Chapter 217: Run Out
Chapter 217: Run Out
Stanley looked at the man in front of him. He was sure that this man had no good intentions at all. He activated his future sight to be careful and was immediately presented with a blur of figures that all were seemingly the man in front of him.
The man stood there in his regular visions, but in his future visions, he was all over the place. There were not tens or hundreds, but rather thousands of afterimages of the man all that did things that he couldn’t comprehend.
Every moment the vision changed, more afterimages growing from the previous afterimages.
The future was chaos that he could not quantify at all.
"Urgh!" he stumbled back in pain, his eyes seemingly burning with a metaphysical pain. Stanley could not understand what pain this was.
’What was that?’ he thought, not understanding what had happened. Every person he saw previously always had a single future. But somehow, this man in front of him had so many futures that he had gotten hurt instead.
Just as he was wondering what was happening, he was shot in the chest by the man, making him stumble once again.
The gunshot hit him right where the knife had stabbed him, annoying flaring up the pain that had started to die a little.
He fell back on his chest and quickly got back up. He was at least now sure that he couldn’t be killed with a gunshot. Still, it burned his skin, which would definitely cause a scar that would last long enough until he made his way back to Amy.
He looked back at the man in front of him who had a confused look on his face. The man shot his gun again and Stanley slowed down time to escape.
As time slowed down, he moved to the side, getting out of the way of the attack. However, halfway through his dodge, the time flowed back to normal and the plasma bullet went past his ear, leaving a buzzing sound.
Stanley and the man were both confused for entirely different reasons.
The man was confused because Stanley had not only somehow survived a gunshot to the chest, but he had also somehow dodged a bullet at an inhuman speed.
As for Stanley, he was simply confused why his powers weren’t working like he wanted to. It was fine until a moment ago, but for some reason, it wasn’t working anymore.
Future vision showed a mess and his slowed time sped up on its own. He wasn’t even getting warnings about the gunshots anymore.
He could not tell just what was happening.
However, now was not the time to worry, he quickly got up and activated his future vision to make sure, but this time around the vision didn’t even work.
He couldn’t tell what was happening or what was causing this problem. He couldn’t help but wonder for a moment if the man in front of him had the power to disturb his own powers.
But if that were the case, then his physical strength would have wavered as well. That was definitely not the case.
But, he also realized that he couldn’t tell the rate of time anymore. Neither could he change the perception of time for the other guy.
Then... was he growing old faster once again as well?
’My powers aren’t working,’ he thought. ’Did I run out of Soul energy somehow?’
That was a terrible situation if that were true. After all, a Nova had no method of creating his own Soul Energy and instead used the souls of others that died around him to gather the energy.
It was only when the energy reached a certain level that his own power evolved or increased. If he didn’t have any powers then... he would have to spend a long time gathering his energy again.
That was going to push back his time for revenge.
Stanley got angry and rushed at the man who shot him again. He dodged what he could while reaching for the man.
The man reached into his back and pulled out something. A small rod that quickly glowed with red light flashed in front of him.
Stanley stopped at the last moment, pulling his hands back before the light was going to cut him. It was a plasma knife or a plasma short sword. It was the same thing that he had used in the town for the first time and had to be careful.
Until the gun, this one had a continuous supply of plasma and was thus supremely dangerous.
Stanley lowered to the ground and tried to go for a kick, but it seemed the man had expected it and stepped back in time. He swung his sword at Stanley’s leg, which Stanley dodged by quickly pulling back his leg.
The man used his gun to shoot him again. Stanley dodged it and went for the man. The man dodged, letting Stanley move past him while pulling the trigger at the same time.
Another gunshot hit Stanley in the left ankle, the one he was pivoting around.
Stanley felt the burning pain of the wound and wanted to run back to the man. He tried to slow down time before the next gunshot and it didn’t work at all.
As expected, he had run out of Soul energy. He could only fight the man as someone with no powers aside from a strong body.
He was capable of fighting normally, but the man seemed just as capable as well. He did not let Stanley get close to him at all and predicted most of his attacks, retaliating at the right moment against him instead.
All Stanley could do was try to fight and dodge while constantly stepping around the man’s attacking, slowly moving away from the location.
The man tried his best to kill Stanley before the others realized they were fighting. Thankfully, even though the young man in front of him had good defensive skills, when it came to the offensive, he won.
