Chapter 200: Special Delivery
Chapter 200: Special Delivery
I shook my head slightly to myself before letting out a soft sigh as I placed a hand over my lower abdomen. The throbbing ache that I felt there told me that this might actually be worse than when we first started. Bradon didn’t just revert to his old self, it was much worse now than before. His mood had gotten darker and so did the way that he ravished my body. Every night Bradon would visit my bedroom without fail and we would end up doing it until I could no longer go on. When I wake up the following morning, he would be gone and everything would feel like a twisted and perverted nightmare. Only the love marks and the ache between my legs lived on as proof of our steamy nightly affairs.
“Master Bradon told me to let you know that he will be back early to have dinner with you today,” Bella said as if it was supposed to be a good thing.
“Ok...” I murmured emotionlessly.
“Is there something that I can help you with? The weather is so nice today so I was thinking that it might be fun to take a stroll in the gardens...” Bella suggested brightly.
“Sure...” I replied in short.
“Some new books came in today along with a bunch of jewelry...” Bella reported excitedly before trailing off.
She must have realized that I wasn’t at all interested in anything that Bradon had purchased and ordered to be sent over to me. What’s the point of having new books if I’m not in the mood to read? What’s the point of sending me jewelry if I won’t have the chance to wear them because I’m no longer allowed to leave the mansion?
I swung my legs off the side of the bed while wondering if I could actually walk properly.
Probably not...
“Wait a bit for me. I’ll shower and then we can take that stroll in the garden,” I said before trying my best to shape my lips into something that may pass as a smile.
“Of course. Please let me know if you need any help,” Bella replied obediently.
“Thanks...” I murmured as I made my way towards the bathroom.
I thanked her for all the attentive things that she’d done to take care of me, but most of all, I thanked her silently in my mind for not asking any questions. That was the best thing about Bella and the other staff in the house. They went about their duties without raising any inconvenient questions. Bella must be well aware of my current relationship with Bradon but she never commented on it.
...
“Is something going on over there?” I asked.
“I think they’re redecorating the garden over there. Are they being too noisy? Should I go and warn them?” Bella asked with widened eyes.
“It’s fine. Let’s just go somewhere else instead. The garden is large enough...” I muttered in reply.
My life was now contained in a golden cage bustling with maids who were all out to help serve my needs. Bradon made sure that my life was nothing less like that of a rich princess. He sent gifts to me daily and Bella’s job was to report to me what he had sent. I was served with too much food for all my meals, undoubtedly at his order. I could do whatever I wanted as long as I remained within the walls of his mansion. Basically, I could get everything that I wanted except for the one thing that I truly wanted: My freedom.
“Excuse me...” a timid voice suddenly spoke up from behind me.
I turned around to see the face of an unfamiliar maid. Bella immediately moved in front of me as if to guard me from danger. I did not recognize her face but that wasn’t at all unusual. There were so many people working here that it wasn’t surprising that I couldn’t remember them all.
“It’s ok, Bella. Are you here to see me?” I asked the maid after assuring Bella that everything is fine.
Bella looked hesitant but decided to back away so that I could converse with the other woman. I hadn’t noticed the box that she was holding with her hands until she thrusted it towards me while bowing her head respectfully.
“I was told to deliver a special gift to you,” she said.
“Didn’t all the gifts for today already arrive this morning?” Bella asked suspiciously.
“This one was delayed and didn’t arrive on time along with the rest,” the maid replied calmly.
“Alright. I’ll take it, so you can go back to your work. Let’s not make a big fuss out of something so insignificant,” I said while hating how tired I sounded.
I stared at the box that I now held in my hand. The box weighed decently heavy and I wondered what was inside. After thinking that it must be another present from Bradon, I completely lost interest.
“Diana, aren’t you going to open it?” Bella asked, a little excitedly.
“You can put it somewhere along with the rest of the stuff that came in today,” I instructed as I passed the box to her.
“I think you should open it. It might be a very special present...” she said before smiling at me.
I sighed in resignation when I realized that Bella might die from unfulfilled curiosity if I didn’t open the box. My hand moved to undo the bow as Bella watched on with clear excitement. Unlike Bella, I wasn’t at all excited or interested in the content of the box. Opening the box just seemed like the easiest and fastest way to get Bella to move on and go about her other duties.
“Oh....it’s a book...” she murmured when I unveiled the gift from the box.
I could tell from her tone of voice that she was clearly disappointed that the present that had been sent was nothing but a regular-looking hardcover book. She must have been expecting something much fancier. I stared down at the book while I wondered why Bradon had chosen to send me this book separate from the others that were simply stocked into the library.
