Chapter 221: The 4 Gangs
Chapter 221: The 4 Gangs
Nova walked out of the room and gestured for everyone to leave.
Sol finished his smoke and crushed it beneath his feet before following Nova.
Fred let go of the guy he had been holding at gunpoint, pushing him toward Nova as she made her way there.
"I will need the information by 11, got it?" she asked the man.
"Wh-what?" the man looked up confused.
"Find out what from the old man inside," Nova said and continued walking away. Fred followed her as well and finally, they arrived outside the apartment door where Stanley was staying guard.
He looked around calmly as Nova walked out.
"All done?" he asked.
"All done," Nova said. "I’ll keep your watch from now on. You should be fine with that right??"
Stanley looked at the watch on his hand, belonging to a man known as Grime, the man he had killed yesterday. "Yes, he had quite a bit of money," he said.
"Ooh! Rich, aren’t we?" Nova said jokingly and started walking away. "They will be contacting me through this watch, so I’ll have to keep it for now."
"Alright," Fred said walking to the elevator with Nova as they all walked in. "Remind me again how you know this guy?"
"Previous connection," Nova said. "Lets just say he knew my parents."
"Damn, to know a Senator, your parents must have been quite rich, boss. Or influential at least," Fred said.
"Not in the least," Nova said. "They just happened to be from the same cult."
"Cult?" Fred asked. "Damn! The Senator is part of a cult?"
"There are many that are part of various cults," Nova explained. "Senators, judges, officers with high rank, CEOs of big companies. They are all in cults or have their hands in the underground."
"You’ll have a harder time finding an innocent one honestly," Nova said.
"Damn! So fucking corrupt," Fred said. "I knew they weren’t all good, but to think they would be in cults. A goddamn cult."
"Stop shouting already," Nova said. "Do you want others to hear you?"
"Ahem, no," he said, shutting down. The elevator opened at the bottom of the building and they walked out of it with ease.
They got to their car that was parked close by and made their way back to the Lows.
"So, about the cult," Fred continued. He was simply too interested to stop at this point.
"Yes, everyone is from a cult," she said.
"No, not that," Fred said. "If your parents are from a cult then are you from a cult as well?"
"Was," Nova said. "I left it after... some disagreement, lets just say."
"Will you be returning there?" Fred asked.
"Never," she said.
"I see," Fred said. "One last question. What was the name of the cult?"
"The Azure Clan," Nova said.
"The Azure Clan..." Fred thought to himself. "I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it before."
"If wouldn’t be a working cult if you had heard of it before," Nova said with a chuckle. "Do you know how hard it is for a cult to survive in this day and age, with all the hates they get."
"Makes sense," Fred said. "Who’s the Nova of the clan?"
"You said one last question. You are out of questions now."
"What? Come on! Please tell me," Fred said, wanting to learn more.
Stanley had a weird look on his face when he heard the conversation. He was lost in his own thought.
A cult was something that formed around a Nova. It was a group of people that took the Nova as their god and did anything to increase the chance of them being bigshots in the future.
He looked at Nova and was surprised to hear that she had been raised in such a place. Now that he thought about it, she had mentioned that she was from a cult to him before.
How her parents believed that naming her Nova would most likely give her that power.
He couldn’t help but wonder what his life would’ve been if his parents were born under a cult as well. Or rather, what would happen if someone found out he was a Nova and decided to form a cult around him.
He would’ve been indoctrinated with beliefs that were not his own, knowledge curated for him and decisions that would never be his.
He despised the thought of ever being in a cult, especially as its figure head.
’... the Darkwing clan was a cult as well, right?’ he thought. He remembered the town that he called his home, that the others called a farm.
"Does the Azure Clan have a farm as well?" Stanley asked.
"I said only one question," Nova said. "I’m not—"
"Nova!" Stanley asked sternly. "Please answer me."
Nova turned and looked at his serious look with surprise. "What’s wrong with you? Why are you so serious?" she asked.
"Does the Azure Clan have a farm or not?" he asked.
