Chapter 204: His Reasons
Chapter 204: His Reasons
“Is she just there to watch over me or is she there to stop me from doing something stupid? I guess, it’s a bit or both...huh?” I said darkly before I let out another scoff and looked away.
Bradon was silent although I wanted him to do some explaining. It may not be true, but I would have preferred for him to deny it. Even if it was a lie, I would have loved to see him making up some excuses that she was just there to help take care of me and that he trusted me to behave.
“You know, the fact that you think that I may do something stupid while living right under your roof already shows that regardless of what I think about the matter, you think that what I’m being put through is enough to drive me to do something very stupid...” I pointed out as I glared at him.
“If there’s something else that you need, you can let me know and I’ll arrange it,” Bradon replied simply.
“Actually, there is something...or rather someone that you can get for me. What about you drag the crown prince here so that I can finally talk to him?” I suggested sarcastically.
The cold look of warning as he stared at me told me that his answer was a big fat ‘no’. It wasn’t surprising to me but I still couldn’t understand why Bradon was so against my plan.
“Are you in love with the Vulkan family or something? Is that it? Is that why you’re not willing to go along with my plan? You’re scared that it would bring some kind of harm to your family...” I asked as I felt my anger truly taking over.
“Dahlia, I’m in love with my family just as much as you are in love with yours,” he replied calmly.
Which means...
“Then you simply hate them too, don’t you?” I asked as my eyes widened in pleasant surprise.
It felt like I had been worrying about the wrong thing all along. If Bradon wasn’t in love with the Vulkan family then there should be no real problem for him to cooperate with me with my plan. Suddenly, there felt like there was hope and light at the end of the tunnel. At least, that should have been the case. The detached attitude that he had told me that there was something else that was still bothering him.
Seriously, what’s the problem?
“Listen, my plan might bring some hardship for the Vulkans for a while but things will settle down for them soon enough after they find a new aristocratic family to partner with. Basically, what I’m saying is that there’s nothing for you to worry about and it shouldn’t actually matter because you also hate your family, right?” I coaxed sweetly as I tried my best to convince him.
...
**Bradon’s point of view**
Dahlia wasn’t at all stupid but there were times like these when she couldn’t see the answer that was staring her right in the face. Since it seemed to work to my benefit, I didn’t mind keeping silent and letting her speculate and come up with reasons why I’m not willing to assist her with her plan to destroy her family.
She was right that I hated my family. In fact, without Anthony, I wouldn’t ever consider the Vulkans my family. At the same time, if they didn’t have a use for me, then none of them would ever consider me family either. In fact, I doubted that they truly thought of my mother and me as part of the family. That was the harsh truth that I figured out from quite a young age and the truth that my mother had always conveniently avoided to believe to save her own heart from breaking.
Dahlia’s eyes seemed to sparkle with anticipation as she waited for my response to her convincing invitation. If I was being fair, I could say that her plan wasn’t complete nonsense even though it was a very risky one. According to the prince, the king’s health condition had stabilized at least for the time being. With the nature of his disease, no one truly knew when the worst could suddenly strike. As a result of that, all relevant parties were busy preparing for the worst.
Despite the present risks, the king had not voiced his desire to abdicate his throne. Surprisingly, Prince Desmond wasn’t at all in a rush to take over as the next king. I wasn’t sure how Dahlia meeting with the prince could spur him into action and I didn’t have the desire to find out. The prince is a very fickle and calculating person, there was no telling what he would say or do to Dahlia if the two of them met. The fact that he wanted to meet her made everything even more suspicious and gave me a bad feeling.
With everything said and done, I had come to the conclusion that it was better for us to just wait and see. There is a right time for everything and there is no point in striking the iron when it’s not hot. I could understand Dahlia’s frustration at the lack of any progress in her plans; however, I wasn’t sure if I wanted her to achieve her goals even if I am in support of what she wanted to do.
‘So, why don’t we just help each other out so that we can both go our separate ways? When that time comes, we can just pretend that none of this ever happened...’
Recalling her carefree words and that cheerful look that she had on her face made the throbbing pain return back to my chest.
If she succeeds, then she will leave. Once again, she would pretend that nothing ever happened between us. She was so good at doing exactly that, and I knew it better than anyone. Dahlia would laugh and brush things off and leave without looking back. Just like how she left before, as if it was all just nothing to her, she would simply disappear.
