Chapter 1833: Sincerely Facing Each Other 46

Ye Zi looked at Lin Deng across from her, but her vision gradually became blurry with tears. She could only hear her own voice softly bidding Lin Deng a subtle farewell.

"Lin Deng, don’t slack off just because I can’t keep an eye on you. Remember to take your medicine on time, and don’t stay cooped up at home all day. Go out with your friends more often and try to meet new ones. Also, help me pass on my wishes to He Da and Chen Ning—it seems I won’t be able to attend their wedding, but I wish them a lifetime of happiness and many children. If He Da wants you to be his best man, then go ahead. I won’t be able to be a bridesmaid, so you can be the best man and watch them get married for me. Lin Deng, let me tell you, even if you’re in a wheelchair, you’ll still be the most handsome and dashing best man in the world."

Lin Deng didn’t know what he said or what he heard Ye Zi say during the half-hour visit.

It seemed as if the half-hour had passed in a daze.

Sitting in the car on the way back, Lin Deng’s memory started to recall events from years ago, all of which were scenes from when he first met Ye Zi.

Lin Deng thought that if it hadn’t been for this meeting, he might never have realized just how many clear memories he had of everything about Ye Zi.

When he was so angry that he’d smash things, Ye Zi, even though fuming, would grit her teeth and help him tidy the ward.

When he almost didn’t want to live anymore, Ye Zi humorously told him jokes and read him stories about inspiring people to lift his spirits.

Honestly, whenever Lin Deng recalls the jokes Ye Zi told him, he doesn’t find them funny at all. Yet, Ye Zi would always end up laughing before he did, and when she finally stopped laughing, she’d notice his lack of response and awkwardly switch to another joke she found funny.

For two days, probably realizing that he didn’t care much for jokes, Ye Zi began talking about other people’s silly mishaps to amuse him. Seeing he wasn’t interested, she later started talking about her own embarrassing moments instead.

Although, during those times, Lin Deng never laughed in front of Ye Zi, even when he heard about a bird pooping on her head, every time she left, the image of Ye Zi’s angry yet helpless expression towards the bird would surface in his mind, and eventually, Lin Deng did laugh.

Only, he laughed secretly alone, with no one knowing.

One could say that during his hospital stay, He Da provided him with mental encouragement, but Ye Zi was like the blood in his veins, gradually infiltrating his world.

Lin Deng truly did not know when Ye Zi became so important in his life.

After returning to the hospital, Lin Chan had probably already received the news and was waiting for him in the hospital ward.

As soon as he entered, Lin Chan glanced at him twice and said, "You seem to be not doing so well."

Lin Deng didn’t speak, but instead signaled for Lin Chan’s assistant to help him back to the bed. Once the unrelated people had left the room, Lin Chan finally spoke, "I can only wish that the one confined inside weren’t me. I can only hate my own uselessness, making Ye Zi suffer a burden she shouldn’t have to bear because of me."
