Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 277: Easy Scouting

Chapter 277: Easy Scouting

"I’ve tried following them, but they always lose me," Reena spoke amongst the crowd that had gathered in the room.

Gray, Four of The 5, Sheila, and the other 3 fighters sat around the room, as they listened to Reena’s information.

"There have been multiple people in multiple locations that have suddenly disappeared. I don’t know where they go and I can’t follow them. Garina Slatwork is the last one I saw. I don’t know if she’s left yet or not. We’ll have to see later and have someone follow."

"I’ll do it," Sheila said. Her powers had stopped working already. "I should be ready in 5 more hours. I will stake her the entire time tomorrow."

Reena nodded. "We need to know exactly what is going on, and I don’t think you alone will be enough," she said. "Gray, you’ll have to go with her. Find out more."

Gray shrugged. "Sure. I have nothing else to do anyway," he said.

Leopold frowned a little and spoke. "So this Silent Nexus group, they are the ones responsible for the explosion?" he asked.

"Maybe, maybe not," Gray answered. "Everyone talked about something big happening in Voras for a long time now, and we followed what thread we could find to come here."

"We might have been misled and the big thing might have been the explosion, but something tells me something else is still going on here."

"These politicians and businessmen coming here and disappearing is not normal at all. We’ll have to find what is going on here," Gray said.

"Okay," Mona said. "But why do we have to come here? Aside from Hank, you called the rest of The 5 here."

"That’s because we’re dealing with one of the biggest underground organizations in recent history," Gray said in a solemn voice. "These guys have ties to every other criminal organization, and from what I can tell, they have someone or something that can improve the power of another person."

"With so many outsiders getting improvements to their powers, there is no way in hell that their organization is left behind. We’ll have crazy strong people to fight and I don’t know if I alone could’ve done it."

"Don’t sell yourself short," Droon said. "But alright, we’ll have to help."

"I’ll go get my short sleep. We’ll go out later in the evening once my powers are back. Then after that, we’ll return and go back out tomorrow."

Sheila left to prepare.

Around evening, Gray and Sheila left the building in secret with her powers already activated for the next 6 hours. With Gray next to her, it would only last for 3 hours in total with a downtime of another 6 hours.

"Are you sure cameras can’t get you? Not even thermal ones?" Gray asked.

"Only sound does," Sheila said softly. "And lower your voice."

"Oh, don’t worry. Nobody can hear us even if it is quiet right now," Gray said. "So, can the camera see you?"

"No," Sheila said. "As long as it’s not something pressure-sensitive, we should be fine."

"That’s convenient. I’ll still hide us from the thermal cameras," Gray said and did something. Whatever he did, Sheila couldn’t tell.

They quickly arrived in front of a hotel and instead of walking in, Gray started flying them up.

Sheila continued to wonder exactly what Gray’s powers were after all these years. Was he ever going to tell him?

"Nice!" he said softly. "Reena’s information was correct."

Sheila couldn’t see anything yet. It was only after landing on the balcony that she noticed a dark-skinned woman slouched on her couch, looking through her phone.

"Well, there she is. What do we do now?" Gray asked out loud. Sheila couldn’t help but grimace at the volume of his voice. She was used to making sure she was absolutely silent each time she scouted, but this was so much different.

"Now, we sit and gather what information we can," she said and got herself comfortable on the floor. Surprisingly, the air was warm there despite the coldness that should be Voras

’Novas really are wonderful,’ she thought.

"What?" Gray couldn’t believe it. "That’s so boring. Why not just go and question her?"

"Well..." Sheila thought for a moment. "That can work, but don’t we need her to lead us to where all the others go?"

"We don’t need her to be oblivious about it," Gray said. "Follow my lead."

The window opened and Gray walked in, holding Sheila behind him. He arrived by the couch and spoke. "Garina Slatework, I assume," he said softly, causing the woman to panic.

However, no matter how she tried, she couldn’t move.

"Your life and death are in my hands. Don’t try to do anything funny," Gray said. "If you even try to speak, I will kill you right now. I will show no remorse when killing a criminal like you."

The woman nodded ever so slightly.

"Do you know the Silent Nexus?"

The woman slowly nodded again.

"Are they taking you somewhere?" he asked.

She nodded.

"Tomorrow?" he asked.

She nodded again.

"Speak, woman. I didn’t cut off your tongue!"

"Yes!" the girl spoke, fear clear in her voice.

"Where are they taking you?" he asked.

"To... to a place, I don’t know where," she answered.

"What will you be doing there?" he asked her. "What exactly are the Silent Nexus planning with you all?"

"We are going to watch the death game," she said with her eyes closed. "People are fighting to their death on an island. We’re going to watch them and bid on who survives to earn some money."

"A what?" Gray asked. "Give me more information."

Both Gray and Sheila were surprised to learn what they heard next. A game where people killed each other for money and a chance to improve their powers. None of them had any idea that even existed.

"When does it happen?" Gray asked.

"It already is," the woman said. "It’s been 3 weeks since it started."

"I see," Gray said. He thought for a bit and nodded to himself. "Here’s what you’ll do."
