1989: Grand Dao Formation
"It’s open!"
Xu Zhenzi’s voice rang out, and the divine son, along with his followers, moved simultaneously.
The three of them stepped out of the Formation and entered the enormous building.
"Were we preempted?" Ye Qiu frowned.
Before the three stepped out, they all noticed the latecomers Ye Qiu and Li Jin, but they paid no heed and entered the enormous building; that was their main priority.
"Brother Expert, they went ahead first," Li Jin said beside him.
Ye Qiu didn’t want to fall behind; he needed to quickly break the Formation in front of him and catch up.
With no one else around except for Li Jin, Ye Qiu was completely undisturbed and immediately began to unravel the Formation before him.
The final Formation indeed did not disappoint; its difficulty far exceeded previous ones. To break it, there were two feasible methods: one to understand its essence and completely master the grand array, or to find its core and directly destroy it, causing the entire array to vanish automatically.
Had those three not gotten ahead, Ye Qiu wouldn’t mind trying to understand its essence and master the Formation. However, that would take considerable time, so he had no choice but to opt for the latter and find the core.
Like some novice Formation cultivators, they would place the core at the center of the grand array. Those more advanced would hide the core, and even more skillful ones would employ techniques to conceal the core so thoroughly that it leaves no clue to be found.
The Formation in front of him belonged to the third type, with the core perfectly concealed.
Even as Ye Qiu focused his senses, he couldn’t detect the energy path from the core.
Once a Formation cultivator enters an unfamiliar grand array, it becomes a battle of wits between two Array Masters. Ye Qiu now had to find this perfectly hidden core.
Where exactly is it?
Ye Qiu didn’t look around but searched earnestly, feeling for the location of the core. However, the Formation artist who laid the array was highly skilled, leaving Ye Qiu without any leads.
Must I really break open the Formation?
But doing so would consume a considerable amount of time, and right now, time is precious. If he’s any slower and those three seize the lead, this trip to the cave dwelling would be in vain.
Those three people managed to leave, so there must be a Formation cultivator among them, and quite a skilled one at that.
Ye Qiu felt an urgent pressure within.
"No, I shouldn’t be affected by him. If he can understand this Formation, I can surely find the core."
Ye Qiu realized he was subconsciously feeling pressured by the Formation cultivator who broke this array. As fellow Formation practitioners, the fact that the other could break this Formation allowed Ye Qiu to roughly gauge that the other’s Formation skills were probably equivalent to his own.
And the other had a head start.
Invisibly influenced, though Ye Qiu didn’t care, he was still affected.
Ye Qiu began to quietly calm his mind, making himself tranquil, achieving a state of unruffled composure, his heart as calm as still water.
Composure is crucial for a Formation cultivator, especially in breaking Formations and finding the core. Without putting one’s whole heart into it, it’s hard to achieve the goal.
When Ye Qiu’s mind became as still as the surface of a lake without the slightest ripple, he began to enter the state, using himself as the center, continually sensing the entire Formation.
Ye Qiu sat there motionless, and Li Jin dared not disturb him. He couldn’t be of any help at this moment, and naturally, he wouldn’t cause trouble for Ye Qiu. As time ticked on, Li Jin noticed that Ye Qiu had yet to make any move.
Just as Li Jin felt sleepiness creeping in, Ye Qiu suddenly gave a low shout, "So the core is hidden here, break for me!"
Ah!
"Have we broken the grand array?" Li Jin was instantly invigorated and hurriedly looked up.
He saw Ye Qiu striking at what seemed to be empty air, rubbing his eyes in disbelief. Where was the core? Did Ye Qiu make a mistake? Li Jin felt bewildered.
However, as Ye Qiu continued to strike, Li Jin’s eyes widened; the once empty void suddenly revealed a square shape with flickering light upon it.
Here was the position Ye Qiu had locked onto after much counter-investigation. Previously, Li Jin couldn’t see anything there because it was hidden by the Formation. The core was concealed by another Formation, which was why Ye Qiu couldn’t find it.
But at this moment, nothing could hide from Ye Qiu. The Formation blocking the core was shattered by Ye Qiu, revealing the core.
With one punch, the core shattered, and the entire grand array before them began to dissipate.
"Success." Li Jin rejoiced as Ye Qiu withdrew his gaze and asked, "How much time has passed?"
"Half an incense stick’s time."
Indeed, it still took a considerable amount of time, but this was already the fastest speed possible.
The massive building now stood before them, without any obstacles to impede their steps.
"Let’s go," Ye Qiu gestured to Li Jin.
The two immediately stepped into the building. The grand hall inside was vast and empty. At the very front, a person sat cross-legged, wearing a serene smile.
However, upon closer inspection, one would notice that he had no sign of life.
As the two approached, they were surprised to find that the person’s body was golden, like a golden body. Even in the absence of vitality, it emitted no stench of decay, as if his body were eternally imperishable through the ages.
"Could he be the owner of this cave dwelling?" Li Jin exclaimed.
Ye Qiu thought it very probable; a body turning gold was something even a Saint could not achieve. Although Ye Qiu had never seen a Saint’s post-mortem form as a golden body.
As for beings of celestial level, Ye Qiu had never seen celestial powerhouses, but post-death, it was estimated that the body wouldn’t decay; this must at least be of celestial level magnitude.
"Brother Expert, look, there’s writing beneath him!" Li Jin pointed to the inscriptions below the body.
"Those who worship me shall attain the celestial great way; those who do not will forever fall into hell."
Li Jin read aloud and remarked repeatedly, "This person is so domineering; he demands worship and threatens hell for those who do not."
Ye Qiu also frowned. Even if celestial powerhouses dissipated after death, how could they punish those who did not worship them?
Just then, there were three banging sounds as Li Jin knelt and knocked his head on the ground three times, laughing sheepishly, "Brother Expert, since he said so, might as well pay homage."
Afterward, he sheepishly rubbed his head.
Ye Qiu smiled faintly and said nothing. Meanwhile, the cushion where Li Jin had just knelt suddenly began to rise.
Hmm?
The two exchanged glances.
Li Jin tried to move the cushion away and suddenly found beneath it a recessed little box.
"There’s a book inside." Li Jin immediately retrieved it and read the words over the book: "Great Way Formation."
Great Way Formation?
This was clearly a book about formations.
Not understanding formations at all, Li Jin quickly handed the book to Ye Qiu, saying, "Brother Expert, I think this is more suitable for you. I don’t have a talent for formations."
Ye Qiu took the ’Great Way Formation’ in his hand, opened the first page, and was immediately captivated by the contents.
Seeing Ye Qiu lost in thought for a long time, Li Jin asked, "Brother Expert, could this secret manual be the inheritance of the cave’s owner?"
Ye Qiu took a deep breath and nodded heavily.
