Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 109: Farm

Chapter 109: Farm

Questions still flooded Stanley’s mind. The girl in front of him was throwing around words and sentences, each of which sounded important, but she never explained it to him.

He knew that there were many things he didn’t know, and for now, he didn’t question it. He only looked at Sheila and waited for her to continue what she was talking about.

She stood up and started pacing back and forth. "We’ve seen what the mayor is hiding, so he will be wary of us the next time around if there is a next time. He knows that their farm has been revealed, so he will try to bury this knowledge quickly."

Stanley looked at her. "Farm?" he asked.

"Huh? Oh yeah. Well, it’s not exactly a farm, but it’s practically one," she said. "Anyway, since we’ve found it out, they will either have to destroy us who hold that knowledge, or destroy the farm instead."

"And unless they can find us, it is most likely going to be the farm," Sheila said. "Dammit, I need to get out of here quickly."

"Where do we go? You heard that announcement. They must be looking for us out there. No place is safe in the town," Stanley said.

"I didn’t mean out of this cave," she said. "I meant out of this town."

"Oh, I see," Stanley said. "How will you do that?"

Sheila thought for a bit and answered. "There are two ways I can go about it."

"First, I can leave through the veil and arrive outside where I’ve parked by car. As long as the car still has a battery, I should be able to get out of here," she said. "Although, it’s been 6 months since I left it out there, and I can’t guarantee that those damn Crawlers haven’t already destroyed it all."

Stanley nodded, not knowing what he was nodding for.

"Second, I can leave through this cave," she said.

Stanley’s eyes perked up. "This cave?" he asked curiously.

"Yes," Sheila said. "This cave was made by someone and it extends well into the distance. If we go through here, we should arrive on the other side of this cliff. From there, we can go to a close-by Eylish town."

Stanley looked deep into the dark cave for a moment before turning back toward Sheila. "Are you going to leave now?" he asked.

"No, not right now," Sheila said. "There is a shield there, barring anyone from going through to the other side. If we want to go through here, we will have to shut down the shield."

"How does one do that?" Stanley asked.

"We either need the eye print of the person who is registered there, or we need to override the system," Sheila said with a frown. "But for that, we will need access to the computer that connects to this shield, and I’m getting an annoying feeling that it is where I am thinking it is."

"Where is that?" Stanley asked.

"The Mayor’s room from before, of course," Sheila said. "We’ll have to go back there somehow."

Stanley fell silent. His brother’s corpse was still there. He needed to get that from there so he could give his brother a proper burial.

Sheila started pacing back and forth even more. "How long has it been? How long have we been here?" she asked.

Stanley shrugged. He didn’t know. "Why do you ask?" he asked.

"I need to go get my stuff from my room. Without it, even if I get out, I’ll have an incredibly difficult time ahead of me," she said. "But I can’t do that until I get my powers back."

"How long will that take?" Stanley asked.

Sheila didn’t answer. "I’ll go check on that shield to see if I missed something," she said and walked away, leaving Stanley alone.

Stanley didn’t like being alone with his thoughts at the moment. He covered his face with his hand and tried his best to not think about anything for now.

Sheila returned after a while, after who knew how long, and sat down beside him again. "It’s gonna take a while it seems," she said.

With so much stuff at stake all at once, having to wait for an hour to pass was tremendously difficult for her.

Raven held a black umbrella in her arm as she walked down the road slowly. She was around the lower 3rd Quadrant and could see people who were actively talking while standing outside buildings even in the rain.

It took her a moment to realize that most of these men were Dulls that had run away from their houses after the sirens were sounded.

’Poor Dulls,’ she thought. Dulls were, in her eyes, the most tragic group of people in the town. They were forced to bear hatred just because they were of no use to her. Had they been any use, they wouldn’t be put as the first line of defense against the Crawlers.

She sighed and shook her head as she walked down the road even more, going past the forest and arriving at the farmland. From here, she could see the veil clearly, as well as a few Defenders that were still there, treating the injured.

As she arrived there, she could see the carnage the recent Crawler attacks had left behind.

Garry noticed her. "Young lady? You should leave this place. The Crawlers might return again," he said. However, he was ignored, so he assumed the girl hadn’t heard him.

He stood up and limped his way toward the girl to tell her. "Young lady—"

A black light flashed and Garry was cut open vertically in three parts as his innards started spilling out before he even fell completely.

The Defenders got serious all of a sudden, but Raven gave them no caution.

"If you have any loved ones or friends you hold dear, I suggest finding them soon," she said as she continued walking away. "You don’t have much time to spend with them."

The Defenders watched in a daze of confusion and horror as the girl simply walked away from them after saying that, moving toward the veil.

Once she reached it, her umbrella disappeared and she walked in, vanishing into the veil.
