Chapter 203: Reason to Live
Chapter 203: Reason to Live
“Let’s take turns. I want to feed you now,” I said as I took the fork back from his hand.
Bradon frowned slightly at me to show his slight disapparoval but he did not stop me when I began feeding him. I got some sauce on his lips which gave me the opportunity to lightly dab at his lips with a napkin. His blue eyes looked so alluring and captivating as he looked back at me. My heart clenched tightly in my chest and I wondered if things may be different between us had we met under different circumstances as more normal people without any of our complex past.
Wistful thinking wans’t going to change anything, though.
“Bradon...” I called his name softly to get his attention.
“What is it?” he asked dryly the way that I expected that he would.
“What does a person need in order to survive?” I asked.
“Food, water, clothing, sleep, and shelter. The basic necessities for a human to survive,” he replied as if reciting from a book.
I nodded my head slightly a couple of times to show him that I agreed perfectly. Those were indeed the bare necessities required for a human being to continue living. However, I had always wondered if those things were enough to make a person go on living.
“Good. I’m glad you know your facts...” I said before smiling a small smile at him.
Bradon stared at me in silence and I could tell that he was waiting for me to make my point. My smile widened before I let out a soft sigh.
“Those are indeed the things that we’re taught by the book that we need in order to be alive and continue to survive. Then, what do you think we need to ‘feel’ alive?” I asked as I cocked my head slightly to the side in wonder.
“Why are you asking me this?” he asked as his eyes narrowed slightly at me.
“Those things you mentioned are surely enough to keep a person alive, that is...if the person wants to continue living. What do you think makes us want to continue living and breathing?” I asked before making a thoughtful face.
I could feel Bradon’s body tensing close to me and I was glad that I was getting some sort of reaction from him. I wondered if he even realized that there was no way that he could keep me locked up here in his mansion regardless of how well he treated me. There were things that I wanted and they couldn’t be found within the walls of this mansion.
“If you’re thinking of doing anything stupid, I’ll tie you to the bed...” he hissed through clenched teeth.
His hand reached out and gripped my wrist so tightly that I instinctively had to let go of the fork that I had in my hand. My eyes widened in shock as the fork fell down to the grassy ground below.
He doesn’t honestly think that I was about to stab my own neck with that fork, does he?
I stared at the hand that he had around my wrist before turning to stare directly at his face.
“Happiness. I think the simple answer is happiness. I don’t know about you but I think if I’m unhappy all the time, then what’s the purpose of even staying alive? Don’t you think that people want to keep on living only if there’s some sort of happiness or purpose in their lives?” I replied with the answer that I had in mind.
“Dahlia!” he yelled my name as he yanked on my hand to bring it away from my body.
Everything that he had given me more than surpassed the five basic needs for a human benign to survive. There was always too much food and water than I could ever consume. The most luxurious and trendy clothing and accessories were always delivered like clockwork on a daily basis. The massive mansion far surpassed the definition of a basic shelter. Lastly, whether I liked it or not, Bradon ravished me in bed every night until I had no strength left and ended up falling into a deep sleep.
“Chill. I didn’t say that I’m about to...do anything stupid. I’m not sure how or when I want to leave this world, but surely, I won’t make that fork my accomplice,” I said before letting out a low amused laugh.
I thought that he would maintain his cold and undisturbed façade and that was probably why I was so surprised to see him visibly worried and shaken. Before I could control myself, I reached a hand out and cupped the side of his face before I smiled at him.
“Don’t worry. I won’t do anything stupid as long as you’re willing to do what I want you to. That plan that I mentioned before is pretty much a very good purpose for my life right now,” I said as I stared deeply into his captivating blue eyes.
His eyes are so beautiful and his blond lashes are so long...
“I’ll put you under watch,” he stated after a moment of silence.
I was quite disappointed at the conclusion that he had reached after that entire lecture that I had given him on how he should be treating me.
“How would that help with anything? I mean, I’m already under watch all the time. Did you think that I wouldn’t know? That girl, Bella, she’s not just some regular maid is she?” I asked accusingly.
“It’s good if you’re aware. Saves me from explaining anything,” he replied dryly.
I scoffed loudly because he wasn’t even trying to deny it. I knew that something was very off when Bella was suddenly assigned to serve me personally based on his orders. Since I liked her and her company, I didn’t think much of it and enjoyed having her by my side. The way she reacted when that maid approached me to give me the present made me feel like she wasn’t just a maid but rather more like one of the bodyguards. Although she was a young woman, the vibe she gave off at that moment was exactly like all the bodyguards that I’ve had before.
