Chapter 963: The Rat Battalion’s Here To Save The Day
Chapter 963: The Rat Battalion’s Here To Save The Day
Han Yu shot forward and slammed the hammer of Abyssal Frost Qi down upon the ritual anchor.
BOOM!
The impact shook the ground as cracks spread across the frozen earth and shards of black frost scattered everywhere. Yet when the dust settled the totem still stood. Only a thin crack had appeared upon its surface.
Han Yu narrowed his eyes.
"It is too tough!"
He immediately gathered more Abyssal Frost Qi.
Darkness spread through the freezing energy and another hammer formed in the air, larger than before. He brought it down again.
BOOM!
The totem shook.
A second crack appeared.
But the pillar of light above continued rising toward the heavens.
Nearby Madam Cold Fang was still battling Yongnian. The transformed Frost Bat screeched and swept his wings. Thousands of frost shards burst outward. Madam Cold Fang answered with icy claws that tore through the attack and shattered half the mountain beneath them.
The two moved so fast Han Yu could barely follow.
The air itself had frozen.
Clouds were turning into snow.
The forest below had already become white.
Han Yu ignored the battle and struck again.
BOOM!
Another hammer.
Another impact.
His spirit Qi was draining quickly.
The anchor resisted every strike.
He gritted his teeth.
"Break already!"
He raised both hands.
Three hammers appeared at once.
They descended together.
KABOOM!
Finally...
KACHA!
The totem shattered.
The pillar of blue light vanished instantly.
Han Yu breathed heavily.
One down.
Only dozens left.
Unfortunately reality hit him immediately.
Yongnian laughed while breathing out an enormous beam of icy mist.
"Its useless!" he shouted.
The beam swept toward Madam Cold Fang.
She moved aside and swept her hands upward.
A gigantic wall of ice rose from the earth and intercepted the attack.
The mountains trembled.
"Even if you destroy a few it will never end!" Yongnian laughed madly.
Han Yu clenched his fists.
He knew it too.
The anchors were too far apart.
Even flying at his maximum speed would take far too long.
There were simply too many.
For the first time since the ritual started... Han Yu felt helpless.
Then a familiar voice rang inside his head.
"Fear not master!"
"The Rat Battalion shall save the day!"
Han Yu froze.
"Chitterfang?"
The next moment loud squeaks erupted across the forests.
The ground moved.
The snow shifted.
And then...
Rats.
Thousands.
Tens of thousands.
They poured from holes, tree roots, snowbanks and tunnels.
Large ones.
Small ones.
Grey ones.
Red ones.
Ordinary rodents.
Mutated rodents.
Creatures that barely resembled rats anymore.
They surged like tides.
Han Yu burst into laughter.
"That’s right!"
The Rat Battalion had spread throughout the region long ago. Chitterfang’s children had covered forests, villages and ritual zones while gathering information. Most of the anchors were already inside their territory.
And now they had orders.
Destroy.
The rats rushed fearlessly.
They climbed the totems.
They bit.
Gnawed.
Scratched.
Threw themselves against the anchors without hesitation.
Neither Madam Cold Fang nor Yongnian understood what was happening.
Five minutes later... A second pillar vanished.
Then a third.
"What?"
Yongnian’s laughter stopped.
Another disappeared.
Then two more.
His head snapped around.
"No..."
Madam Cold Fang also looked into the distance.
Her eyes sharpened.
She focused on the nearest pillar.
Then she saw it.
Hundreds of rats swarming over the anchor.
She slowly turned toward Han Yu.
"Rats?" she muttered.
Her expression became strange.
"Just how many rats does he have?"
She had expected several.
Maybe a dozen.
Instead entire battalions were appearing.
And that was only one site.
Across the entire ritual circle similar scenes were happening.
Minute after minute...
More pillars vanished.
Yongnian finally panicked.
"How is this possible?!"
"WHO IS DOING THIS?!"
Madam Cold Fang immediately pressed the advantage.
Her claws tore into his wings.
Blood sprayed.
The Frost Bat crashed through the ground.
Another pillar vanished.
Then another.
The enormous smiling figure in the sky flickered.
The Eternal Smiling Ancestor’s outline distorted.
Its smile twitched.
The spring above the heavens began shaking.
Ten minutes later...
Only two pillars remained.
The ritual circle was collapsing.
The smiling reflection flickered violently.
Yongnian looked up.
His eyes widened.
"NOOOOOOO!"
His scream shook the mountains.
Then madness appeared.
He stopped resisting.
Instead he exploded upward.
His wings beat once.
The ground collapsed beneath him.
He shot straight toward the giant smiling spring in the sky.
"Ancestor!"
His voice became a screech.
"LET ME BE YOUR VESSEL!"
Madam Cold Fang’s expression changed completely.
"STOP HIM!"
She burst upward.
Han Yu reacted instantly.
Black Abyssal Frost erupted from behind him. Jets of freezing darkness and red flames blasted outward.
He shot into the sky at full speed.
Above them Yongnian flew faster and faster.
The Eternal Smiling Ancestor’s flickering image watched silently.
The giant smile widened.
Han Yu felt dread rise.
If Yongnian merged with that thing... Everything they had done would become meaningless.
Madam Cold Fang raised both hands.
Gigantic icy fangs appeared around her.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
They shot toward Yongnian.
He laughed.
His body twisted.
The attacks missed.
The smiling spring was only meters away now.
Han Yu pushed harder.
His veins hurt.
Abyssal Frost Qi exploded around him.
He remembered the words Madam Cold Fang had spoken.
The Freezing Abyss Glacial Art could suppress the Eternal Smiling Ancestor.
That meant...
Only he could stop this.
Han Yu gathered every bit of Abyssal Frost Qi he had.
The darkness around him condensed.
A spear formed.
Ten meters.
Twenty.
Thirty.
Pitch black.
Cold enough to freeze the air itself.
He gripped it.
Then hurled it.
WHOOSH
The spear screamed through the sky.
Straight toward Yongnian’s back.
At the same moment...
The Eternal Smiling Ancestor opened its eyes fully.
The spear reached its target at the exact moment the Eternal Smiling Ancestor fully awakened.
SCREEECH!
The sky shook.
The giant smiling bat opened its eyes completely.
Its pupils were empty.
Its smile stretched wider.
At that very instant Han Yu’s spear arrived.
BOOOOM!
The enormous spear of Abyssal Frost Qi pierced straight through Yongnian’s back.
Blood exploded into the air.