"Farm... do you mean that kind of farm?" Nova asked seriously.
Stanley nodded.
"No," Nova said. "They don’t. Hell, I don’t know if there are even any farms in this day and age."
"Are you sure?" Stanley asked.
"Absolutely," Nova said. "No farm of any sort. Why do you ask?"
"Let’s just say I have an irrational hate of human farms," Stanley said.
"Curious," Nova said. "I don’t remember reading anything about any farms from what I could find."
"That’s because not everything about me is on the digital space for you to enjoy," Stanley said.
"Well, no need to turn into a ball of enigma all of a sudden," Nova said and turned around. She called Vera and waited for her to pick it up.
"No files yet," Vera answered as soon as she took the call.
"I know," Nova said. "I just need you to be ready for it, so get some sleep for now."
"I’ve been trying to," she said. "But I’m too scared to sleep."
"We’ll be there soon," Nova said. "By the way, can you contact someone to fix the wall that John left behind yesterday?"
"Ok," Vera said. "But you’re paying for it."
"No, John will," Nova said and turned around. "Won’t you, John?"
"I... fine," Stanley said. "Just pay for it now. I’ll send you the money later."
"You heard him," she said. "Also, order us some food. Light food that will keep us energized throughout the day. We have some work to do."
They arrived a while later. Nova received a message from the Senator’s ward and quickly went to find Vera to find out.
Sol, Stanley and Fred stayed outside, waiting for the food to arrive.
"Damn this is cold," Fred said. "Its almost like the heater isn’t even working."
"It won’t do much until the hole in the wall is fixed," Sol said.
"Is there no shield to protect us from temperature?" Fred asked with an annoyed face. "I have being in the cold."
"Its not physically possible," Sol said. "With how much a shield flickers around in a single moment, the cold air will always get in."
Nova walked back out. "What the hell are you guys talking about?" she asked, hearing their conversation.
"Fred says its cold, nothing else," Sol said.
"I can’t help it okay?" Fred asked. "I’m originally not from here in the first place. I’m from Pandene. We are used to living in the heat there. I’m actually more surprised John here isn’t complaining about the cold. Aren’t you from Franoss? Your place is a fucking desert."
Stanley looked at Fred, surprised to suddenly be part of the conversation. "I... my body is strong enough so that the heat doesn’t effect me at all," he said. "I could walk around with normal clothes in the cold and I would be fine."
"Dammit!" Fred shouted. "You’re one lucky fucker. Anyway, when is the food coming? I need something hot in my system right now."
"Go to your room if its cold!" Sol shouted.
"Huh? And miss my food?" Fred asked. "Hell no! All that waking up since last night has gotten be fcking hungry. I’m gonna wait for the food right here."
The food arrived a while later and Vera walked out to take her portion to her room. After she was gone, Nova started speaking about the matters of the day.
"So, I have some good news," she said.
"What sort of good news is this?" Fred asked curiously.
"The sort that makes you pump your fist in excitement," Nova said. "Have you heard of the Yorfa gang, Demonspawns,Flintlocks, and Gunblazers?"
"Of course," Fred said. "I’ve been in the Low for a few weeks already. Its hard not to know those names. They’re like some of the top gangs in the place, aren’t they?"
"They are," Nova said with a smile.
"So... what’s the good news? Are those gangs dead or something?" Fred asked.
"Better," Nova said.
"Better than dead gangsters?" Fred frowned a little. "What is better than dead gangsters? He asked.
"Ones that are under us," Nova said.
"What... do you mean?" Fred asked with a cuious look. Even Sol and Stanley stopped eating and turned to look at Nova to see what she was talking about.
Nova grinned with a wide smile on her face and repeated what she had just said.
"The Yorfa gang, Demonspawns, Flintlocks, and Gunblazers are all now under us," Nova said. "I am their leader now."
"Wh-what?"
"How did that happen?" Sol asked.
"The Senator was their secret leader," Nova said. "After a bit of a persuasion, he decided to hand over their reins to me. I now own all the 4 gangs."
