Star Instructor, Master Baek

Chapter 486: You Expect Me to Believe That?

Chapter 486: You Expect Me to Believe That?

"Mr. Baek!"

Baek Suryong furrowed his brow as Hyonwon Kang sprinted toward him with a face that screamed desperation. Just what kind of trivial ambush is this punk planning at the crack of dawn today?

THUD!

Hyonwon Kang dropped to his knees and slammed his forehead on the floor, prostrating himself. "I'm so sorry!" he apologized.

Baek Suryong tilted his head at his student's incomprehensible behavior. "...Are you feeling sick or something?"

Is this kid bending his knees in preparation to spring up and attack?

Unfortunately, Hyonwon Kang was sincere.

"Despite being the Club Union President, I didn't know there were so many problems with the clubs. I'm sorry!"

"...Hm?" Baek Suryong chuckled hollowly at the unexpected moment of introspection. It seemed that Hyonwon Kang had found out about the club audit activities he had carried out the previous day.

Come to think of it, it would be weirder if Hyonwon Kang hadn't heard about it after Tang Soso caused such a commotion. Nevertheless, learning that so many clubs were problematic couldn't have felt good."Who did you hear that from?"

"...Dokgo Jun," Hyonwon Kang lifted his head from the floor and answered sullenly.

Last night, Dokgo Jun visited him to apologize and explain the circumstances surrounding the disturbance at the Club Union building, with Tang Soso beside him, looking grumpy.

"I heard there were so many guys who embezzled club support funds behind the Union's back... If I had known, I would never have let them get away with it!"

Baek Suryong smirked and messed up his remorseful student's hair. "Wonkang, how could you have known about something those brats tried to hide behind layers of intricate lies and complex math?"

"...Hm?" Baek Suryong chuckled hollowly at the unexpected moment of introspection. It seemed that Hyonwon Kang had found out about the club audit activities he had carried out the previous day.

Hyonwon Kang pouted. "That's..."

Baek Suryong was inwardly amused. He found the sight of Hyonwon Kang blaming himself fascinating. Even the Club Union President couldn't be knowledgeable about the circumstances of every club, and Tang Soso had only gathered information about her target's weaknesses for her own selfish purposes.

Besides, Hyonwon Kang had hastily joined the election and become the Club Union President after Peng Sahyuk transferred to the Heavenly Martial Academy. His grip on the organization was bound to be shaky.

"Weren't you just a figurehead Club Union President anyway?" he added. "Don't worry. All the other kids know the SRS is the real driving force behind the Club Union."

Hyonwon Kang jumped up in a rage. "The SRS helps with Club Union operations! I attend every single one of the Club Union meetings that Yoo Yiran holds and voice my opinion!"

"That's exactly what people call a figurehead. What actual work have you accomplished to hold your head up so high?"

SMACK! WHACK! THWACK!

"W-We faithfully wrote down our activities in the club activity report..."

Baek Suryong clicked his tongue and looked down at his foolish student. "You know, this actually works out better for you."

"Huh? What does?" Hyonwon Kang blinked in confusion.

Baek Suryong grinned evilly. "You don't have many classes today, right? Let's go investigate the remaining clubs together."

While the blame for the corrupted club culture over the past few years didn't lie with Hyonwon Kang, allowing the Club Union President to sit back and watch wasn't ideal. On the other hand, if Hyonwon Kang took action now... He wouldn't be as helpful as Tang Soso, but he had his own unique uses.

Hyonwon Kang immediately picked up on his teacher's malice. "...Are we going to crush them all?"

"...I said investigate."

Baek Suryong surveyed the cluttered clubroom, well stocked with an assortment of food ingredients and medicinal herbs, in disbelief.

"Yes! Just leave it to me!"

Baek Suryong could barely suppress his glee. Just by seeing how Hyonwon Kang's eyes rolled back, it was clear what kind of 'assistance' he would provide.

Hyonwon Kang arched his brow until the whites of his eyes showed, and veins popped on his neck. "Do you guys really have nothing to hide? If I shake you down and even one little lie comes out, today will be your funeral day."

The Employment Club President shrank his neck and squeaked, "There's a very, very minor discrepancy. When we went to the job fair at Red Cloud Trading Company two months ago, we actually stayed for two nights instead of one..."

Baek Suryong's mouth twitched as he marveled at Hyonwon Kang's incredible 'persuasion' ability, unrivaled even compared to the Yama Keep bandits. The punk was so good at his role that he actually had to step in before the Employment Club President peed his pants.

"Wonkang, take it easy," he advised. "Dust accumulates on your body as you go about your daily life. You can't do this job if you nitpick on every little trivial detail."

"Understood, Hyung!"

The teacher and student, who were somehow hitting it off perfectly, sparked a new fear in the Club Union in a different sense than yesterday.

WHISPER WHISPER...

"The Club Union President has become a lackey of power..."

"Did he just call Mr. Baek 'Hyung'? Is he some neighborhood thug?"

"He really is a gangster!"

"I knew it. Regardless of his martial arts talent, that jerk was always a thug..."

Hyonwon Kang's reputation as a reformed delinquent was eroding in real time. Thanks to that, though, Baek Suryong was able to comfortably conduct the club audit.

"Well, there's nothing really noteworthy left."

Since they had thoroughly investigated the problematic clubs the previous day, today was proceeding rather smoothly.

He flipped through the stack of papers to see which other clubs were left.

The Medicinal Cooking Research Society Club Activity Report

"Guhahaha! Welcome to the Society!" Geo Sangwoong welcomed them happily, wearing an apron.

Baek Suryong paused. This was the club he had created to clean up the Five Young Azure Dragons' terrible reputations.

"Oh shit, I totally forgot about this... Hey Wonkang, did you kids do anything that could be a problem?"

"Huh? How should I know?"

"...What the hell? Aren't you the Club President?"

"Aren't you the Club Advisor?!"

The teacher-student pair bickered noisily on their way to the Medicinal Cooking Research Society's clubroom. Although Baek Suryong was the club's advisor, he hadn't actually visited the clubroom in months because he was swamped with work.

Fortunately, the Medicinal Cooking Research Society wasn't as inactive as he had feared.

A sweet smell wafted through the clubroom. Evidently, he had been cooking until just a moment ago.

"Senior! This is really tasty!" Ya Suhyeok exclaimed as he tore into grilled meat on one side of the clubroom.

Next to him, Silver Tiger was chomping on sweet potatoes. Yeo Min was elegantly snacking on what looked like traditional sweets while reading a book peacefully, but waved her hand in greeting when she saw Baek Suryong and Hyonwon Kang.
