Chapter 730  I am going to try something

Damon frowned. The poison did not have the effect he had hoped. It seemed like they had a really talented alchemist on their side. They were up to date with his poison, at least what he had used back then to destroy the cities. However, he had already changed it up since then.

Even though the group did not drop dead instantly, they had visibly become sluggish and weak. But surprisingly, even that did not bother them. "He is here! Everyone, be careful!" Mo Cheng shouted. The entire group took out vials of greenish liquid and drank it without delay.

"Oh… you even made other preparations?" Damon raised a brow, very impressed. But he was not planning to stand simply while the enemy took their time to drink antidotes and recover. By the time they had taken out the vials, blood swords manifested silently, dozens of them, forming in midair.

Each blade hummed with lethal intent, edges vibrating as compressed blood essence screamed to be released. Before anyone could make a move or even recover from the poisoned sluggish state, the many swords swung down at the same time.

The air was torn apart by shrill, slicing screams as the blades carved downward from every angle imaginable. Barriers shattered like glass struck by hammers. Blood sprayed across the red sands in violent arcs.

A man barely managed to raise his weapon before three swords pierced straight through his chest, pinning him to the ground. There was no room to coordinate. No chance to counterattack. The poison had robbed them of that critical half-second needed to react.

Damon didn't move. He stood there calmly as the slaughter unfolded, hands relaxed at his sides, eyes cold and focused. Blood splashed against the ground and then rose. Crimson ribbons peeled themselves off the sand, flowing backward through the air, returning to him in elegant spirals. The blood sank into his body effortlessly.

In less than a blink, it was over. Bodies lay strewn across the red sands, broken and lifeless. Elites who would have been untouchable legends in the outside world were reduced to corpses before they could even finish drinking their antidotes.

Mo Cheng collapsed to one knee, coughing violently, eyes wide with disbelief. The vial slipped from his fingers and shattered uselessly on the ground. From the looks of it, he survived by transferring his damage to an undead.

More undead started appearing, but it was useless. Damon stepped forward. "In the end," he said calmly, "preparation only matters if you're fast enough to use it." He looked down at the fallen elites, then at Mo Cheng, finishing what was left of him. "And you weren't."

Everything was different in his timeline, starting with him. Mo Cheng was a force to be reckoned with in his last life, but now he had died without even putting up a fight.

Damon did not pay attention to the guy anymore and quickly shifted his focus to Necrogod. Knowing the kid's attitude, he couldn't help but tease him a little, "Dude, what happened? I thought you were all that, and now you are on your ass?"

Unexpectedly, Necrogod remained listless. "Watch out for the golden storms… They are not normal…" He weakly muttered. "If you underestimate them, you will end up just like me."

Damon chuckled. "Come on, dude. Don't be a sore loser. If not this event, then there will be something else."

Necrogod laughed bitterly. "You don't get it, do you? This is it for me. There is nothing else. I am already dead, you jackass."

Damon's face changed. "What do you mean?"

Necrogod laughed without bothering to explain.

"Can't you just hold on until the event finishes, and then we will all probably be teleported back to the game world."

"…"

"How about if I give you the next memory shard I come across?"

"..."

"Hmmm… here, take this…" Damon handed over the partly formed memory orb to Necrogod, but it was useless. The very next second, the orb flew back to him on its own.

"Can't you see?" Necrogod laughed again. "I am already dead. It's only a matter of time before the next storm appears and sucks me in. There is no way I am going to clear it in my current condition. Just leave me be and focus on building your memory orb. You need to do it before you come across a golden storm. Maybe if you complete your orb before then, you will not suffer any backlash even if you get into a golden one."

Damon listened patiently, even as his mind tried to come up with some solution. Sure, this kid wasn't on his best friend's list. He was a selfish prick and had a shitty attitude, but there was no way he was going to simply let him die here. He had already invested too much in their relationship for something like that to happen.

However, he was also not sure what he could do at this point. He could always protect him from the others who were in this same world, but when it came to the memory storms, he had a feeling that even if he cast a barrier or something, they would still be taken into different instances of the memory.

He doubted if there was a party mode for the memory world. It was probably an individual encounter. Either way, he couldn't afford to wait it out and test. It might already be late by then.

Also, if Necrogod died in the memory world or back here in this world, then he had a feeling that the death would be permanent. It was not like the game world, where they could simply respawn. Damon looked at the dead bodies on the ground, slowly rotting away. Deviant King Mo Cheng was still dead, and his body was still here. To think that such a powerful man could simply die and become nothing in the real world made it painfully aware that not everything was a game. Not everything gave a second chance. There were no exceptions to death.

Damon racked his brain for all sorts of solutions. He even tried using the superior-grade healing potions Alzara had given him, but nothing worked. Something fundamental seemed to have been robbed from the kid. It was as if all his stats were sucked dry by the memory storm.

At this point, Damon could only think of one thing. "Hey." He crouched next to the kid. "I am going to try something, but it might not work. Want to give it a go anyway?"

Necrogod's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"

Damon moved closer to him, and Necrogod's eyes widened further. "What stupid idea are you thinking of, you bast-" Before he could finish his sentence, Damon already leaned and sank his fangs into the small, frail neck.

Normally, Damon would have preferred to do this part with no contact, especially when it was a guy on the other end, but this time he was trying something very tricky, so he decided to do it the old-fashioned way.

As soon as his fangs touched the neck, blood pooled in his mouth, and he could feel the rich blood essence mingle with his own blood essence. He immediately tried to forge a connection between the two blood essences to transfer some of the special distilled bloodline fragments still circulating in his body, fresh from when he absorbed all the blood essence from the dead guys.

However, this was easier said than done. His blood simply absorbed the other one and the connection was broken in an instant. "Fuck." Damon cursed. He retreived his fangs and looked at Necrogod who had now become even weaker.

"What the fuck… you bastard… why…" He weakly mumbled and looked like he was just about to faint.

Damon did not have much time. He knew he had already failed a lot when trying to do this but he was so close to getting it to work. Maybe just maybe… he could make it work this time.

Giving it one last go, Damon hurriedly focused inward and gathered all of the extracted bloodline fragments circulating in his blood. Using his entire will power and mental power, he forcefully pulled as many fragments as he could handle and in one swift motion, he took it all out.

A blood spear appeared in front of Damon which he grabbed by his hand and thrusted downward.
