Chapter 209: The Brawlers
Chapter 209: The Brawlers
"Hey! The food is here!" Someone knocked on Stanley’s door.
Stanley quickly got out of bed, slightly tired feeling as if he wasn’t able to fall asleep and had instead ended up thinking about many irrelevant matters.
He sighed and washed his face before walking out to the hall.
Fred got back to his seat and Nova quickly waved at Stanley. "John! Come get some food before we leave," she said.
Stanley sat on one of the empty chairs and grabbed a fork before dragging a bit of the foot onto his plate. "Leave?" he asked. "Are we going somewhere?"
"Close by," Nova said. "Gonna go take over a small gang and have them join us."
"Huh!" Stanley said slightly. "You’re gonna make another gang join us? Will that even work?"
"Of course, it will," Nova said. "Didn’t you see how many guns we have?"
"I did," Stanley said. "But I didn’t think that... never mind. How big is this gang? Anything to worry about?"
"Just the boss I would say, but that won’t be much of a problem," Nova said.
"Okay," Stanley said and started eating.
Sol and Fred were there so Nova started telling them what they were going to do. They were going to walk over to the gang that had a lair close by and threaten them into submission.
Stanley didn’t find the job that difficult aside from the fact that none of them really knew how many people there were exactly and what sort of powers they had.
None of them was a scout after all.
"Can we trust this information?" Stanley asked after hearing the plan. "Where is this information coming from?"
"Vera," Nova said. "Ah, in case you haven’t found out, Vera is our informant. She kinda has all the information on the underground parties of Voras."
"I see," Stanley said. "So she already knows the plan? Is that why she’s not here?"
"Vera? No, she isn’t going to fight. She can’t fight," Nova said. "She’s here for her knowledge and her moderate hacking skills."
"Oh!" Stanley said. "So... it’s just us 4."
"Don’t worry little guy," Fred said. "It was originally going to be just us 3 and we would have still been more than enough to deal with them all."
Stanley gave him a surprised look. "Alright, I’m looking forward to this then," he said and quickly finished his meal.
Once he was done, Nova quickly got off the chair.
"Sol, take a gun," Nova said. "John, you know how to shoot, right?"
"Yes," Stanley said.
"Great, you take two then. Fredy take however you can carry."
"Got it, Boss!" Fred said, walking up to the storage room.
He walked out with a bunch of guns, two of which he tossed to Stanley, and one to Sol. The rest, he kept for himself.
"Should I not get my sword?" Stanley asked.
"No need," Nova said.
"And what about your weapon," he asked her.
"No need," she said once again and turned to the rest. "Let’s go make some name."
They quickly walked out of their lair and made their way. Stanley followed quietly for about 10 minutes before they arrived in some sort of abandoned warehouse.
When they arrived there, Stanley quickly looked around, judging for any sort of defensive artilleries. At the same time, he activated his future sight, checking the future constantly.
A young woman saw the four and quickly ran somewhere screaming. A moment later, a group of people walked out into the warehouse from somewhere, consisting of mostly men but also quite a few women.
They came out with some guns in their hands, the others ready to use their power.
One bald man with a mechanical palm walked forward. "What you all supposed to be?" he asked.
"I am the boss of the Blue Oasis. We’re a newly made gang full of gangsters," She said.
The other people frowned and looked at her with a confused look. "So? What do you want with us Brawlers?" the bald man asked.
"Are you the boss?" Nova asked with a smile.
"I am," the man said.
"Great!" she said. "I want your gang to come under me."
"What?" the man asked with a look that was almost on the edge of mockery. "Did you... did you just say that you wanted us under you?"
"Yes," Nova said with an uncanny smile. "I don’t believe I stuttered."
"Little girl, playing gangsters is not something to do," the man said.
"I know!" Nova said. "That’s why I’m ready to kill you for it."
"Fred."
Fred took the first shot and the bullet went through the boss’s head, killing him right then and there. The other people were shocked and surprised, including Stanley.
Stanley had seen it happen through his future sight, but even then he had been caught off guard when that had happened. How could it be that someone could die so... easily?
Fred shot his gun 3 more times, hitting the guns of two people who were on the verge of raising it to shoot.
"Don’t make any mistakes," Fred said. "Next guy that moves gets a bullet through the head like your boss."
Nobody else dared to move.
Nova smiled and slowly walked forward. "I am your new boss. You will all work under me. If you don’t like it, I allow you to leave right now. I promise my subordinate here won’t shoot you for leaving," she said.
The remaining people were confused and scared. They were members of the gang, but they hadn’t seen much violence. They had rarely ever fought in a life-or-death battle and thus were not fit to be here as well.
A few stepped away, leaving the place with fearful hearts that they were gonna get killed. But the others stayed behind as this was their only source of income and needed this.
"So you all decided to work under me, correct?" Nova asked, forcing the men and women to nod desperately.
"Good," Nova said. "Now, who is the next in charge here?"
