Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 276: Gray’s Task

Chapter 276: Gray’s Task

Gray sat in a room, leaning against the wall, looking at a tablet that was not connected to any network. The doors and windows of the room were drawn shut, and Reena slept next to him, doing her job as a scout.

Gray looked at the list of names on the tablet and frowned.

There were Angela Crawford, Davis Traught, Herman Staker, and many more important names who were either high-level political figures, top-level businessmen, or big names from the underworld.

He had followed a trail all the way to the west of Voras, and here it had vanished again.

He had been here for a week now. Having come 2 days before the explosion in the east, he wanted to go there and help them. But this task felt more important.

He was on a lead to find some of the biggest criminals in history, and if he did it, the world would be all the better place for it.

"Where do they keep disappearing to?" he spoke in an annoyed tone.

Reena had named nearly 18 people now and all of them had disappeared from the city, all from different locations. She still couldn’t figure out exactly how that was happening and was searching for it.

Unfortunately, Reena wasn’t very good at this form of scouting.

Her powers allowed her to project a non-physical, invisible body to a certain location within a very generously large area. However, once projected, the body could only move within a 30-meter radius of that location, both vertically and horizontally.

When it came to regular scouting, where the criminals had a hideout and a place they gathered, she could sneak in and gather all the information in a session or two. She took a week to be certain of all the information, but if she was desperate enough, she could do it in just one.

However, in this situation, where she didn’t know where to look, she couldn’t project herself to the required location.

Using the city’s surveillance network to see where everyone went would’ve been so much easier, but since there was someone very talented with networks on the enemy’s side, they couldn’t dare take any chances.

"Garina... stalewolk?" a mumbly voice escaped Reena.

"What was that?" Gray brought his attention to her, but Reena had stopped talking. "Garina... something?"

He quickly looked at the list of names again and searched for a Garina. There were thousands of Garina, but he quickly filtered down the list to people that were either important enough for Reena to recognize or had a last name that started with an S.

Quickly, he narrowed it down to a few, and from there used his guesswork to find the real name.

"Garina Slatework, part of the head council in the Vandalizers," Gray thought. Even the weapons dealers were getting involved now. Just what was happening here?

Had she just arrived? Or had Reena just noticed her? Would she be leaving again?

He needed to follow them, but he didn’t know where she was. Only Reena would know who they were and Reena still had 20 minutes before her powers came off and she could come back.

Just then, he felt some movement outside the house. He could feel them interfering with his aura. A curious look appeared on his face and he swiftly made his way to the door, making no noise in the process.

The camera on the door showed what was outside his house, which was nothing but emptiness. But Gray could tell there were people outside.

He smiled and opened the door.

"I’m happy that you decided to join me," he said as he walked outside. There was nobody standing there, or so it seemed. If one focused a bit too hard, they could see something in the air that wasn’t just right.

"Let us enter first," a voice said and Gray felt the group walk through the door.

Gray stretched on the outside, acting as if he had come out for nothing, before walking in.

When he shut the door, people started appearing out one by one.

Mona was the first to appear, her soft blue hair colorful even in the dimly lit room. Ella walked away next, her shoulder-length black hair tied in a ponytail.

Leopold slowly walked out next, the middle-aged man looking 10 years younger than he was. As someone who was obsessed with keeping good health, his body was ripped and his muscles showed through his tightly worn clothes. He quickly got rid of the gloves he was wearing and stepped away from the people.

Droon slowly walked out next. A bald man with no eyebrows, and a mask similar to what Gray wore.

3 more people came out, each an excellent fighter in their own right, but none that could compare to The 5 or Gray.

With the final figure still concealed in her power, it seemed a total of 8 newcomers had arrived from the AAA.

"Thank you, Shiela, for bringing them all here," Gray said, looking toward her. He could see her as well as one could without their eyes.

"You did sound desperate on the call," Sheila’s voice came from the concealed figure. "I hope we weren’t late."

"I don’t know," Gray said. "Let us hope not."

"I expect a proper explanation, little brother," Leopold said.

"I will," Gray said. "Settle down for now."

Everyone nodded and left. As they walked away, Gray went next to Sheila and spoke to her in a whisper. "What of Stanley?" he asked. "Was he really dead?"

Sheila shook her head. "I can’t tell. There is a record of him being dead and being cremated, and it seems real. But there is something off about it all."

"Like?" Gray asked.

"He’s a Nova with a strong body," Sheila said. "I can’t imagine him dying at all in the first place. But even if he did, why would they cremate him within hours of finding his body? Some corpses found far from the blast zone weren’t cremated for nearly 2 days."

"It all seems just so off. I just refuse to believe he’s dead."

Gray nodded and patted her head. "Stay strong," he said. "I need you here."
