Chapter 103: Ava Klaus
Chapter 103: Ava Klaus
"What are you going to do about that?" Kyle asked as he saw Blake carrying the dead body to his car.
Blake explained, "Since your house is surrounded by Gen-sensors, I will inform them that a burgular broke in and I happened to be there. Naturally, I couldn’t show them this man’s face or more suspicion would befall you."
Kyle hummed in understanding. Two of the three brothers were involved in locking the Nightwalkers there in the resort and if not for Kyle, all of those people would have been dead before sunrise.
So, if the PSC found out that the third one came right after Kyle, it will only cause more trouble to surround him.
It was for the best for the moustache guy to disappear.
Blake closed the door and dusted off his coat.
Strangely, not even a droplet of blood was on his shirt. Work experience? Kyle wondered.
Blake returned to the room and first washed his hands.
Kyle offered a towel to the man.
While wiping his hands, Blake looked around and said, "Isn’t it time you change your residence? This is way too small."
Kyle frowned...he feels he had this conversation before.
"It’s just enough." He responded, "But you are right, I will shift my residence, not because it’s small but because of all those sensors."
Blake hummed, "If what you said is true and Layena confirmed to them that the criminal Nightwalker isn’t you then they wouldn’t barricade your new place. So yes, I will transfer you funds, by the end of this week, find a good place and shift there."
"Sometimes, you shouldn’t just send money and do something more for me." Kyle said, arms crossed.
"You want me to carry boxes for you?" Blake suggested.
Kyle rolled his eyes, "Forget about that." He knew how the asshole would have responded if he had said yes.
Blake smirked faintly before saying, "You have got a few days off, right? Be ready early morning five tomorrow."
Kyle hummed in surprise, "But why?"
Blake didn’t respond and just walked out of the house.
....
[Same day]
[Late night, 12.20AM]
Through the gallery of the base, a man with whom everyone was familiar with, walked with long gaits.
Those who came across him gave him a salute and stepped aside to give him space.
The second in command of the base reached his superior’s cabin and gave a firm knock on the door.
Waiting for a couple of seconds, he twisted the knob and entered the office, "Excuse me for disturbance, Commander."
"Timothy...what’s the matter?" Veronica asked, her eyes still going through the response she received from the central base in regards to the red notice she issued against the Delta Team.
The shaved-headed man informed, "I have just received another mail from the central headquarters regarding the officer assigned for the investigation."
"Investigation?" Veronica frowned and looked up, "The incident at the resort?"
The man nodded, "Indeed, Commander. However, it appears the command centre has chosen to pursue the rogue one rather than finding about the anomalous appearance of the rifts."
Veronica scoffed, "Of course."
What took place in that resort was anything but normal.
How could a few criminals could be present exactly at the time when those rifts appeared. And as if they knew that soon Knull Residents would be pouring out that they came prepared with barrier and EMPs.
And what about the sudden summoning of four rifts at once. Veronica couldn’t remember when was the last time she saw something like that happening, so far away from a Bridge.
Around a Bridge Absence always remains potent and dense. So, several rifts appearance is common. But that venue was about two hundred kilometres away from the closest Bridge.
"Commander, the bigger reason of concern is who they have sent for this hunt."
Veronica’s eyes turned cold at that word.
But she understood why Timothy phrases it like that once she saw the profile of the officer on her way to Fairmont.
"Ava...Klaus." she muttered under her breath as she saw a grinning redhead on the screen.
She knew her fairly well. Not only because she served the government as a part of the Alpha team. But also because she and Veronica were from the same batch. They have attended academy during the same year.
’This is troublesome.’ The very fact the central authority has chosen someone from the Alpha team indicates that they have considered the rogue one a matter of great importance.
And that was understandable too. It wasn’t frequent for a potential special-grade Nightwalker to be wandering unregistered.
Resting the terminal on the table, she asked, "Does Layena know about it?"
Timothy’s expression shifted, just subtly but Veronica caught that bitterness in his expression.
"No, ma’am."
Veronica nodded before telling him, "It’s inevitable for Ava to approach Layena when she is here. Our goal should be to keep her within her boundaries." With a low growl, Veronica muttered, "Layena is part of my unit and I will make sure Ava understand that."
Timothy gave a faint nod in approval. He also didn’t like someone triffling with the officers...however, with Ava...things were bound to unfurl chaotically.
After a brief pause, Veronica asked, "How are others recovering?"
"Hannah is now out of danger and recovering well. Within a week she would be back in full health. Ethan and Clara needs a few days. And Amanda...well," his brows twitched when he reached that particular officer.
"She left for her house, right?" Veronica asked an exasperated sigh already seeping through her lips.
Timothy remained silent and that was enough for a response.
Shaking her head, Veronica said, "Inform her father about the whole situation and ask him to keep her indoors for the time being. Seriously, this girl is turning rebellious day after day."
Timothy saluted and soon walked out of the room.
Veronica ensured the door was locked before she took out her phone.
It was past twelve. He must have been tired and already fell asleep, right?
But ..would it hurt trying once?
Hesitant, she dialed his number and attached the phone to her ear.
The call went by for a few seconds.
He wasn’t picking up so she was about to disconnect, not wanting to disturb him.
But then,
{Hey.}
His groggy voice resounded from the other side.
"Sorry...did I wake you up?" Her apology was betrayed by that happy smile curving her lips.
{Nah, I just got up to drink water and saw your call. What’s up? Couldn’t sleep?}
Veronica leaned back in her seat, "Still at work."
There was a pause, most probably, he saw the time before telling her,
{Why are you working so late? Are you hell bent on ruining your health}
She helplessly smiled, "Kyle...a massive incident has taken place. I need to go overtime to handle the aftermath."
He sighed from the other end,
{Can’t they handle things on their own? Tch, now I am feeling guilty for dragging the fight there and not taking it somewhere isolated so you don’t have to deal with the cleanup.}
She lowered her eyes, her head falling and a few silvery strands draping over her eyes.
"Why would you go to such length for me?"
{Want to hear the honest answer?}
She giggled and said, "No...or I won’t be able to sleep even when I go back to my place."
{Hmm. Anyway, did something happen?}
Veronica exhaled another long sigh. Her eyes traveled toward the terminal resting on the table, eyes tracing the particular redhead on the screen.
"Something...is about to happen."
