Chapter 223 223: Introductions.
"No. You barely know anywhere around this city, I doubt you'd know the place even if I told you," Su Ping replied casually, his gaze fixed ahead.
The Wolf King's brows furrowed at the remark.
' Of course you'd say that... You never miss the opportunity to look down on me, even when it's obvious that all I want to do Is help.' her heart felt as if it was tangled in thorny vines every time they were together, and no matter how much she tried to get rid of there torns, he would always find a way to make more grow around it.
"Sigh..." She took a deep breath to steady her heart.
"Fear, greed, desperation, ambition, all sorts of emotions, flowing constantly without end." She said as if describing the air safe breathed.
Su Ping glanced at her, a flicker of interest in his otherwise impassive eyes. "You can smell all that?"
"Can you not?" she countered, her lips curling in what might have been the ghost of a smile. "To my kind, emotions have textures, intentions have flavors. Right now, this street tastes of anxious anticipation. The people know something is shifting in the city's foundations, even if they cannot name it."
" And I'm sure you're the main reason for that."
" And what makes you say that?" He paused and asked.
" Oh? Finally giving me some attention are we?"
Su Pings eyes lids twitched. " I'm beginning to wonder if it was a bad idea." He said, making her giggle.
" I apologise if I said anything that sounded offensive, all I'm trying to say is that it's quite intriguing, knowing that you're acting as a form of hope to these creatures..."
' Even if your end goal might be completely different.' she kept the latter part to herself. Her mind couldn't help recalling her memories of when she'd been in her territory, to her, every day back then was peaceful but her smile faltered when a memory of a little bird flying through the sky and leaving a trail of strange dust in it's wake.
" Hope?" He muttered beneath his breath.
' me?' Su Ping thought to himself that such a notion wasn't what he'd expect to be called by another.
After that little chat, the duo continued on their way, only this time, They walked in silence for several more blocks, moving from street to street until.
After some time, the both of them arrived at Su Ping's decided destination, the very bar where he had gotten Ranger, the necromancer under his control. The establishment looked far better than the surrounding buildings, perhaps slightly more intact. Which surprised Su Ping momentarily.
' Looks like the both of them have been quite busy.' Su Ping thought to himself as he approached.
"Master, you're here?" Whispered the bar woman to herself.
Vivian left the counter and came to him the instant she laid eyes on him. Her movement was fluid, efficient, betraying none of the surprise she might have felt at his unexpected arrival.
In the weeks since she had pledged herself to Su Ping, Vivian had transformed from a simple cheap prostitute into something more poised, like a woman who's presence would be noticed on entering a room.
Su Ping believed that she always had the potential to become someone like this but didn't have the financial stability to.
In terms of beauty, if Hella was considered a stunning vixen like Victoria, the Vivian could be described as a beautiful courtesan.
Seeing her reminded Su Ping of a certain woman with white fox ears he used to know.
Ranger, who had been silently keeping the peace in a corner as always, approached right after her.
The necromancer himself didn't come off as gruff or grim like he once did but like a gentleman.
Nevertheless, he still looked intimidating, after all, he was a necromancer beneath everything else, his dark eyes missing nothing.
Since his defeat and subsequent subjugation, he had adopted a permanent posture of wary deference, like a reformed attack dog trained to always act in it's masters best wishes.
"Master, how many we be of service?" Ranger asked in a hushed tone.
After being his subordinate till this point, she understood that her master wasn't one to hug the spotlight, which meant he preferred being low-key, and that was why she spoke in whispers.
Finished speaking, Vivian's eyes shifted to the Wolf King, taking in the formidable woman with a professional appraisal that missed nothing. Since th3 other party had been seen walking along side their master.
The powerful sleeper build, alert posture, and while hidden, her aura still emitted a dangerous air to it.
Vivian offered a slight, polite nod, which the Wolf King returned with a tilt of her head.
"Yes, but first, let me introduce her," Su Ping said, gesturing at the Wolf King beside him. Both Vivian and Ranger looked curious even though they hadn't said a word; in the hierarchy Su Ping was building, it was worth something to get to know a fellow subordinate.
"You may address her as she sees fit," Su Ping said simply, yet both Vivian and Ranger were taken aback.
' Address as "SHE" saw fit?' Wasn't that the same as saying that she was clearly of a higher standing than them in his eyes.
A beat of silence followed as both Vivian and Ranger processed such new knowledge.
"An honor," Ranger said, his voice even softer than before. The dynamic in the room had shifted palpably; the introduction of such a figure changed the ideas the both of them had prior.
Vivian offered a deeper bow this time. "If it's not too much, May I offer you refreshment?"
The Wolf King shook her head. "Not necessary. but thanks for the thought."
Su Ping's lips twitched at how polite she was being. " I brought her here today because she'll be working alongside you today, Ranger," Su Ping revealed.
"Of course, I have no qualms. Your wish has always been my command." Ranger's response was immediate. But then he hesitated, his eyes flickering between Su Ping and the Wolf King. "But, pray tell, what exactly do you mean when you say she'll be working with me?"
