Chapter 208: Rest
Chapter 208: Rest
"How old are you exactly?" Fred asked. "You look young."
"18," Stanley said. "What about you?"
"Shit! I’m 26. No way I’m 6 years older than you," he said. "You might be the youngest of us all then."
"How old is Vera? She looked young," Stanley said.
"She’s like... 30, I think?" Fred said. "She just looks young cause of her genes. She’s from the Jondas, you know. They all look young."
Stanley didn’t say much since he wasn’t sure what that was meant to mean. Were people from Jondas supposed to look young or something?
"What about the other two?" Stanley asked.
"Uhh... Sol is like 35, maybe? Boss is around 22," Fred said. "You really are the youngest of us all.
"I see."
After showing Stanley through the hideout, Fred brought him back to the hall where Sol sat eating something.
"Hey! You guys done with the tour?" Sol asked.
"Yes," Fred said, slumping on a chair opposite Sol. "Where did you find him? Given how quickly you returned from the exchange, I doubt you would have enough time to go look for someone."
Sol grinned a little. "We got lucky," he said. "Go look up today’s event in Trindeath City."
"Huh? Why Trindeath city?" the man asked. "What’s that about?"
Sol simply gestured for him to check.
Curious, Fred opened his phone and searched through the internet. Stanley sat adjacent to Sol at the table and looked at Sol eating. Seeing him eat reminded him of the fact that he hadn’t eaten anything since sundown yesterday.
As a result, he was getting quite hungry.
"You want some?" the man asked. "It’s in the fridge. Heat it and eat some, but I must assure you, it is not that tasty."
"Just order something," Fred said while looking down at his phone.
"If you can wait for a few more hours for the boss to take her nap, then you can eat some tastier meal," Sol said. "Your choice."
Stanley shook his head. "I’ll wait for a while then. I’m not so hungry that I have to eat," he said.
"Is this what you wanted me to check?" Fred asked with a confused look. "This traffic accident?"
"Okay," Fred said. "Outside of Trindeath city, there was an hour-long traffic jam because of the debris left by... left by a single young man’s fight against members of the local gang? What?"
Fred looked up.
Sol gestured to Stanley and Fred looked at him. "You did this?" he asked.
"They came after me to steal my stuff," Stanley said.
"Goddamn! 3 dead, 1 injured. An entire military-grade van was blown apart. This is crazy," Fred said.
"You should have watched him destroy that van. That shit was glorious," Sol said.
"I can imagine," Fred said before quickly looking up. "And don’t curse in front of me. I don’t want you to accidentally use your powers."
"I won’t," Sol said and continued eating.
Fred remarked on the news and sighed. "You found him there?" he asked.
"He needed a way out," Sol said. "Boss wanted someone like him on the team. It was a win-win situation."
"So an actual front liner aside from the boss, huh? That’s quite good," Fred said.
"Yes," Sol said.
"Front liner?" Stanley asked. "Was Nova... err, the boss the only offensive force you guys had?"
"Yes," Sol said. "At least in terms of our powers."
"I see," Stanley said. "Is it bad if I ask what her power is? Or what your power is?"
"Mine?" Fred asked. "Mine is a simple power. I just have good aim."
"Good aim, huh?" Stanley said.
"As for the boss, I don’t know if she will be happy about me talking about her powers, so I won’t," Fred said.
"Okay," Stanley said. "And what about Vera?"
"Vera?" Fred shook his head. "Vera has no powers. She’s unawakened."
Stanley’s eyes narrowed a bit. "She doesn’t have any powers?" he asked.
"That’s not that strange, is it?" Fred chuckled. "It’s not like she was recruited to the gang because of her powers."
"Why was she recruited then?" Stanley asked. "Is she good with computers?"
"She is good with computers, but that’s not the reason," Fred said. "Vera just has an immense knowledge about the underworld of Voras and is thus very useful in that regard."
"Oh!" Stanley made a surprised look.
"You can talk about it later. If you’re not gonna eat, I suggest you go rest for now," Sol said. "You will need it later."
"Need it later? For what?" Stanley asked.
Sol grinned. "We are gonna go say hello to a couple of our close friends," he said with a sinister grin. "You need to be prepared for that."
Stanely frowned a little but said nothing. "Okay," he said and went to grab his guitar case that he had left by the hallway.
"Oh!" he finally remembered. "I forgot my bag."
His clothes were all in a backpack that he had stashed above him on the bus. He had been so focused on the guitar case that he only just remembered that he even had that with him.
There wasn’t anything important on it, just some clothes. But that meant that he couldn’t change right now.
Sighing, Stanley took his guitar case and went to his room.
He sat on the empty bed with only a mattress on it and sighed. He slumped back and started wondering if he had made the right choice or not.
After a second or two, he stopped thinking about it. Nothing good would come of doubting his decisions now. Nova had said that she would help him meet the person that would improve her power and that was what he wanted.
The mission was all that was important.
He checked his sword and the case, along with the piece of tech that was hidden in the case before closing them and setting them aside.
Then, he lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling, waiting to hopefully fall asleep for a nap.
