Chapter 72: Stronger Feelings
Chapter 72: Stronger Feelings
"Stanley, go to the back. Call us if someone tries to sneak away from that direction," Garry ordered. "The two of us will deal in front."
Stanley nodded and quickly ran off to go around the place to the road that was behind the house. He waited there, listening to the two of them handle the front side.
He could barely hear Garry’s voice at all. A moment later, he heard some noise as a man jumped a fence behind the house, landing on the road next to Stanley.
The man was in his later 30s, if not early 40s, and was in no way very fit to be running around.
"Sir, please cooperate, and don’t run away," Stanley said as soon as the man was up on his feet.
"Shit!" the man shouted. He immediately turned left and ran away.
Stanley was ready, so he ran toward the man. He was so fast that he arrived next to the man in just 2 seconds. He jumped and grabbed onto the man, only to go through him and fall on the other side.
The man continued running without stopping at all and kept going. Stanley was about to run after him when he stopped as he remembered something.
Stanley paused for a moment as he looked at the man. His first thought was that the man had a power that was the same as his brother. It had surprised him when he had gone through the man.
However, now that he had stopped, he remembered what he was told before coming here. He was told the powers of the people that would be in that house.
The woman in there had the power to control the ground and dirt to a certain extent. One of the men had the ability to turn the excess fluids in his body into a certain type of glue that was decently powerful enough to stick two things together.
And the last man there had the power to create an illusionary double of himself that he could somewhat control within a small distance. In exchange for that, however, he himself went invisible for a few seconds.
Stanley immediately stood up and ran in the other direction of the man that ran away. After all, that was the illusion.
Stanley couldn’t see the man but there was nowhere to go on this road but straight ahead. He ran while trying to listen to any footsteps or see any movement amongst the dirt on the ground or the pieces of paper hanging by the houses.
The darkness didn’t help much, but the man wouldn’t remain invisible for that long.
Stanley stopped when he heard something before he even got very far away. It wasn’t footsteps but rather the haggard breathing of a man that couldn’t run for long.
"Sir, wherever you are. Please don’t make this difficult," Stanley said. He looked in the direction where the sound was coming from, but he still couldn’t see the man.
Just then a feeling came to Stanley. It was a danger warning that was just that much more potent than anything else he had before he had gone into the coma.
Stanley didn’t know why, but ever since he had come out of the coma, his danger warning had gotten a little stronger than before.
He had only been warned twice since then, and they were both while he was training with his weak body. They had warned his fall both times, which he couldn’t avoid with how weak and tired he had been after training for so long.
That had been very weird to Stanley. Both of the warnings had been about him falling, and Stanley had known that it was about him falling both times.
This time, the warning spoke of something vague, yet with enough information that Stanley could act.
Something was going to hit the left side of the face.
With the warning, came a flood of panic and energy. There was also a hint of memory resurfacing in his mind, but they didn’t distract him at all this time around.
Without hesitation, Stanley moved his head to the right and something went flying past him. He heard a loud thud behind him as a small rock rebounded off of the wall and fell next to him.
"Leave me alone!" the man’s voice came from in front of him. Stanley could hear him running toward him while still invisible.
’A punch to the head?’ he wondered. Something was going to attack his head, which he assumed was either going to be a punch or just a grab based on how heavy the footsteps were. Those were not kicks in any way.
Stanley crouched at the last moment without seeing anything at all. He braced for impact as he heard the man running up to him and let the man trip on him.
The man fell to the ground with a thud and started grunting in pain. Stanley quickly turned around and searched for him based on the noise he heard.
The man’s painful grunts easily led him to him, who he quickly tied up using a rope he carried. The man slowly started becoming visible again by the time Stanley pulled him up and saw that his face had scratches from falling on his face.
"Why are you doing this?" the man asked. "Do you not understand what we’re trying to achieve here?"
"I do not," Stanley said simply and started walking away with the man. The man struggled a bit, but Stanley was too strong for him to do anything.
"We’re just trying to save people. We’re just trying to save our kids," the man said. "Is it so bad?"
Stanley thought for a bit. "And how will you do that?" he asked.
The man saw hope. "If we can get rid of the mayor, we can establish a system of our own," he quickly said. "Don’t you think that’s a great idea? We can do what we want without having to follow the stupid rules written by those that have been dead for over a hundred years now."
