Chapter 110: Leaving the Cave
Chapter 110: Leaving the Cave
"Finally!" Sheila said as she felt her powers return to her. It had been an hour since they had come to this cave, so it was time to leave.
"I’m going to leave this place now, what will you do?" she asked.
Stanley thought for a moment. "I want to find out who it was that injured my brother so much," he said, his hatred clear in his voice. "Then I want to kill that person and the mayor."
"I don’t know how you will ever find out who it was that harmed your brother," Sheila said. "Do you have someone in this town who can perform clairvoyance? Actually, can’t you do something like that? How you knew we shouldn’t go from the front door, but instead had to come back here?"
Stanley shook his head. "I can only see a second or two into the future," he said. "Anything beyond that is a vague feeling at most, one which I cannot control."
"Oh, well it would help if you knew of someone with clairvoyance powers," Sheila said.
Stanley frowned. "So what do I do now?" he asked.
"That’s up to you to decide," Sheila said. "I for one am going to leave this town as soon as I can. Every minute I stay here increases the danger by just that much."
Stanley couldn’t help but slightly panic when he heard that. "That announcement the mayor made, he must’ve sent people looking for me. With my power, they will put me in the second prison most likely."
"The second prison?" Sheila’s eyes narrowed. "That is where they send people to die," Sheila said.
"What?" Stanley looked at her with a surprised look on her face.
"Yes," Sheila nodded. "I tried to find people who were imprisoned to join my cause because I thought they would be empathetic. But I found out after snooping around here that everyone that has ever been put into prison has been killed."
"But... there were so many people that were sent to prison here, strong ones too," Stanley said. He remembered the person who could cover his body in frost that Stanley had a hard that winning against. How could someone like that die so easily?
"A normal person’s powers hardly ever matter when you’re up against a well-fed Nova," Sheila said. "Anyway, with people searching for you to capture you, it will be dangerous."
"I-I don’t know about that. I did just help them kill multiple crawlers. I can tell them that the mayor killed my brother, and they should believe me," Stanley said.
"What about the hypnosis powers?" Sheila asked. "The mayor obviously doesn’t have a healing power since he has been using medical knowledge and machinery this whole time. He might have a hypnotic ability instead. That’s how he got to my people."
Stanley frowned. "Then... I can’t convince others that I’m innocent?" he asked. "If it is that dangerous, should I leave with you as well?"
"You can, if you want to," Sheila said. "Anyway, we don’t have time to waste. I need to go to my place and gather up my stuff. I can’t leave without that. Then, from there I’ll have to choose whether I leave the veil, or come back here. I’ll take you with me for now."
Stanley nodded.
Sheila then took a deep breath and thought of the amount of time it would take to reach her place. She needed to keep Stanley unseen who could foresee stuff and help her out.
"40 minutes."
Stanley was a little surprised when he saw the girl in front of him vanish into the air. He tried to look around, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, he saw himself get punched in the face.
Having seen the future, he caught her fist as it moved for his head. When he caught her, the girl became visible again.
This time, she had a wide smile on her face.
"Why are you attacking me?" Stanley asked angrily.
"Just checking if you really can see the future or not," she said. "And I must say, you really can. Anyway, we have 20 minutes in total to reach my place. Let’s go."
She grabbed Stanley’s hand and pulled him out of the cave and slowly made their way down around the pond as the waterfall consumed every other sound around them.
They landed out of the pond area and made their way around the mansion, heading towards the gate to the right. A water canal flowed out of this gate where guards waited on either side. There was only a small patch of land one could walk through and the two of them sneaked out exactly through there.
The guards that were waiting outside didn’t even hear them as they made their way outside.
Sheila continued pulling Stanley, but it got awkward for Stanley as she was running too slowly.
"Let me carry you, it will be faster," he said.
"Huh?" Sheila looked back in surprise. However, seeing Stanley’s genuine expression, she didn’t refuse immediately.
"Why would it be faster?" she asked.
"I’m strong, you know," he said. "Just... let me."
He didn’t wait for her approval and swept her off her feet before carrying her in his arms. Sheila nearly shrieked in surprise and had to stop herself from doing so.
"What are you doing?" she whispered as loudly as she could.
"Let’s go," Stanley said and started running.
Sheila was going to continue to argue, but when she felt the speed at which Stanley ran, she was surprised. "How?" she couldn’t help but ask.
Stanley could run like the wind even when it was up the slope. Down the slope, he was like the water flowing through the channels. Nothing stopped him at all.
Perhaps it was because of the rain, or because of the Crawler attacks just an hour ago, the street was mostly empty, allowing the two of them to run through unobstructed.
As the tapping noise of the metal boots hitting the stone ground resounded through the empty street, Sheila could only wonder exactly how Stanley was so strong.
