Chapter 100: A few questions

Chapter 100: A few questions

"Yes, I contacted them." Mathew responded calmly, not even a speck of discomfort or surprise on his face. Forget about regret.

Blake frowned, his gaze holding nothing but disgust. "So you were ready to sell your clan, our secrets, just because you don’t want Kyle to lead our family."

Mathew scoffed. "You know better than me what kind of person he is. Always playing around, never serious about his life."

With a snarl, he added, "If he had lived the way I taught him, then I might have considered it for a moment. But now, he is nothing more than a bum we usually avoid on our path because we know all they can do is waste our time."

Blake couldn’t believe this man held so much venom for his own son.

Yes, Blake didn’t share the same blood as them, but someone you have raised from the age they couldn’t speak, anyone would grow fond of them. However, this man appeared so detached and indifferent towards Kyle that it was staggering.

Taking the file Mathew was reading, Blake snatched it and tossed it aside.

"Blake!" Mathew glared at him.

"I am being unruly as well. Go on, discard me too." He challenged.

Mathew fell silent, but his expression made it clear he was furious.

Blake didn’t care.

He stuffed his hands into his pockets and said, "Let me break that pretense you have built around yourself." He stepped closer and told the man, "Kyle was not living here, he was dying every single day. And you, Astortia Mathew, were the one killing him. Not once and outright, but slowly and painfully."

"You call discipline death? You, Blake?"

Blake shook his head. "We both know humans make mistakes. But Kyle avoided even the smallest ones by going to extreme lengths, just so he could earn your approval. And yet you used every chance you got to torture him, to traumatize him."

Mathew snickered. "Well, he paid the price for not being up to the mark."

"Oh, and were you?" Blake challenged, not a trace of hesitation in his eyes. "The world knows what kind of blunder Astortia Mathew committed. People still blame you for that mistake. That one mistake that tainted our name, ruined our reputation, and made us an easy target for everyone."

"Blake! You are crossing your limits!" Mathew roared, the armrest of the chair breaking under his fury.

"You started it. I only followed your lead," Blake replied calmly. "You crossed a boundary by digging into something you shouldn’t have. And I swear to God, father, if word somehow reaches Kyle’s ears, I will destroy every single fragment of this clan."

Genesis suddenly surged, making Mathew tense and pale in his chair.

Blake leaned closer, staring straight into his eyes as he made his point clear.

"Do not even think of harming my brother again. Or whatever you cling to so desperately. Everything will be burned to ashes."

Leaving those words behind, Blake turned and stepped out of the room.

Closing the door behind him, he exhaled and shook his head.

He had gotten a little emotional, and there was a high chance the Patriarch might do something foolish now.

But Blake was already prepared. It would take some effort, but he knew he could strip him of his position at any time.

He took out his phone, intending to call his secretary, when suddenly, he found several messages and images sent to him.

He frowned and tapped the one most recent ones...and instantly, he froze.

Just what he feared; the resort was attacked. And not just attacked, it was a massacre.

Without a moment of delay, he rushed outside the room. He needed to see Kyle.

....

"Haaa..." Kyle yawned as he stretched his arms and sat up on the bed.

He had finally returned home by eight o’clock. It had been a long, tiring journey. Though, it could have been worse if he hadn’t had such a lively companion by his side.

"Speaking of Amanda..." he muttered, pulling out his phone and unblocking her number.

Since they had made up, it felt unfair to force her to keep using different numbers just to reach him.

Though Amanda had insisted he get a second phone, just in case the PSC decided to track or record his calls.

’Feels like I am living like a spy or something.’ He shook his head and moved to order some food, only for the system to interrupt.

[Host, you have already broken your streak, and now high-caloric food...]

"..."

He had asked for a system, not a fitness coach.

Still, it wasn’t wrong. He would rather make a simple sandwich than rely on the pizza places around his house.

He got up, intending to find something in the refrigerator, when suddenly—

Knock

He turned toward the door.

Kyle sighed. It must be Blake.

They had just spoken, and Kyle had assured him he was fine and already home.

And yet, the guy had still come over to check on him. Such a bothersome fellow.

Shaking his head, he walked over and opened the door slowly—

"Huh?" A kick slammed into his chest.

Kyle was hurled backward.

"Ghuk!" The air was knocked out of him as his back crashed into the wall. His vision swam, breath refusing to return. What kind of strength was that?

Through his blurred sight, he saw a man. Familiar. Similar to the two he had seen at the resort. The same moustache, though the bandana was a different shade.

The man’s fists were clenched, jaw tight, eyes burning red with fury.

He took a slow, heavy step forward, then muttered,

"You made a grave mistake thinking you could get away after killing my brothers."

Kyle snarled and tried to get up, only for the man to lunge forward and grab his collar, yanking him up.

"You fucking asshole!"

Genesis exploded from the man as he slammed Kyle into the wall with a heavy thud.

Kyle clicked his tongue and grabbed his wrist. "I don’t fucking know what you are TALKING ABOUT!" He drove his head forward, smashing it into the man’s. The impact snapped the man’s head back, Kyle’s ears rang too, but his grip didn’t loosen.

This was bad.

The moustached bastard slowly tilted his head forward again, staring at Kyle with pure killing intent.

"I know it was you... I saw you... killing my brothers. I heard their screams, but I couldn’t do anything." His voice trembled with rage. "But not anymore... NOT ANYMORE!"

His hands began to glow faintly as he drew back his fist.

Kyle reacted instantly. He kicked the man’s knee with all his strength, forcing him to stagger. It gave Kyle just enough time to wrench himself free.

But the moment he stepped away, aiming to make a run outside, the rug beneath his feet was yanked away.

Kyle crashed face-first onto the ground.

He rolled immediately, trying to face his attacker, but the man was already too close.

"DIE—khuk!"

Before the man’s joined fists could come crashing down, something struck his forehead.

His entire body jolted.

"Fuck!" Kyle cursed, scrambling back as the man collapsed right where he had been lying.

The knife buried itself even deeper into the man’s skull as his body hit the ground.

Kyle turned to look at the person who just committed a murder...and at the doorstep stood a sharp-eyed man.

Fixing his glasses, Blake muttered, "You have a few questions to answer."
